The dark comeback
Chapter 1

It was five years after the confrontation with Zeromus; Cecil and Rosa were happily raising a daughter; Cecil was also growing quite a handsome beard and moustache. Cid was making a business of airships; called it "public transportation". They knew nothing of what happenned to Cain.
Nobody knew.
After defeating Zeromus, Cain went to Myisidia, where he purchased supplies, and then made a solo expedition to mt. Ordeals. He was never heard from again. Although he was heard ABOUT.
Prince Edward wrote beutiful ballads of the Dragoon who beat the Empress of Air, and helped destroy Zeromus the Grand Evil. He was still mourning Anna and Tellah, but was no more so wimpish about it. Still, he wasn't the only bachelor monarch on the planet.
Edge was head over heels in love. In Rydia, of course, and ever since the oh-so-famous battle, he didn't spare a look for any other girl he met. His retainer was getting worried about this: Edge was getting more, and more stressed every day - he couldn't find Rydia anywhere.
Rydia in fact, was hiding from him in the underworld. She loved him, but wouldn't confess it to herself. She lived in the Underworld for these five years, asking herself each day: "Should I?". She decided on being sincere to herself now, and wanted to marry Edge. She sent a messege to Cid, to send her an airship.
Upon her arrival in Eblana, she was shocked - the castle was ravaged, the city was still burning and corpses were lying all over. Rydia decided to leave for Baron, but when she came back to where the airship had stationed, she found it gone, and the crew slaughtered.
Then she heard The noise. The cracking of lightning, coming back from the castle. She recognized the bolts as the Raijin ninjutsu technique.
"Bloody hell!" she said, noticing that the blazes of combat were getting closer. Seconds later a human body has bounced up, right to her feet.
"Dying at the feet of a beutiful girl..." said the body "...what better end could there be?"
"EDGE!" yelled Rydia "NO!!!" but she was momentarily forced to re-focus her attention. A pack of some weird, flightless, gray dragons was running towards her. She was still calm about it.
"ODIN!" she called, in a distinguished voice.
Odin materialised. The old king of Baron. After five years he still heeded her calls. He was suprised, because he didn't know the nature of his foes, yet he slashed up most of them, left two heavily wounded and one bruised before he disappeared. Those three though, were dismayed by the sudden demise of their companions and ran off.
Now Rydia had another problem - Edge's breath was weakening.
"Edge, don't you dare die on me!... Shit!... I need help...ASHURA...!!!!"
...
The kingdom of Fabul. A beutiful morning. The lookout monk is enjoying his duty with a brisk excersise. He notices something that terrifies him and takes a breath to warn the others. He fails to yell - he dies of radical blood loss after something falls out of the sky, pierces through him, and through the lookout tower for that matter. The other monks of Fabul were still alarmed by the crashing of the tower.
Yang, now king of Fabul was the most alarmed one - as the most experienced of monks in the country, except the former king, he felt tension in the air, and was determined not to be caught off-guard. He dashed out of the throne room calling his up all of his Royal Guard - an elite of Fabul monks.
Before they decided to do anything though, the castle was overrun by about two dozen flying, human sized, silver dragons of an unknown breed. The monks were highly superior in number and highly skilled, but they made a mistake of underestimating the power of the dragons.
It was a dreadful battle - both sides were decimated, but the dragons were only stopped by Yang and the royal Guard. The few surviving dragons ran away from the monks. The warriors of the Royal Guard raced after them. Yang halted to examine the dragons' corpses. He didn't know why, but the beasts seemed familiar to him.
Then he heard the screams of his Royal Guard. Death screams and sounds of fierce combat. Then the screams silenced and there were only slow, metallic footsteps, coming closer to the throne room.
Yang calmly stood up, took up his guard and started his build-up. Then, an armoured man came into the hall.
"You!" said Yang.
"Yes, it's me." answered the warrior "I wiped out Eblana and Fabul. You are the only thing that stands between me and the assault on Baron."
"But why?"
"Guess." said the man and started.
...
Cecil was having a hard time as the Grand Judge, one of the functions he had to take up as king of Baron - he was judge at the trial of a man who killed five local troublemakers in a brawl at the inn.
"They assaulted me!" claimed the man "And all at once, too!"
"If that would be true," said the prosecutor "they would have killed you."
"Wait." said Cecil "It is possible to defeat even more than five opponnents at the same time. It's a case of prowess."
"So?"
"So, as I believe that this man is innocent, I challenge him to a duel, in order to test his fighting skill."
"Your majesty!" said the man "I cannot except the challenge - I wish not to harm you."
"Silence! Bring me a sword, give this man a weapon of his choice and make some room for us!"
Moments later they stood against each other: Cecil with a sword of one of the guards (he did not wish to pulverize this man with the power of the Ragnarok) and the man armed with a spear.
They took up their guard. Cecil charged and made a broad slash with his sword. The man dodged by turning to his left and swung a spining double attack at the level of Cecil's head. Cecil ducked and and rammed the man. The man revolved, threw Cecil off himself and aimed a destructive blow at Cecil, who in turn put all his strenght into blocking it. Both weapons shattered.
"Enough." said Cecil "You are indeed innocent."
"Thank you, your majesty. If I may introduce myself: me name be Connor ."
"Nice to meet you sir Connor. Give this man his belongings back!"
After Connor got his equipment back, donned his armor and hung his own spear over the shoulders, he looked splendid. And somehow, familiar to Cecil.
Cecil invited him to the palace for lunch, to make sure he didn't have any hard feelings.
Connor met Rosa and Cid, and all three were glad of making the acquaintance.
During the lunch the lookout guard's yell alarmed everybody.
Cecil, Rosa, Cid and Connor appeared at the walls of the castle to see a herd of...
"Damoryuu's!" said Connor spotting the flightless beasts "This will be grave."
"You know these beasts?!" asked Cecil
"Yes, even though they're supposed to be extinct. Tell everybody to be prepared for a hard battle!"
"Bloody hell!" said Cid "Not another war!"
...
Picture smoking ruins of Fabul castle.
Picture a monk, carrying two corpses, all washed in blood, coming out of the smoke.
Yang put the corpses on the ground.
One of them is that of the former king, the other belongs to his wife.
Yang, screaming with anger punches a tremendous hole in the ground and puts the bodies in there.
He covered the grave and after a brief prayer screams with rage again.
He leaves, headed west.

The Dark Comeback
Chapter 2

"We've got to get to Baron, quickly!" said Rydia.
"You're telling me?" asked Edge "Those dragons will be a challenge even for Baron's military!"
"You got any ideas HOW to kill them more efficiently?"
"Dunno. I've got a new technique, Fuujin, which I'm dying to try out!"
"Okay, that's something! Step on it!"
...
Edward van Muir, king of Damcyan, was entertaining his court with a song. He had a guest - a warrior of Eblana, whom Edge has recommended as bodyguard.
There was a rumbling noise outside the palace and a few minutes after an injured guard stepped in.
"Your majesty! We have an extremely dangerous intruder in town. He bashed down the gate, beats down anybody who tries to stop him and is headed towards the palace!"
"What?!?" Edward stood up "Who can this be?!?"
"Your majesty..." said the Eblana warrior "...may I take care of this?"
"Err...as you wish, then go sir...er...what was your name again?"
"Cyan, sire. Cyan of the Three Blades."
Cyan stood up and left.
Edward was troubled by this.
*Who could be so powerful to bash down the Gate of Damcyan...* he thought for a while *...Wait! I know the only man able to do this!*
"I have to stop Cyan! He's no match for the man!"
He ran out of the chamber.
...
"We're closing in on Baron, sir."
"Good. I hope we're not too late."
"Too late for what?"
"For saving this world."
...
Cecil NEVER did the mistake of underestimating his enemy. He was the kind that always OVERestimated them. It was also so this time, when Baron was under siege from, as Connor called them, Damoryuu's. Especially because Connor said to be prepared for a hard battle.
That was quite right - There were LOTS of Damoryuu's and dying Baron warriors.
Baron's airforce was firing fiercely at the damoryuus. Cecil was slashing through the dragons with the Ragnarok, Rosa was backing up a group of soldiers with her magic, Cid was guarding the civilian airships in the hanger with his mechanic crew - any dragon that came in there was either eagerly leaving, or killed. Connor Charged into the dragons, drilling them with his spear, and nobody saw him since. The battle was quite even.
Until the flying dragons attacked. They dived like silver bolts out of the sky, damaging the airships and decimating their crew. They flew up high again.
"Damn!" Cecil said, pushing through the turrets of Baron castle "They're coming in for another turn!"
On another turret stood Connor, fighting a pack of damoryuus. Or should I say, slaying them.
"There's something really BIG coming in quick behind them!" he yelled. Cecil noticed it too.
"Yeah, it's another dragon! You think it's their boss?"
He didn't get the chance to hear the answer. As the beast was passing by the dragons, something jumped off it, and landed on one of the silver dragons. The big, black dragon descended and attacked the Damoryuus with exploding breath. Cecil easily recognized that attack.
"It's Bahamut!" he yelled "So that must mean..."
Before he could finish there was a fierce battlecry from the flying pack. Then there was an articulate voice.
"FUUJIN!" someone yelled and the dragons' bodies were twisted apart by wind, after wich Edge landed softly on the ground. He was immediately attacked by a swarm of Damoryuus.
He took out the Masamune and Murasame out of their hilts.
...
Edward bolted through the crowd gathered around Damcyan's marketplace and saw two men, his bodyguard, Cyan of Eblana, and a warrior who was obviously a monk of Fabul, though covered in dirt and blood, standing before each other.
On the ground layed two broken hand-claws and two shatterred katana blades. Cyan was holding his third blade, the infamous Black Strato.
"You are indeed a powerful warrior." said the monk "But I must ask you to get out of my way before I lose control of myself."
"So you may slay the king?" asked Cyan sarcastically "Never will I allow that. Thou shall not pass!"
Just as soon as he finished uttering these words he charged at the monk with a destructive slash. The monk, in turn, has shown outstanding skill - he thrust ONE solid and precise punch, right i the middle of Cyan's stomach, wich stopped Cyan before he could land his own attack.
Then, something happenned to the monk; madness entered his eyes and he started throwing rapid punches at Cyan, inflicting radical damage, and even shattering his armor. Cyan dropped the sword; he was now merely a dummy to punch at. The monk blew him to the ground and aimed a devastating vertical punch at him.
He never landed it though. He was paralyzed by tones of a harp. He instantly fell to sleep. Edward walked up to him. Cyan was standing up.
"What could have happnned to you, Yang?" asked Edward.
"You know this individual, my liege?" asked Cyan, getting up slowly.
"Yes, he's Yang, king of Fabul. He was obviously in a big hurry to see me."
"Or to kill you. He nearly killed me."
"That's the weird part - he went berserk all of a sudden."
"Which means?"
"I do not know yet."
...
The forces of Baron were gaining the overhand in the battle against the dragons, thanks to Rydia's and Edge's help. The last pack of monsters was determined to win - no soldiers could approach them and they were rampaging in the corridors of the palace.
Cecil and Connor chased after them and run into them cowering behind an armored man with a spear in hand. The man slowly turned face to them.
"WHAT?!?" said Cecil "YOU?!?"
"What are you doing here?!? Who ARE you?!?" asked Connor.
"My name..." said the man "Is... Kain Highwind...and...I'm...here...to...kill...Cecil Harvey!" he jumped high to the ceiling.
"Sorry, but I can't allow that." said Connor...
...and jumped himself.
...
Cid was thrashing one last Damoryuu that made the mistake of walking into the hanger. He saw a meteorite crashing into the ground less than half a mile of Baron.
...
"Sir, we have hit the surface."
"Good. Let's fly to Baron - they'll need our help!"
"You think so? It's just Damoryuus that are attacking them."
"Idiot! Let's go!"

To be continued.

The dark comeback
Chapter 3

The court of Damcyan.
"These bastards are destroying every military power on this planet!" said Yang.
"Military power?" asked Edward.
"They destroyedd Eblana and Fabul. And they're probably assaulting Baron as we speak!"
"What can Damcyan do? We're no military power."
"I need two things from you, Edward. First your, PERSONAL help."
"MY help?!?"
"Hope you didn't forget how to fight?"
"Of course not.(Who knocked you out, eh?) And I'll help. But what's the second thing?"
"Transport."
"Transport?"
"You see... they got military powers; but what about the only MAGICAL power in the world?"
"I see what you mean. We can go off within minutes."
"Good."
...
Kain jumped.
Connor jumped as well.
They collided in the air and went straight down, never refraining from exchanging blows of their Lances.
"Connor...a Dragoon?!?" said Cecil to himself.
Kain was obviously preoccupied with fighting Connor, as an equal. They kept riccochetting of each other and jumping again.
Cecil decided to help Connor, alas, the dragons attacked him.
Foolish beasts.
He had no mercy for them, as they haven't had it for the people of Baron - within minutes he slaughtered them all with his Ragnarok Sword.
The dragoons were still fighting in the same way.
Amazed at their endurance he charged to the spot where, as he thought, Kain should land.
His trajectory was drastically corrected when he was hit by a Flare spell of considerable magnitude. He was hurled against a wall with the blast and he felt it would be lesser only to a Flare cast by Zeromus himself. Nevertheless - he did not loosen the grip on his sword, he even tightened it. He looked to where the Flare was cast from.
There stood a tall, thin man, with a pale face and short withe hair. He was dressed in black-and-blue robes and his eyes seemed to be able to see right through a man's soul. Kain and Connor refrained from combat when they noticed him.
"Zande!" said Kain "You sure didn't waste time."
"I only noticed that you were busy, so I decided to help." answered Zande.
"Zande?!?" exclaimed Cecil "The Dark Sage?!? Aren't you supposed to be dead for centuries?"
"For my master it is not a problem."
"That, I know." said Connor.
"You'll have to excuse me, sir Cecil." said Zande in a noble voice "But I'm going to kill you now."
He aimed his right hand at Cecil.
...
The royal Damcyan airship - "Anna"
"We'll reach Mysidia within three quarters of an hour!" informed the captain.
"Good." said Yang "It's good you have this airship. And a beauty it is."
"Yes,..." said Edward "One of Cid's finest works."
"I have a question...why didn't this bodyguard of yours come with us? We could use his help."
"He seems not to be very comfortable with mechanical devices... what do you think we will find in Mysidia?"
"A siege."
...
Part of the wall of Baron castle melted as butter in an oven, and two giant blasts of fire came through it, flying at Zande.
Zande in turn, defended with an Ice3 spell. He was now turned towards the hole in the wall.
A few seconds later, two young men slowly stepped in through it.
They were both wearing blue suits of armor. Both of them had grey hair and green eyes. Without a word they shot two blasts of Bolt3 at Zande. He countered with his own Bolt3's, broke through his enemies' spells and killed them.
"Idiots!" said Zande.
"Idiots indeed!" said a voice from behind the hole. It was deep and crawling with power. It also seemed familiar to Cecil and Kain.
"BoltFire!" said the voice and a beam of lightning and fire shot from the hole directly at Zande.
"Null-magic field!" yelled Zande. When the spells collided, they disintegrated.
"That...voice..." said Kain.
"Can...it...be...?" asked Cecil hopefully.
"Indeed!" said the voice, it's owner stepping in through the hole in the wall. The man was tall with broad shoulders. Or at least they seemed broad in the dark armor the man was wearing. It was the same black-and-blue color as Zande's robe and a dark cape was flapping behind him. His face was covered in shadow under his powerful, horned helmet, still you could see glowing green eyes in the darkness of his face.
"So much for the two best Lunarian battlemages." said Golbeze sarcastically "Now YOU die."
"Congratulations upon your optimism, friend." answered Zande and rapidly shot a Flare spell at Golbeze.
Golbeze reappeared on Zande's left and ripped him to shreds with a Bolt3 spell.
"Sh**!" said Kain "This round goes to you guys, but we'll be back!"
And he disappeared.
Rydia, Rosa, Edge and Cid came in through the hole in the wall. Rosa dashed to Cecil and cast Cure4 on him.
"Thanks Rosa." said Cecil.
"Bloody functional hole!" said Cid "We ought to put a door here."
Everybody came to Cecil.
"I hate to interrupt the pleasentries..." said Golbeze "But if we don't hurry, Mysidia will be annihilated."
"WHAT?!?" said Rosa.
"Golbeze?!? You're here?!?" said Edge.
"Mysidia?!? Why?!?" asked Rydia.
"Errr..." said Cecil.
"I'LL EXPLAIN ON THE WAY!" exclaimed Golbeze "WE'VE GOT TO HURRY!"
"Okay!" said Cid "Everybody follow me! To the *Holy Flare*"
They ran off.
...
"We have reached Mysidia, sir!" said the captain of the 'Anna'
"Grand!" said Edward "Let's take a look."
Yang and Edward walked to the railing. They were shocked.
"Those beast are crunching them!" said Yang.
"Even despite the immense fire-power of the Mysidians!" said Edward.
"We have to act rapidly!" said Yang, and tossed Edward off the ship.
Then he jumped off himself.
...
"Zemus' son?!?" asked Cecil.
"Yes, his name is Romus." answered Golbeze "He seems to want revenge."
"What about that guy, Zande?" asked Edge.
"Romus ressurrected some legendary warriors of Darkness - among those Zande."
"Warriors?!?"
"Yes you have to be prepared for immensly powerful human beings, walking the path of evil or vengance, and the madman Lunarians that followed Romus."
"And the Damoryuus?" asked Connor "Where did he get those?"
"He bred them. We had some eggs up on the Moon. That fool brought them to life..."
"Yeah...what's up with the Moon?"
"It's coming back to orbit. We'll need all the help we can get."
"I see," said Cecil "FuSoYa couldn't come in the meteor..."
"No." answered Golbeze "FuSoYa is dead."

The dark comeback
Chapter 4

Yang landed and put Edward on the ground.
"That was rather rash..." said Edward.
"And it is merely the beginning." said Yang, pointing out, that they were being surrounded by dragons "You think you can deal with these beasts alone?"
"The legendary Damoryuu's? Of course! I'm dying to see how they react to the songs of pain."
Edward gripped the harp and placed his fingers on the strings.
"Okay, I'll leave you now." said Yang and charged into the mass of Damoryuu's.
"So,..." said Edward "...now I'm alone with you guys..."
He moved his fingers.
...
Cecil was shocked.
"FuSoYa...dead?" he muttered.
"Killed." added Golbeze calmly.
"By whom?!?" asked Rosa.
"Romus. Noone else would have the power, or the nerve to kill him."
"Son of a bitch..." said Edge.
"He will pay..." said Cecil "I will slash him to bits..."
"Congrats upon your optimism." said Golbeze "You'd probably be able to do it, IF you got through his army and defenses on mt. Ordeals..."
"What do you mean?" asked Rydia.
"Let's put it this way: he made the mountain fit its name; Now, it's a lair of Damoryuus and other beasts that you would NEVER want to face."
"I have a score to settle with that smartass youngster..." said Connor "...Kain, or whatever his name is."
"What?!?" asked Rosa "Why that?"
"He is disgracing the ranks of the Dragoons with his deeds. This I cannot put down."
"Hey you guys!" yelled Cid "Look! It's Mysidia on the horizon!"
...
Edward was calmly playing a nocturne-like tune on his harp. The Damoryuus, both flying males and flightless (yet more powerful) females couldn't come nearer than twenty-one feet of him, or they died. Within this distance, a group of children, low-class black mages and white mages gathered, seeking protection from the Damoryuus.
Yang was going through the mass of dragons like FIRE3 through butter. He was tearing them apart with every ounce of anger he had. He wanted revenge for his family and friends, and he couldn't get enough.
...
The defenders of Myisdia where also very efficient. Squadrons of Black Wizards supported by small groups of White Mages where giving the Damoryuus a hard time.
Among these defenders was a very small group.
In fact it consisted of merely two.
A young man, looking like he's around 15-17 years of age, dressed in black robes, and a girl dressed in white. They looked very similiar to each other. Almost identical.
The Myisdian Twins.
"Suck Quake, ya muthafuckin' dragons!" yelled Palom putting his hand to the ground. The ground shook and swallowed a pack of Damoryuu's.
"Brother..." said Porom "You really should watch your toungue..." a Damoryuu arose behind her "...HOLY!..." and died "...even in battle."
"Bullshit, Sis'! You're probably the only person in existence...THIRD FIRE!..." Damoryuus melted "...minding their toungue in battle."
"You are wrong,..." Damoryuus breathed Flare "...WALL!..." they didn't understand what killed them "...but this is clearly not the place for an argument."
"Right. There's..." Palom started.
"...a bloody shit-load of them?" Porom finished and winked.
"HOLY FLARE!" they called together.
Damoryuu genocide.
...
The Damoryuus couldn't beat Yang, but they were fast enough to flee him.
"Come back here you cowardly beasts!" Yang yelled in a distinguished voice "Is none of you going to challenge me?!?"
"I will challenge you..." said a grim, vengeful voice.
"What?!?"
"Round two!"
...
The tight defense around Edward was working fine.
Until a Flare-breath attack of one the Damoryuus hit Edward.
He silenced and fell to the ground.
The Damoryuus jumped at the helpless mages.
"THIRD BOLT!" said a firm voice. The dragons were fried and the mages unharmed.
"You must heal him quickly!" said the man "And I must see to the battle."
...
Palom and Porom where obviously in control of the situation. No Damoryuu could defend itself if noticed by one of the twins. If noticed by both, it died on the spot.
"You have done nicely so far..." said a dark robed man with dark green eyes, and a cold, petrifying voice "...but now you die."
"As if!" said Palom and raised his hand to cast a spell.
"Black Ultima!" cast the man.
"Supra-defender!" cast Porom. The spells collided. Porom's defence spell was crashed instantly. Palom didn't make it to casting his own spell. The twins were sent to the ground.
"You poor fools..." said the man "...you will never be powerful enough to stand up to me..." he pointed his palm towards them.
"Sis'...you still there...?" asked Palom thelepatically.
"Y..yes." answered Porom in her mind "What do you intend to do...?"
"Let's...put...it...all...in...a...Meteo Blast..."
"Do..you...really...think...we...can...do...it...?"
"Together...yes!" They concentrated.
In the meantime (about 5 seconds) the dark robed man was aiming a spell at them and putting it into full concentration.
"This will be your finest hour..." he said "...the hour you die! Mwahahaha!!!!"
"May...we...get...a last...request...?" asked Porom politely.
"What would that be?"
"Suck on this!" said Palom in full voice.
"Huh?!?"
"METEO BLAST!!!" they screamed in the greatest magic-magnitude they could achieve. A comet with seven feet radius shot at the man.
"POWER THRUST!!!" the man yelled. The spells smashed together. The Meteo Blast was victorious in this confrontation.
But the dark mage was more powerful than he seemed. He rebound the Blast into the sky with his bare hands.
"You shrimps!" he growled "Now I will make suffer for this!"
He raised his hand. A Flare materialised in it. It was immediately hit by another Flare spell and dissolved.
"You will do nothing to my student nor his sister!" said the wizard who saved the mages around Edward. He was wearing only leather shoes, a pair of trousers and a dark cape. His hair was flapping and blue, he had pointy ears, and his eyes were black and red as a city fire at midnight.
"And you want to stop ME?!? ME - the Great Romus; Leader of the Lunarians?!?"
"I don't give a damn about who you are, and why you are. I'm just going to make you into a bloody pulp."
"Who are you, you insolent freak? Who thinks himself powerful enough to beat me?"
"My name is Janus. Janus the Black Master." said Janus "And I don't intend to defeat you, but to just, plain KILL you."
"Congratulations upon your optimism, sir Janus. Let us begin!"
And instantly two beams of pure, destructive power, shot out by the two mages, collided.
The beams disappeared. The opponnents charged at each other, Flare in hand.
The Flares met. There was a blinding explosion, wich left a lot of smoke.
Janus stood in the smoke, waiting for Romus. Then Romus was there.
Grasping Janus' head.
"Say your prayers, or whatever..." he said.
"As my student says...Whoops..." said Janus.
"HOLY!!!"
The spell hit Romus, and sent him flying a few meters.
Porom fell to the ground, exhausted.
"POROM!?!" exclaimed Janus. The smoke was diffusing. "Why you! You're gonna pay for this!"
Janus aimed a ThunderFlare at Romus.
"Goodbye." said Romus.
A dragoon fell, fistfirst, onto Janus. They both collapsed.
The ThunderFlare went flying into the air.
"Very well, Kain." said Romus, getting up.
"I wouldn't congraulate me so fast, Master." said Kain, getting off the unconscious Janus "I was tossed."
"By whom?!?"
"By me." said Yang, approaching them.
"To bad for you..." said Romus, and aimed a ThunderFlare at Yang.
"Ooh...another one of those...I see my aim was a little off the first time, but this will be the perfect marker."
"Marker for what?" asked Kain.
"Marker for them." answered Yang pointing to an airship closing in rapidly on Mysidia.
Romus looked at the airship, and was terrified.
"Golbeze!...And another powerful Lunarian! Along with some powerful humans and..."
"And?!?" said Kain.
"This is not a good place to stay." said Romus very quickly "Now, we retreat." he grabbed Kain and they disappeared.
The 'Holy Flare' landed.

The Dark Comeback
Chapter 5

"MAY I KNOW WHAT IS HAPPENNING HERE?!?" exclaimed the Elder of Myisidia "We're being assaulted by an army of Damoryuus, led by some weirdo spellcasters and, of all the people, Kain Highwind the Dragoon. As for our rescuers, we have the regular hero-filled airship along with a berserking monk, a fighting bard and Golbeze himself. I don't know what to think anymore!"
'I think, this stress is decreasing his diplomatic approach...' thought Edge.
"To make the long story short," said Cecil "Zemus' son, Romus, mobilized all this force to take revenge for his father on me, my brother, and every being on this planet for that matter."
"As far as I know, they have set their base of operations on mt. Ordeals." said Golbeze.
"And you intend to stay here for the night, before you attack?" asked Porom.
"Yes. And we wanted to ask you two for help." said Rosa.
"You got my firepower as soon as I'm back on my feet." said Palom, stumbling into the room "That moth*****************************************************************it is going to fu**********ell pay for this."
"Wow..." said Porom "That was vulgar, even for your standards brother. Since someone has to keep you alive, I'm going to go too."
"Indeed..." said the Elder.
"Thank you both,..." said Cecil "It's all setlled the.." he was interrupted.
A white mage in freshly burned robes ran down to them from the Tower of Prayers.
"HELP!" she cried "There's a Demon on top of the Tower!".
"How can this be?!?" said the Elder "The Tower has a protective seal to..."
"It REVERSED the seal and expanded it!" said the white mage "So that nobody can leave, or enter! We're done for!" and she fainted.
"Reina!" exclaimed Palom, run up to her and picked her up.
"Huh?" Edge asked Porom.
"To make the long story short," said Porom "My brother fell in love with my mentoree..."
"Oh..." said Edqe with an aww-isn't-that-sweet kind of face.
"...yesterday." finished Porom.
"Oh...!" said Edge with a cunning-satisfied smile.
"I think there's no time for love-stories..." said Golbeze "Let's go up there, kill the beast and break the gods-damn seal."
"There's not much room up there." said Cecil "I suggest only five of us go. If it comes to the worst, five will still be able to retreat. I'll go in the first group."
"Good Idea, brother. I'm going with you."
"My abilities may prove useful." said Yang "Consider me in."
"You're going to need some variety in your magic." said Rydia "I'll go!"
"And I'm not letting you out of my sight!" said Edge "I'm your fifth man."
...
"They have discovered her, Sir Romus..."
"No worry, Kain...they haven't the power to defeat her..."
"What about the..."
"They have been put out of commission. Most of them for good."
"For the sake of our plan, Sir, I hope you're right..."
...
Cecil, Golbeze, Yang, Rydia and Edge climbed to the top of the Tower of Prayers. What they saw them suprised them to the limit.
"Nothing!" said Edge "There's nothing here..." he slashed with Masamune and Murasame at the figure that arouse behind him. He did no damage.
There wasn't any damage to be done - the figure was immaterial. To state it short:
It was a ghost.
"A gods-damn ghost!" said Edge "Is this what we're supposed to fight?!?"
"I don't think so Edge..." said Cecil "Look..."
They were surrounded by ghosts. Or, better said, the chamber was full of ghosts wandering around with no real purpose.
"Weird..." said Rydia "I sense two tremendous powers in here..."
"You're not enitirely right..." said Golbeze "It's a single power. Although it's unusual for bipolar magical energy to reach such magnitude..."
"Bipolar?"
"It's hard to explain...To make this simpler...try to imagine a spell that would be simultaneously Black and White..."
"It's paradox for such power to even exist!" said Yang.
"And even more paradox to be so great..." said Golbeze "...Who is it?!?"
"Well..." said a towering female voice "...it's me."
A large cloud of black, green, blue, red, yellow and white smoke appeared before them and took the shape of a woman.
"Ohmigods..." gasped Edge.
"Who are you?!?" asked Rydia angrily.
"I am the ultimate Evil...sister of Chaos...the Dark Cloud!"
"Who would have guessed that?" asked Yang sarcastically.
"Drop the sarcasm, Yang." said Cecil.
"Why are you here?" Golbeze asked the Cloud.
"Some weirdo reessurrected me, and said that, if I would exterminate you, he'd give me the rule of these realms. With exception of his mountain."
"And you agreed..."
"Yes... and as soon as the deal is done, I'll vaporize this world!"
"What?!?" everybody exclaimed.
"I LOVE destruction!!!!" the Cloud yelled and spit FlareWave at them.
"Never!" said Edge "Fuujin!!!!" The wind and flames collided.
"This is the chance!" said Cecil attacking the Dark Cloud with a mighty slash.
The Sword went through her as through air.
Gobeze shot BoltFire at the Cloud. It didn't harm her the least.
"HAHAHA!" laughed the Cloud "No HUMAN weapon or spell can ever harm me!"
"Human, huh?" said Rydia "Then prepare for a scorching nightmare!" she closed her eyes.
"What?" said the Cloud suprised.
"BAHAMUT! I Summon you to aid me!" yelled Rydia. Flames of summonning whirled around her...
...and nothing happenned. Rydia wide opened her eyes with terror.
"What?!?" Edge run up to Rydia "What happenned to you?!? Why isn't your magic working?!?" he asked.
"It isn't me..." Rydia said "Bahamut is wounded and tired, so he cannot heed my calls."
"And the others?!?" asked Golbeze "Leviathan and Asura? The Mist Dragon? Shiva? Ramuh? Ifrit? Titan? Anybody?!?"
"Mist is under a powerful sleep spell...The King and Queen are in the same state Bahamut is...Shiva, Titan, Ramuh and Ifrit are dead..."
"Ooh...how sad..." said the Dark Cloud "You're left with no support? Well what're you going to do before I oblitterate you?"
"I've got an idea!" said Golbeze "This is a long shot, but it might just work...Rydia!"
"What is it?"
"Cast your Ifrit summon through me!"
"But..."
"No questions! Do it!"
"Trust him..." said Cecil "He knows what he's doing."
"Okay..." said Rydia. She aimed her hands at Golbeze and started concentrating on the spell. Flames of summonning appeared around her and Golbeze. Golbeze raised his hands.
"This is a time..." he spoke "...when many beings - humans, fiends and other creuters come back from the mists of death and time... Beings most people would perfer to keep away. Let's see what you will manage against one of those, Dark Cloud."
"Give it your best shot human!" said the Dark Cloud.
"I am not entirely human." said Golbeze.
"IFRIT! Come, and torch my enemies!" yelled Rydia. Golbeze disappeared inside the flames of summonning.
A column of fire struck the ground next to where Golbeze was standing.
The flames of summonning disappeared, revealing Golbeze. The column of fire also disappeared.
It revealed a tall, thin, humanoid creature, veiled in a blazing red cloak.
"It worked!" said Golbeze joyfully.
The creature turned to him.
"RUBICANTE!" yelled Edge "HOW?!?"
"Mas...Golbeze?!?" exclaimed Rubicante "What are you...What AM I DOING HERE?!? I thought I was dead!"
"Let's say you're hired for the good guys now..." said Golbeze "We've got a job for you..." he pointed to the Dark Cloud. Rubicante look at the Dark Cloud. He was suprised.
"Dark Cloud?!?" he asked.
"Rubicante..." said The Dark Cloud.
"Er...you..." started Cecil.
"Yes..." said Rubicante calmly "I know her. And I refuse to fight her."
"You mean..." said Golbeze "...even you can't..."
"No...I mean you can beat her yourselves...She seldomly uses her own power, on account it would make her vulverable...but in a place as dead as this..." he was interrupted.
"SHUT UP!" yelled the Dark Cloud and shot FlareWave at Rubicante. Rubicante dodged.
"Too late..." said Rubicante before disappearing in a mass of flames.
"Wow..." said Rydia.

The dark comeback
Chapter 6

"Now, It's your turn!" said the Dark Cloud, unleashing a black thunderbolt.
"Not really..." said Cecil, blocking it with the Ragnarok.
"A place that's dead..." mutterred Golbeze "A place that's dead..."
He was interrupted by FlareWave from the Dark Cloud. He reappeared a few steps from her, aiming his hand at her.
"If human spells won't work," he said "Let's try a Lunarian spell. Luna-Glammer!" a giant ray of light blasted from his hand at her. She, in turn, remanifested herself behind him and knocked him to the ground with a fireball.
"A dead place!" Yang said "I understand now...And I will stop her!"
"You will?" asked Rydia hopefully.
"Yes. Just hold her off for a moment!"
The Dark Cloud aimed a Smoke Claw at Yang.
"No way!" said Edge "You're not getting him that easily...FUUJIN!" the blades of wind pushed the Cloud away from Yang. Yang didn't notice anything more.
Yang was praying. He was offerring a prayer for the departed ones.
The Cloud twisted in anguish.
She shot FlareWave at him.
"Rydia! Edge!" yelled Golbeze "Ice it! Blizzard of Three!" Three streams of Ice energy shot out of his hands and flew towards the Flares
"Third Ice!" called Rydia. Columns of Ice fell on the Flares. Edge supported that whith his Suiton technique. The FlareWave extinguished instantly.
"Noooooooooo!" cried the Cloud. Yang opened his eyes.
"And thou shalt rest in peace!" he concluded. Then something extraordinary happenned.
Yang appeared in several places at once. He appeared next to every ghost in the chamber and threw a single punch at them. That did something. The gosts disappeared one by one.
The Dark Cloud screamed in anguish and shrinked. She shrinked until she was human size. She was also not a cloud anymore. She was humanlike, except, that her skin was pitch black.
"Now Cecil!" called Yang "She's corporeal now! Now's the chance!"
Cecil didn't have to be told twice. Rapidly, he ran up to the Cloud and struck her with the Ragnarok before she could do anything.
She was dead now.
...
"They have defeated her, my master..."
"She underestimated them. A mistake that I won't do."
"What do we do now master? What is our next move?"
"Simple. We prepare ourselves. I will fortify the keep."
"And what shall I do?"
"You go to the shadowlands and fetch the last three of my Dark Warriors!"
"You wish not to summon more reinforcements?"
"No. I will have enough time for that if I need it. Go!"
"Yes, my lord!"
...
The 'Holy Flare' was flying towards mt. Ordeals. On board were Cecil, Golbeze, Rosa, Rydia Edge, Yang, Connor and the Twins. Connor was driving.
Rydia awoke from her meditation.
"And, how's the situation in the Phantom World?" asked Edge anxiously.
"Leviathan and Asura are back on their legs again. The Mist Dragon has awakened. Bahamut is on the Moon, so he needs regenerate a little longer. He will be back in form in a few hours...and..."
"And what?" asked Rosa.
"The burial of Ifrit and the others is done..."
"Oh..." sighed Edge. So did everybody else. Including Golbeze.
"Don't worry." said Yang "We will avenge their deaths."
"Not only theirs." said Edge "The people of Eblana..."
"Baron..." said Cecil.
"Fabul..." said Yang.
"Mysidia..." said Porom. Palom grunted.
"And the Moon." finished Golbeze.
"Oh, right..." said Cecil "Aren't we going to wait for help from the moon?"
"There is no time for that." answered Golbeze.
"Hey! Mt. Ordeals is in sight!" called Connor.
"OH SHIT!" said Edge when he saw the mountain. On top of it stood a looming, dark keep. There was a stream of lava flowing down from the mountain in a spiral pattern and sinking into the underground at one spot.
"If we are to get to the keep without getting scorched," said Cecil "we'll have to follow the spiral."
"Maybe that's what Romus wants us to do..." said Palom.
"Maybe..." said Golbeze "But we've no choice...unless, you have a way of resisting magic boosted lava heat?"
"No I don't..."
"Hey! Brace yourselves!" yelled Connor "We're landing!"
...
They walked to the mountain. To the spot where they could start climbing.
They came to the feet of the mountain.
"Okay!" said Cecil "Now comes the hard part. Let's go!"
"Oh no you won't..." said a man coming down the mountain. He was wearing black armor, had grey eyes and short white hair. He had a sword on his back.
"And who are you?" asked Golbeze "Another one of Romus' puppets?"
"You may think what you will...My name is Leonheart. And the only reason I came here is to test my power against the worlds only Paladin..."
"Why?" asked Connor "Why do you want to fight, of all the people, a Paladin?"
"You used to be a Dark Knight... Just like I AM!" said Leonheart and pulled out his dark sword.
"A Dark Knight?!?" exclaimed Connor. Golbeze and Cecil were somewhat suprised.
Cecil pulled out the Ragnarok.
Leonheart unleashed a Dark Wave more powerful than anybody has seen on the planet in the past few centuries.
Cecil blocked it with the Ragnarok. Light clashed with Darkness. Cecil bent back under the overflowing Dark Power. The Dark Wave stopped.
Leonheart jumped at Cecil with a ferocious slash. He was stopped by an overflow of magical attacks.
"Romus was right..." he said "I won't be able to beat you all at once. But you will be done for soon..." and he disappeared.
Cecil put the Ragnarok back in its hilt.
"He's more powerful than I ever was as a Dark Knight..." he said "I don't know if we will have power enough to face him in any lesser number..."
Golbeze walked up to Cecil.
"You posses such a power brother." he said "The Power of Light combined with your Lunarian heritage...YOU ARE able to defeat him one-on-one. And I feel that moment will be upon us soon..."
"Brrr..." shivered Edge "You scare me when you talk like that..."
"You could think, that that's the whole point..." said Connor.
"It's not." said Golbeze "Besides, let's not lose any more time!"
And they went up.
...
Cid and Edward were aboard the 'Anna', flying towards Baron.
"What're we supposed to do now?" asked Cid.
"Quite simple. We go back to Baron, and then we split up." answered Edward.
"To do what?"
"You go to the Dwarf Castle, and find out how's the situation in the underworld."
"And you?"
"I'll rally up any survivors from the other kingdoms and towns, and gather them all in Baron."
"And if the Dwarf Kingdom has also been raided, I'm supposed to do the same..."
"Exactly. We must hope for the best and gather any reinforcements we can get."
"In case Cecil and the others fail."
"Yes. Or in case that any of Romus' minions would try to attack us while they're away."
"HEY CAPTAIN!" yelled Cid "PUNCH IT UP A FEW NOTCHES! WE'RE IN A HURRY HERE!"
The 'Anna' accellerated.
...
Cecil, Connor, Edge and Yang were piercing through a flock of Damoryuus, while Rosa, Rydia Golbeze, Palom and Porom were following behind, serving as rear guard.
The Damoryuus suddenly ran away.
"What does this mean?" asked Connor.
"Dunno..." said Edge "But it may have to do something to do with this." he pointed to a cave mouth, above the level of wich the way was blocked by a high and thick wall of brambles.
"We're going to go through the cave?" asked Porom.
They went up to the opening. Vines shot out of it, followed by three purple flowers with sharp teeth.
"Trilium!" yelled Connor and Golbeze silmutaneously.
"What?!?" asked Rosa suprised.
"No time for questions!" exclaimed Golbeze "Rydia! Palom! Your fire magic! Fast!"
Rydia and Palom instantly shot Fire3 at the Trilium. They were supported with Golbeze's Firestorm spell. The Trilium was instantly incenarated.
They all went into the cave.

The Dark Comeback
Chapter 7

"They have entred the cavern, Sire..."
"Very good...Leonheart, Kain! Go to your posts..."
"Now the fun starts..."
"Indeed Kain. Good luck Master..."
"Enoguh pleasantries. Go!"
"..."
"I know you're there..."
"Indeed master. What are we two to do?"
"Find your counterparts and dispose of them..."
"It will be done..."
...
Connor and Golbeze were leading the party through the cavern.
They came into a dark chamber.
"This is going to be a problem..." said Golbeze "There are three tunnels going out from here. All in the more-or-less same direction."
"IT IS NOT A PROBLEM AT ALL, MY DEAR VICTIMS..." echoed Romus' voice "THROUGH THE FIRST DOOR ONLY A PALADIN CAN PASS. THROUGH THE SECOND DRAGOONS, NINJA AND MONKS. AND THE FIFTH IS DESIGNED TO LET HUMAN MAGES AND SUMMONNERS PASS. EACH TUNNEL LEADS TO ME."
"But you're too cowardly to face ME..." said Golbeze "Or is there another reason for not making a door for me?"
"THERE IS. I WANT TO FACE YOU ALONE. NOW." And Golbeze disappeared in a flash of light.
Cecil gasped.
"Don't worry..." said Rosa "He's just been teleported."
"I understand..." said Cecil "I'm more worried that we have to go separate ways. That's what worries me."
"Don't get down about that, buddy." said Edge.
"Yeah, man!" said Palom "You can friggin beat anything and anybody on this planet!"
"I'm worried about you guys, not myself..."
"Hey, no need to be..." said Connor "We're in superior numbers. And also almost as invincible as you are."
"Let us not waste any more time." said Yang "I had to bury my family because of that man. Now I want to bury him."
"Aren't we the vengful one..." said Edge "But you're right. Let's get that guy before he gets Golbeze."
And they went. Cecil through the first door, Edge, Yang and Connor through the second, and Palom, Porom, Rydia and Rosa through the third.
...
"What is this game you're playing, Romus?" asked Golbeze angrily.
"It's a game, Golbeze." answered Romus "Simple as that."
"So I'll end it. Flare!"
Romus countered with his own Flare.
Lots of smoke.
...
Edge, Yang and Connor were running down the corridor.
Suddenly, out of nowwhere, something, or rather someone, fell at Connor.
Connor threw the man of himself. It was Kain.
"I challenge you to a duel, old man!" he said.
"I except." answered Connor "And you two don't even THINK of helping me. Go!"
Edge and Yang refrained from attacking Kain and ran deeper into the tunnel.
A moment after they disappeared, Connor and Kain were standing on a vast field.
"How?" said Connor.
"Can't have a Dragoon duel in a place where they can't Jump, can you?"
"And you call yourself a Dragoon too..." grunted Connor.
"Why not? I am not only a Dragoon. I am THE MOST POWERFUL DRAGOON..."
"In your mind. You have disgraced the Dragoons...Kain, what has become of you?"
"Who are you to lecture me?"
"I am Connor Highwind."
He jumped.
...
Yang and Edge were runnind through the tunnel.
"Isn't it weird?" asked Edge.
"Isn't what weird?" asked Yang.
"You'd think there'd be some serious clanking noises and so on. Y'know two Dragoons fighting..."
"No. That isn't weird. This is a pretty spacious tunnel, but for two Dragoons there's not much room. They're probably circling each other waiting for the right moment or..."
Edge suddenly stopped and grabbed Yang by the arm. Yang fell on his back.
"Are you trying to kill me?!?" he said. Edge silently pointed to three shurikens, sticking in the floor on the spot where Yang would have been if Edge wouldn't have stopped him.
Without making a sound Edge rapidly pulled out his blades and deflected the next fourty shurikens that flew in on them. Yang got up.
"Enough. Come and fight, whoever you are. Leave the shadows!" he ordered.
"I'll fight you...but it will be hard for me to leave the shadows...I am the Shadow!" said a ninja in a traditional black ninja-overall coming into sight.
"Shadow!" said Edge "I should have known Romus would bring you back!"
"Who is he, Edge?" asked Yang.
"Clyde Arrowny...also known as Shadow. A cut-throat, rapist, arsonist, torturer..."
"...and all that for the right price..." said Shadow.
"My father had this guy executed when I was four...It was the only execution in Eblana I have ever witnessed."
"Yes. But thanks to sir Romus I am back in business. My first job, is you - Edge!"
"With pleasure." said Edge.
"I hate to bring this to you..." said Yang "But you're outnumbered two to one."
"NAWWW..." echoed Romus' voice again "THAT WOULDN'T BE FAIR. LUCKILLY, IF YOU AIM ANY ATTACK AT SHADOW, YOU WILL BE TELEPORTED AWAY A FEW STEPS. LET EVERYBODY HAVE THEIR FUN. TA-TA..."
"I don't belive him, I'll help you!" said Yang.
"I can deal with him alone! You go on! I'll catch up with you!"
"Will you now...?" asked Shadow, hurling shurikens at Edge.
Edge deflected them with a smooth swing of the Murasame.
"Go ahead. Make my day." he said putting the blades in their hilts.
"With pleasure..." said Shadow.
"Yang...leave." ordered Edge.
"O-kay..." said Yang, and left.
The ninjas charged.
"FUUJIN!" yelled Edge.
"DOUTON!" yelled Shadow.
...
Cecil walked into a long, lit chamber. On it's other end was another dark tunnel.
As Cecil got to the middle of the chamber a figure holding a glowing, green blade came out of the tunnel.
"I was waiting for you...mister Harvey." said Leonheart.
Cecil pulled out the Ragnarok.
"Never doubted you would." he said.
"So you probably anticipated THIS too." said Leonheart "DARK WAVE!"
Cecil swung the Ragnarok. This time he did not try to block the Dark Wave. He charged and pierced through it. When Leonheart saw that Cecil was getting closer, and not taking any damage for that matter, he stopped the Dark Wave.
"What are you going to do now, Leonheart?" asked Cecil with a satisfied voice.
"Simple..." said Leonheart cooly "Outfight you."
"Then lay on, Leonheart."
And they charged.
...
Yang kept on running.
He stopped.
Before him stood a man, more than seven feet tall, with brown hair and black eyes, wearing a monks suit.
"I am the Master Black Belt..." he said "Romus..."
"...Brought you back to life. I know." said Yang impatiently "But if my Fabulian history is right, you weren't evil. Not that it was noted."
"No, you're right. But when you're dead it's hard to find a challenge. You understand."
"I think so..." Yang took up his guard "Fight."
"Thank you sir." the Master also took up his guard "Let us begin."
He charged. Before Yang could do anything, he slung him onto a wall with a backhand punch. He sent him flying the other way with a roundhouse kick. He picked him up.
Yang revolved around his arm and executed twisting typhoon kick in the air.
"Not bad..." said the Master.
"But not good enough..." said Yang.
...
The ground was torn. The cavern walls were slashed up. The ceiling was flattenned.
Edge and Shadow were still fighting.
They jumped at each other. Edge executed a vertical slash with the Masamune. Shadow dodged to the side and thrusted Edge with his falchion.
"You lose." said Edge and started spinning his blades in his hands "FUUJIN!"
...
Golbeze and Romus were still firing magic at one another.
"I grow tired of this!" said Golbeze "Dejon!"
He reappeared next to Romus.
"Null-magic field!" casted Romus.
"Screw magic." said Golbeze, and punched Romus to the ground.
He kicked him. He picked him up and held him up high with one hand, holding the other in his face.
"Greet Hell from me." he said "BoltFire!"
...
Yang was at his last. He was down. The Master was standing a few steps away from him.
"This was a fine battle..." the Master said "...now, I have to kill you. Sorry, it's in my deal."
There was the sharp sound of metal drilling through stone. The Master looked up.
He found himslef having a stalactite in his face.
"I figured you could use some help..." said Edge, walking up to Yang "And you can probably use this, too." he gave Yang a bottle of X-Potion.
Yang drank half, and poured the other half on his wounds. He was immedietaly better.
"Thank you Edge..." he said "This means you beat Shadow?"
"Which of his limbs do you have in mind?" Edge grinned "Whatever, let's go, before we miss the fireworks!"
They ran.
...
Golbeze was about to walk away when he heard a familiar voice.
"Oh, Golbeze..." said the voice "History repeats itself..."
Golbeze turned around. Before him floated a grey, flaming-hairy, humanoid figure with a vicious face.
"I'm back...and I will kill you all!"
"Zeromus!" utterred Golbeze.
...
"Are you done?" asked Leonheart, after defending against Cecil's onslaught of blows.
"Yeah, your turn..." Cecil grinned.
"Well, good-bye then." said Leonheart.
He rapidly jumped up to Cecil, struck the Ragnarok from his hands and started slashing wildly. He cut away his armlets, gauntlets and chest plate. He cut long wounds on his arms, chest and face, cutting through his beard and moustache.
Cecil was down and covered in blood.
"Well, this is it." said Leonheart. He jumped away from Cecil a bit. He swung his blade.
"Witness the ominous power of the Zero Blade! DARK WAVE!"
Cecil saw the Dark Wave fly up right to his face.

The Dark Comeback
Chapter 8

"GODS DAMN MAZE!" yelled Palom "We're going and going and we can't get anywhere!"
"Calm down, brother..." said Porom "Or suggest something instead of bragging."
"Alright..." said Palom "I have a suggestion..."
"Well?" asked Rosa.
"I f we can't find our way out of here..."
"Then?" asked Rydia.
"Then let's make one."
"Huh?" asked Porom "I don't understand..."
"It's simple, sis..."
...
Yang and Edge ran into the grand hall.
"Oh my gods!" said Yang "What IS that thing?!?"
"Zeromus." said Edge "I'd recognize that face everywhere!"
"Zeromus?!? I thought he was destroyed!"
"I wil never die for good..." said Zeromus "I have already told you that. As long as evil lurks in the hearts of men."
"Edge...Yang..." said Golbeze, getting up from the floor behind Zeromus "I'd REALLY appreciate it, if you two would help me!"
"Shut up." said Zeromus hitting him with a (yet another) Flare "As for you two...you will share his fate."
"Never!" screamed Yang, charging at Zeromus with a devastating blow.
Zeromus blocked the attack, knee-kicked him in the stomach, struck him to the ground with a spinning punch and kicked him away.
"GODS!" said Edge "You've got to be kidding me!"
"I am not kidding you..." said Zeromus, walking towards Edge "I am going to kill you all."
"Oh really?"
"Yes, unless you can do anything about it. But I doubt that."
"I always can do THIS!" said Edge, using a smokebomb. The room was immediately filled with smoke.
"You can't run from me!" said Zeromus' voice.
"But I CAN stall." said Edge's voice.
"Not really...the BIG BANG will hit you all, wherever you... akhh!"
"How do you like the feeling of the Masamune on your throat, Zeromus?"
"How DARE YOU! I shall...akhhh!"
"You REALLY should keep quiet, if you're not gonna let me slice you up."
"Oh really? MAELSTROM! Khhhhaaaaaa!"
"Did that hurt you enough? Or do you waaaaooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!"
Edge was hurled with the Maelstrom and all the smoke was blown away.
"Wind, eh?" said Edge "Then try this: FUU..."
He was interrupted by a considerably large explosion which had blown a hole in the wall.
"I TOLD you that maze was weird!" said Palom, pointing to Edge, Golbeze, Yang, Zeromus and Romus' corpse "Everything is going on here."
"Oh...gods..." utterred Rosa "Zeromus?"
"Yes, Zeromus!" said Edge "We could use some help here!"
"Alright..." said Zeromus "Since you're all here, as I assume that Cecil and this elderly Dragoon have already met their doom, I can do this."
"No!" said Rydia "Whatever it is, we'll stop you! King of Dragons, Phantom God, I Rydia, require your assistance! Come and aid me with your power!" she called.
Bahamut materialised himself. He looked at Zeromus. And took a deep breath.
"Rage of nothingness!" yelled Zeromus. A green explosion filled the room. Bahamut was down and seriously injured. Everybody else was barely breathing.
"I'll take pleasure from finishing you off, ony by one." said Zeromus.
...
Everybody was in Baron. Every Mystian, Kaipan, Damcyanish, Fabulian, Myisydian and Eblanian citizen who survived the onslaughts of Damoryuu's was there. Everybody was doing all they could to ensure the security of Baron until further notice.
Edward, Cid and the Myisydian Elder were talking in the throne room.
"I feel something has changed." said Elder
"What d'ya mean?" asked Cid "What?"
"The evil power Cecil and the others are fighting...it is the same as five years ago."
"The same?!?" exclaimed Cid.
"That would mean..." said Edward "Zeromus!"
"And I also sense that they're all at their last..."
"What?!?" yelled Cid "What do we do now?!?"
"We can't do much..." said Edward.
"We don't need much either..." said Elder "All we need is a miracle."
"So?" asked Cid.
"Let us pray."
...
"Oh no!" said Zeromus terrified "You've no more left ribs left, Edge! I'll have to start breaking your right ribs!"
He was holding Edge up with his left hand, while breaking Edge's ribs with his right.
A Dark Wave flew into the hall. Zeromus dropped Edge and turned around.
"Leonheart, how nice of you to come. Want to participate in some pointless violence?"
"Not really..." said a man that walked into the hall. He wore a long white cape, grey trousers made of fabric, a turban on his head and a mask on his face. He didn't have any weapons with him.
"Who are you?" Zeromus asked.
"I am a Mystic Knight...and your downfall..."
"You're pretty insolent for somebody who has no weapons and stands before the most powerful being in existence."
"If you're so confident, then why am I still alive?"
"If you wish to die, I can grant your wish." said Zeromus and shot a Flare at the Mystic Knight.
The Mystic Knight blocked the Flare with his right hand.
"My Flare?!? WITH A BARE HAND?!?"
"My hands are never bare..." said the Mystic Knight. He was now holding the Ragnarok in his right hand and the Zero Blade in his left.
"What?!?" exclaimed Zeromus.
"Who IS this man?" asked Yang.
"I don't know..." said Golbeze "He has great power...but he seems like the Dark Cloud..."
"I DON'T CARE WHO YOU ARE!" yelled Zeromus "YOU DIE NOW! METEO!"
The Mystic Knight deflected the Meteors with the Ragnarok and Zero, but one hit him on the face.
"Ha!" said Zeromus.
"Ha, what?" said the Knight, raising his face "You have merely torn off my mask."
"CECIL!" exclaimed Rosa "You're alive!"
"Cecil?" said Golbeze "It can't be!"
"It IS me, brother." said Cecil "Mt. Ordeals has changed me once again."
"You may have survived Leonheart and my Meteo, but you can never match my power!"
"Maybe not..." said Cecil, raising his swords "But I will do all I can." he crossed Ragnarok and Zero in front of his face "As I hold Light and Darkness in my hands! I call upon Ragnarok and Zero Blade! Power of the End and power of Nothingness! What was and will be! Chaos Strike!"
Something, like a Dark Wave, yet created of both light and Darkness, shot from the crossed swords at Zeromus.
"I'm not that easy to beat!" yelled Zeromus "Flares of Doom!" he shot a beam of fire and destruction, that collided with the Chaos Strike and started to slowly push it back.
...
"I am a Dragoon..."
"You are more than a Dragoon. You are a Highwind. Never forget that!"
"I won't! I promise! I'm doing this because father was a Dragoon."
"Connor was the greatest Dragoon in Baron, and he also was the noblest warrior in all the land."
"I shall never disgrace his name, nor the ranks of the Dragoons!"
...
"Kain! What has become of you?"
"Who are you to lecture me?"
"I am Connor Highwind."
...
The Doom Flares were getting really close to Cecil, he was doing all he could to hold them back.
"Well, well..." said Zeromus "Even though you changed again, you cannot beat me! How sad..."
"Don't give up Cecil!" said Rosa "You CAN beat him!"
"Oh, he can't!"
"But WE can!" said a voice from above. Two Dragoons landed on Zeromus' left and right.
"Kain!" said Golbeze.
"Connor!" said Cecil.
"Highwinds?!?" said Zeromus.
"Highwinds." said Kain and Connor silmultaineously and pierced Zeromus' sides with their spears. Zeromus twisted in pain.
"Now Cecil!" said Kain "Give it all you got!"
"CHAOS STRIKE!"
...
The keep on mt. Ordeals disappeared.
Cecil the Mystic Knight, Kain and Connor Highwind the Dragoons, Rosa the White Mage, Golbeze the Black Mage from the Moon, Yang the Monk, Edge the Ninja prince and the Myisydian Twins were standing on the summit. On the ground between them lay the body of Romus.
"I will take it to the moon, and make him a proper burial." said Golbeze.
"...Golbeze...I am so sorry..." said an eerie voice.
"It cant' be..." said Golbeze. From Romus' corpse arose his spirit.
"...I am sorry for all the trouble I have caused to you...my mind was flooded by rage and hatred...I couldn't understand what was going on...ever since I entered the Crystal Chamber..."
"That explains enough...you may rest easy..." said Cecil "It will be forgiven..."
"Really...?
"If Cecil says so..." said Edge "I understand you were not yourself..."
"Thank you..."
"Golbeze..." said Cecil "Go and bury him. He deserves it. For all the pain he had to experience."
"Okay..." said Golbeze. He picked up Romus' body and went away.
"One question, though Cecil..." said Edge "How did you change?"
"When Leonheart wanted to finish me off with his Dark Wave, I did the only thing I could think of: concentrated for my own Dark Wave, as I did when I was a Dark Knight. The effects were better than I bargained for."
"Well, what are you going to do now?"
"I am going to fade away..." said Connor.
"What?!?" asked Kain "No, you can't!"
"I can't do anything about it..." said Connor becoming more and more transparent "Everything will be good son. Thank you for saving me from Zeromus' power when he brought me to life."
"Thank you for bringing me back to honor father... goodbye!"
"Goodbye!" Connor disappeared.
"Look guys!" said Edge "The Moon's back!"

Epiloguoe

A year later.

Eblana
"Edge..." asked Rydia "How is our son?"
"Daen's great." said Edge "But I don't know if we can take him to the wedding."
"Wedding?"
"We just received mail from Baron..."
Edge came into the room, carrying Daen
"Kain's getting married."
...
Myisidia
Reina and Palom were walking to the Temple. The Elder has called them for a meeting.
Their clothes and hair were in a bit of a disorder.
"My..." said Reina "Aren't we the naughty stud..."
"Why thank you..." said Palom "You were a pretty nasty cat too."
"If you two are done with your dirty jokes..." said Porom, appearing beside them and accompannying them "May we hurry. The Elder is getting impatient! We are to depart any minute!"
"Depart? Where?"
"Baron. Were visiting a wedding."
...
The Moon
"How nice of him to invite even me." said Golbeze.
"I was informed you can bring someone along if you wish."
"I'll think about it. Thanks for informing me Bahamut."
"My pleasure." said Bahamut.
...
The Phantom World
"Are we going, my dear?" asked Leviathan.
"Of course." said Ashura "I hope the wedding will be as beatiful as Rydia's."
"You can probably bet on it." said Mist Dragon.
...
Fabul
"Kain's getting married?" asked Yang "Let's go then!"
"I thought you wouldn't want to miss it." said Edward.
...
Baron
"Congratulations, Kain!" said Rosa.
"Thanks! I'm glad I'm back to being myself after all this time!" said Kain.
"Yes. And I'm sure Connor would be proud if saw you." said Cecil.
"You better go. You don't want to be late for your own wedding." said Rosa.
"Yeah, your bride might make her mind up to come here, knock you out and marry you forcibly." said Cid.
"Oh, cut that out." said Kain and laughed heartily.

Kain married Frija, captain of the Dragoons of Baron.
I'd say everybody lived happily ever after, but we may never know for sure.
We may only be sure, they will always had somebody to count on.

The End

This reply is only for the first two chapters as that's all I've had time to read so far. The idea is very interesting and I'm wondering just who this new threat, or old threat as you seem to imply, is and what they want. Kain is evil again? Can't that guy keep himself sane for a moment? And Yang, too? If Yang is truly being manipulated as Kain was then I really can't understand how such a thing would happen. But I'll save my reasons for that for later times as I'm still unsure if that's the case. And is Connor a dragoon? I guess I'll just have to find out.

I did find some errors, some in the grammatics department, and one that jumped at me pretty quick. In the first chapter you referred to Edward as Gilbert as he is in japan, and then in chapter two you called him Edward. Just thought you might want to correct that.
