What are your favorite games of all-time, and what systems did you play them on? Try to put your games in an order but if it's too hard to decide then just list your favorites any way you want. Consider which games gave you the most enjoyment and the best memories. The length of the list is up to you. I'll start. The first three games in my list are must haves, and I also highly recommend everything else here:

01.) Final Fantasy VI (SNES)
The ultimate classic childhood game. I played through it at least 5 times. The story is fantasic along with the characters, and the game features some of the best SNES graphics.

02.) Descent 1 & 2 (PC)
Throughout Jr. High and high school I was addicted to this first person shooter. Unlike most FPS games, this one puts you in a ship called the Pyro-GX, giving you full 360 by 360 vertical and horizontal rotation along with the abilty to slide left, right, up and down. You fly through mines shooting robots, finding keys and destroying the reactor. Once you destroy the reactor, you have a limited time to find the exit tunnel, because when time is up the entire mine explodes. The weapons, sound effects and music are all fantastic in both of these games. The mines always give a creepy feeling with full lighting effects, huge rooms that you have full freedom to explore, and there are even boss robots on certain levels that make scary mechanical sounds. You can tell how close the boss robot is based on these sounds. This was also a very popular multiplayer game, where you utilize your freedom of movement to pull off very complicated evasive maneuvers while shooting at your opponents. This allowed for some extremely talented Descent pilots who were nearly untouchable. There were hundreds of anarchy mines to fight in thanks to the mission builder utility which allowed you to make your own mines. This was a complicated program and allowed for some amazing architecture.

03.) X-Com: UFO Defense & X-Com 2: Terror From The Deep (PC)
These two games have a loyal fanbase, even though the series was ruined when X-Com 4 and 5 were released. In this game you set up bases around the world with limited range radar detectors that detect UFOs. When a UFO is spotted, you send out interceptor aircraft to shoot down the UFOs. Once they're shot down you send in your tactical army and through turn-based combat secure the UFO crash site. After this you take alien artefacts back to your base for research. Once the research is complete you have a better understanding of the aliens' superior technology and this allows you to use alien weapons, along with new weapons and aircraft that your scientists design. Eventually you can use mind control to tactical combat to either cause alien units to panic or take complete control of them. There are so many interesting and fun aspects to this game. You also need to find and destroy alien bases that are set-up on earth, and if the aliens find your bases they can raid them. Aliens also attack cities if you let them. All of the top countries in the world evaluate your performance in their areas and adjust their funding accordingly. You can also sell alien artefacts for money. This game offers probably more than 200 hours of gameplay before completion. It's the most unique and innovative game I have ever played.

04.) F-Zero (SNES)
It took me a very long time to finally master this fantastic racing game. The track designs are great along with the physics, atmosphere, sound and difficulty. When you get into this game the speed is just awesome and the gameplay is intense.

05.) Zelda: Link to the Past (SNES)
I think this is by far the best Zelda game ever. Ocarina of Time tries to emulate Link to the Past, but there's nothing like the real thing. The world offers such a variety and the dungeons are all fantastic. The puzzles arn't too hard and the gameplay is straight forward. Everything is right there on the screen for you to see, unlike the modern Zelda games.

06.) Star Fox (SNES)
This is the first 3D game I've ever seen, and when it came out it was revolutionary. This game has the coolest looking 3D robots. The graphics are simply amazing, one of the highlights being when flying into huge ships with long twisted tunnels. The difficulty was just right, not too easy or impossibly hard.

07.) Sonic the Hedgehog 2 & 3 (Genesis)
These two games are in my opinion the most fun platformer games. The speed was just so fun thanks to the fast Genesis CPU. The whole pinball theme went a long way in these games, with all kinds of springs and bumpers. The best part was all the loops and long downhill sections, along with flying through the air into a large group of rings. The level designs were fantastic.

08.) Super Mario Kart (SNES)
Here's another very innovative title. Mode 7 comes through offering great gameplay in a racing game just like F-Zero. Only this time the action is slower and more technical. All of the items added variety to the gameplay.

09.) Mega Man 2,3 & 4 (NES)
All the different weapons along with the fun level designs and great music made these games great. The bosses are always fun to fight and are usually quite challenging as well.

10.) Warcraft 2 & 3 (PC)
I play these for the multiplayer capability. There's so much you can do, and the forest atmosphere make these games very pleasent to play. Each game offers a unique experience as everyone plays differently.

11.) Streets of Rage 2 (Genesis)
In my opinion this is the best side scrolling street fighting game. There's a high level of difficulty and the levels are fun with colorful themes and cool music.

12.) Railroad Tycoon 1,2 & 3 (PC)
You can spend a lot of time with these games, building a railroad by connecting to cities and managing your trains. The competing railroads try to put you out of business.

13.) Top Gear 1 & 2 (SNES)
These are fun and fast racing games with the unique aspect of gas consumption. When you run low on gas you need to make a pit stop. You also get nitrous boosts. The tracks have many hills and turns, and the opponents are challenging. You can cruise at a high speed for a long time as long as you don't crash into anything.

14.) Blaster Master (NES)
This is a great platform game where you drive around in a tank that can jump and later on fly. Blaster Master is insanely difficult however. I beat it with the Game Genie but it was still extremely difficult. I had unlimited lives and died like 200 times. smile.gif

15.) Need For Speed 3: Hot Pursuit (PC)
Yet another innovative game here with cops chasing you for speeding. My and my bro had a lot of fun doing split screen racing. You can do a one-on-one race with cops trying to stop both racers. The tracks are fantastic and offer a lot of interesting situations and options for when the cops come after you. You can even be the cop and stop all the racers who are breaking the law. Fun stuff!

16.) Final Fantasy IV (SNES)
I never actually owned this game but I rented it and had a lot of fun with it. Recently I downloaded the rom and played through. It's a great alternative to FFVI but in my opinion FFVI is the better game.

17.) Dragon Warrior (NES)
I got this game when I was very young, and it's the original RPG. It's a great exploration game, because if you explore too far away from the place you start the monsters become too powerful and you die. So you spend a lot of time leveling up and buyin better equipment before venturing off further into the wilderness.

18.) Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec (PS2)
This is the first racing game that almost looks real. It's also the most realistic racing game around, at least until GT4 comes out. The music could have been better, but the realistic racing action is great, and it's fun to watch the replays while enjoying the realism.

19.) Stunts: 4-D Driving (PC)
I had a lot of good times with this racing game. The graphics are really ancient 3D, but you can make your own tracks with so many different track pieces. This was such a cool thing back when most games didn't offer much customization. I must have made over 20 tracks to do one-on-one races with a computer opponent. There's ramps, corkscrews, loops, pipes and over cool stuff.

20.) Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (SNES)
This is my favorite Mario game with revolutionary SNES graphics, nice music and many innovative level ideas which were executed very well.

Unfortunately the online Descent community is gone, but single player is fantastic. X-Com requires a slow computer to play (486-P133) or a CPU slowdown function. You can probably find this game on Ebay. It's also available for the Playstation, along with Descent 1. If you need more info on these great games just ask.

1. Secret of Mana (SNES). I can't get enough of this game. Playing it single-player is a blast, playing it multiplayer is even better. Greatest battle system ever, IMO.

2. Final Fantasy Tactics (PSX). This is almost number one. I love the strategy, I love the story, I love the characters.

3. Wild ARMs 3 (PS2). Just an all-around satisfying game. There are so many sidequests and secret bosses to beat, and it has a pretty good story.

4. Wild ARMs 2 (PSX). Really brought me into the Wild ARMs series. I love the story and the characters, and the puzzles are great.

5. Lufia 2 (SNES). Greatest puzzle game ever. I can't get enough of it. I love the characters, and the dialogue is really, really well-localized.

6. Chrono Trigger (SNES). This is the game I've played all the way through the most. At least twenty times, no exaggeration. It's just that good.

7. Link to the Past (SNES). So great. The best of the Zelda series, IMO, which should be obvious, as no others are on this list.

8. Final Fantasy III (SNES). I'll get people jumping down my throat for not saying FF6, but hey, the one I played was FF3 on the SNES. Obviously a great game. I love to find different ways to play through it.

9. Earthbound (SNES). Funniest. Game. Ever. Battle system gets a little tedious sometimes, which is why it's been lowered so many times (it was once my favorite game).

10. Suikoden III (PS2). Great game. I love having six people in my party and having so many good characters to choose from. Great story, I love all the throwbacks from the other Suikoden games.

Honorable mention: FF7 (PSX), FFX (PS2), FF2 (SNES), Suikoden 2 (PSX).

1. FFIV(PS) - FF2 was my favorite, but after playing the version with more of the true story it was gently pushed aside.

2. Suikoden(PS) - I couldn't believe how good this game was when I got it. 108 characters?! "There can't be any character development with that many" is what I though. I was wrong.

3. FFIX(PS) - I really enjoyed the throwback to the less technological times. Vivi has to be the single best character Square has ever created.

4. Quake(PC) - So many hours playing this game online. Team Fortress was so much fun.

5. Mike Tyson's Punch Out(NES) - The frustration of getting to the point where you fight Mike Tyson and then being obliterated. Finally defeating him made my year.

6. Ninja Gaiden(NES) - God I loved this game, I can still hum the opening tune where Ryu's father is killed...and not just because I have it as a MP3 either.

7. Earthbound(SNES) - This game just oozed with originality. I'm pissed they haven't ever completed a sequel for it.

8. Dragon Warrior 3(NES) - IMO the best DW ever made. I couldn't get enough of this game, I'm quite positive I logged more than 300 hrs on it.

9. FFVII(PS) - Sephiroth is my favorite villain ever. Not even Kefka truly comes close.

10. FF3(SNES) - I sold 4 games to buy this one. Definitly worth it. It's not ranked higher because, and I know I will probably get flak for this, I thought there were too many characters.

11. Suikoden 2(PS) - Direct sequel to Suikoden, with characters returning as well. Building a castle is an awesome idea, and it was implimented well in this game.

12. Chrono Trigger(SNES) - Really should be ranked higher, I know, but I've really only played this game through beginning to end twice.

13. Xenogears(PS) - Sn RPG with an included history that is longer than the US's. Being able to get into gears was very cool.

14. Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance(PS2) - I don't like D&D. I love BG: DA. The graphics are so clean, the fighting is simple to learn and difficult to master, and there is a good story to boot.

15. GTA 3&VC(XBOX) - The best version of arguably the best games of the last two years. So much liberty to do what ever you wanted, but there is also a good storyline and top-notch VA's. Counted as one game cause they're packaged.

16. Metal Gear Solid(PS) - Just an incredible game that has spawned countless clones. One of the best storylines in a game period.

17. Soul Calibur(DC) - I really dislike fighting games. SC was the complete opposite. Playing against the computer was cool, kicking a friends @$$ was even better.

18. Tecmo Super Bowl(SNES) - The most fun arcade type football game. Not realistic even though the stats for each player were very acurate. This game just rocked.

19. Halo(Xbox) - The best original game for Xbox, with a possible exception being #20. A FPS with an excellent story, and the Master Chief is cool as hell.

20. Star Wars: KOTOR(Xbox) - Another game type I don't usually enjoy, however with an awesome battle system, ability to choose a light or dark path, and very well rounded charaters this game won me over in just a couple of hours.

Honorable mentions: Suikoden 3(PS2), Star Ocean 2(PS), and Zelda: Link to the Past(SNES), Doom(PC), Contra(NES), Xenosaga(PS2)

My favorite games are mostly PC and Mac games. I was born and raised on a Mac, and got a PC a little later, and I absolutely love them.

1.) StarCraft (PC). This game is so unbelievably amazing IMO, it's perfectly balanced, its such a great game when you play multiplayer, and the combinations of units never gets tiring. It's been out for what, six years? I still play it and can't get enough of it. I've logged an obscene amount of time on it. I don't really know how much, but at least a few hours a day for most of the year over six years, with some days logging over 6 hours of game time in the first couple years on a schoolday...

2.) Baldur's Gate II: The Shadows of Amn and Baldur's Gate II Expansion: Throne of Bhaal (PC). This is the pinnacle of the D&D series IMO. Although it doesn't have the customization of some of its successors, I think the gameplay and overall vision of the screen makes it a champion among D&D games. I'm going to group all of my favorite D&D's under this one, but the Baldur's Gate series is truly my favorite. My other honorable mentions go to the Icewind Dale series, Neverwinter Nights, Knights of the Old Republic (it IS D&D style) and a couple other Forgotten Realms series that I forget offhand. Plus I heard that Black Isle is out of business, which may hinder or even seriously threaten the survival of the Forgotten Realms, so I had a renewed interest in these games after I heard the news.

3.) Halo (X-box). This may get pushed down later on, but right now I'm really into this game. Although I don't own it, my roommate at college has an X-box and this game, and some of my favorite times i://we dorms are spent playing Halo tournaments with some buddies. It's great hearing some friends in the rooms next to me shouting "NOOOOOO!!" or "What the Hell?!" when I kill them with sniper rifles from far away. Great times. The second installment of the game will likely be even better with the addition of Live when Halo 2 comes out. But for their success, I must give credit to the Bungie (the makers of Halo) games that were released previously, namely the awesome Marathon series and even the game that practically got Bungie started, "Pathways Into Darkness". They've come a long way and have made great strides in the gaming world.

4.) FFVI (SNES). I thoroughly enjoy this game, I find myself coming back to this game more than any other, because even though the story is the same, the replay value is surprisingly big when I like to do different things like play some characters more than others, mix parties, and try out new techniques or sequences of events.

5.) Sim Tower (Macintosh). Call me crazy, but I LOVE this game. It's about ten years old now, but it's such a classic game that I can't get enough of when I get back into it. I'm a sucker for classic Maxis games like Sim City 2000, but Sim Tower's really my favorite. It's simplicity yet customizability (sp?) enables it to withstand the test of time.

6.) WarCraft 2 and WarCraft 3 (PC). I group these together since they follow the same pattern and the units are similar for humans and orcs. WarCraft 2 got me hooked on gaming, especially multiplayer gaming, and WarCraft 3, although very fun in its own right, wasn't as fun as StarCraft IMO. I would like it more if the player could build docks and open up an entirely new aspect of the game by re-introducing sea battles, but I think WC3 was a little too focused on graphics to add more to gameplay. This game however is a fun game in its own right. It has new, convenient methods and features to facilitate and vary gameplay in real-time, and the map editor is highly customizable. You can do almost anything with it, which was a giant leap forward from what the StarCraft map editor was.

7.) Battletoads (NES). I played this for hours on end, though I don't think I ever beat it without using the Game Genie. This game was so fun and challenging, with each level being a unique experience. I loved every minute that I played it. The snake pit, the surfing level....it's all so memorable smile.gif

8.) Secret of Mana (SNES). Same as the reasons above. Excellent system, very easy to control everything you do.

9.) Excitebike (NES). I never actually owned this game, though I may as well have, since I borrowed it from my cousins so much I held on to it for quite a few years without them knowing biggrin.gif. This game's still very fun, and I give it credit for having or pioneering one of the first widely customizable options in console history, with the ability to create a race track.

10.) Realmz (Macintosh). Has anyone else played this game? I don't really know how popular it is, it's been around for quite a while now (I'd say 5-7 years). Anyways, the game is so simple yet addictive, and a very unique take on action that I haven't seen paralleled yet. The stories are pretty immersive and complex in their own right for the small price you pay for the scenarios.

Most of my favorite games are very old games with the exception of possibly Halo, WC3, and some of the D&D. I grew up with a lot of these, and still find they are true classics in that their innovation is unique, which still enables them to compare with the games of today. That, and I don't have a job right now, so money's a bit tight, and I don't have any of the new generation of systems (X-Box, PS2, or GC) so I play on a lot of other people's consoles.

Honorable mentions: The Zelda series, notably Ocarina of Time, the Mario series, particularly SMB 3, Super Smash Brothers, F-Zero X, Diablo 2, and the Harvest Moon series, namely Harvest Moon 64.

I just can't put them in terms of favorites, so the order here is random.

Super Mario Bros - Probably the one game that really drew me into gaming in general. This NES masterpiece is a classic in every sense of the word, and incredibly deep for its time. There's so much fun to be had in this little game, and I still play it even now.

Final Fantasy 6 - Of course I love this game; it's what brought me here in the first place. Final Fantasy 6 has got it all; deep characters (Shadow), an involving plot, and great gameplay. It's definitely my favorite Final Fantasy, and tied for my favorite RPG of all time.

Chrono Trigger - My other favorite RPG, Chrono Trigger is one of the most entertaining games ever invented. The characters are fantastic (especially Magus), and the plot is whimsical fun. I think my favorite thing about this game is that it never takes itself too seriously; although there's plenty of room for drama, there's always a quirky sense of humor that takes it through to the end.

Street Fighter - I'll just list this one as a series, because I like each of them in their own way. (Excluding the EX series, of course.) There's so much to learn in Street Fighter, and Street Fighter 2 is the game that got me into the genre. I've never looked back since. QCF+P!

King of Fighters - I like them all, with a few minor exceptions. The gameplay is similar to Street Fighter, yet subtly different, and the characters are some of the most original and memorable in any game. It may not be as well-known as some of Capcom's offerings, but it's easily just as good. And let's not forget everyone's favorite Korean hero...Kim Kaphwan!

Mega Man 2 and 3 - I enjoy all of the Mega Man games up to Mega Man X, and I think 2 and 3 remain my favorites. 2 was a brilliant successor to the groundbreaking original, which ironed out the gameplay and added some truly unique challenges (QUICK MAN'S STAGE). 3 continued the tradition of excellence, also introducing my absolute favorite Mega Man character ever, Proto Man/Break Man/Blues.

Harvest Moon 64 - I love almost all of the Harvest Moons, but 64 holds a special place in my heart. An oddball among my favorites which involves no violence or extreme action, Harvest Moon's down-to-earth premise is executed perfectly. I love this series, and I hope to see more of it for years to come.

Legend of Zelda - I'll list this one as a series too, because each of the Legends are masterful in their own way. Zelda's classic gameplay and penchant for creativity and innovation have captivated me with each release. There's so much to see and explore, and the series constantly explores new territory without a single misstep.

Starcraft - Out of all the real time strategy games, I'm fairly certain Starcraft is my favorite. By virtue of online play, I simply can't get tired of it. The gameplay balance is perfect, and the sheer number of possible strategies and situations keep me coming back for more.

Neverwinter Nights - I love Neverwinter Nights because of the sheer variety. While there is a main quest of epic proportions, there are new fan-created modules coming out all the time. It's like a thousand games in one, and the gameplay is impressive. This game can take away hours and hours of my free time.

Hoo boy! You want me to mention all my favourite games!? That list would be too long, so I'm just gonna list some of my favourites during the times. In no particular order:

- the Super Mario games

- the Zelda games

- Secret Of Mana (SNES)

- Mega Man 1, 2, 3 (the only really great Mega Man games) (NES)

- Shadowrun (SNES) Awesome game! Some of the best ideas ever, and great mix between RPG, action and "future movie element" (such as hacking computers, hiring bodyguards and gang wars). Great environment too.

- the Castlevania games

- Suikoden (PlayStation)

- Shen Mue (Dreamcast) Unique.

- Ninja Gaiden 1 (NES)

- Steet Fighter II (SNES)

- the Tomb Raider games. No, not because of Lara Croft, because of the game itself.

- Final Fantasy 6, 7

- Deja Vu, Shadowgate, Uninvited (NES) These games often get underrated and forgotten. I just love these old-school RPG:s.

- the Resident Evil games

- Super Metroid (SNES)

I just decided to list my favorite game from the systems that I have played.

NES - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. This was the original addiction for me as far as gaming is concerned.
Honorable Mention: Super Mario Brothers 3

SNES - FFVI, without a doubt. I've played this through more times than any other game ever, for reasons that I probably don't have to explain to people on this site.
Honorable Mention: Zelda - Link to the Past

Playstation - A close call, but I'd have to go with FFVII. It has the single best storyline of any game ever created, which more than makes up for the lacking "materia" system.
Honorable Mention: FF Tactics

N64 - Legend of Zelda - Ocarina of Time. This is the deepest action game I've ever played, and the most epic. The weapons, the dungeons, Epona...*sigh*
Honorable Mention: Quest 64 (hugely underrated)

Dreamcast - Skies of Arcadia. The crazy thrill of having my own little world built around a pirate vessel and loyal followers is absolutely orgasmic. Also, the exploration of the world through airships has never been executed more brilliantly.
Honorable Mention: Grandia II

Playstation 2 - I hate to say it, but I put over 100 hours into FFX. It has absolutely NO originality, borrowing almost everything from previous Final Fantasies (most notably VII), but it is a very nice blend.
Honorable Mention: Soul Calibur 2

XBox - Hands down, Halo. THE multiplayer game of the ages. Totally worth the price of the Xbox for it alone. Which is good, because it's the only good game for the system thus far. Halo 2...
Honorable Mention: None

OK, I'm too lazy to post my favorites in any kind of order, so I'm just gonna ramble off my favorite games.

FFIII - No Neal, you're not alone in calling it FFIII instead of FFVI
FFVII - Great characters, great story, great gameplay, good graphics, and an all-around classic RPG
Zelda 64, Ocarina of Time - Good gameplay, story and graphics
Super Mario World - Addicting gameplay, and now I can make my own levels for it (via hack)
Knights of the Old Republic - Need I say more?
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2,3, and 4 - I'm a skater tongue.gif
Curse of Monkey Island - Hilarious. That's all there is to it.
Trogdor - Kinda gets tedious, but that dragon is always cool.
Super Smash Bros. (and Melee) - Great fighting games starring your favorite Nintendo characters!
Kirby's Dreamland - This game sucks (but not in a bad way wink.gif)

...and a whole bunch o' others I can't think of now.

Wow. 1,000 posts.

I miss you all now that I'm in boarding school! ;_;

well, short of just listing all the different versions of FF6/3 i have played tongue.gif
heres my list:

1) Final Fantasy 6 - Best game ever... wub.gif

2) Super mario series - I couldn't possibly pick a favorite, so i'll just list the whole series.

3) The rest of the Final Fantasy series - Notably amoungst them are FF4, 9 and 10

4) Diablo 1 + 2 - These are the types of games (especially II) that you can waste so much time on. Best D&D style game without Baldurs Gate in the title.

5) Baldurs Gate: I just recently got into this series of games, but it has held me in its grasp like no other game i've played in quite awhile.

6) Gran Turismo 3: A-spec: Best racing game ever, and I love my racing games.

7)Metal Gear Solid Series: The gameplay was near perfection (at least in 2) and the story line was awsome and very well fleshed out (at least in 1 laugh.gif ) And the boss characters where the coolest i have ever seen (both).

8) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: Arcade: This game used to be the best Multiplayer game IMO, i still boot it up every once in a while just for a smile... biggrin.gif

9) Myst series: I haven't played III yet, and these are the only adventure games i ever played, but man they were good. They had the creepiest atmosphere and the puzzles were insanely challenging, at least for a 10 yr old.

10) Doom: The FPS that started it all for me. I've never been particurally good in this genre, but back in the day i used to activate god mode and just blast away for hours... thumbup.gif

11) Tony Hawk Series: Even though i'm starting to burn out on the series, i haven't gived T.H.U.G. a try yet, hopefully that wil renew my faith in this otherwise amazing series.

1. Final Fantasy VI- I got this game when it first came out and never stopped playing it.

2. Chrono Trigger- This is the game that first got me to love rpg's

3. Legend of Zelda:Ocarina of Time/ Majora's mask- I spent weeks trying to find every single gold skulltula in OoC.

4. Final fantasy VII- The storyline and character almost rivals FFVI.

5. Perfect Dark- Best FPS ever

6. Skies of Arcadia Legends- I think it is the best non-square rpg out there.

There's so many great games out there I can't think of any more that stand out.

Oh, shoot, I almost forgot Soul Calibur for Dreamcast. It brought weapon-based fighters to a whole new level, with great gameplay, characters, and graphics.

I don't like Soul Calibur 2 as much, as I've stated before. Though the gameplay and graphics are in many ways much improved, I had some issues with the characters, particularly the glaring lack of Hwang. Introducing Hong Yunsung, the ultimate low-tier character and a disgrace to Korea in general! Boo.

Heh. Most of my list is based off of nostalgia, but these games are still the best, no matter what:

Honorable mentions: Ice Hockey (NES), 1080 Snowboarding (N64), Dig-Dug (NES), Rampage (NES), Shining Force 2 (Sega Genesis), Sonic 2 (Sega Gen.), Contra Alien Wars (SNES), Act Raiser (SNES)

20.) Fighter's Destiny (N64) - OK, attention all people who may have played this game. Remember the 'Survival' game, in which you had to fight 100 ridiculously difficult consecutive battles, no continues, and you'd get the Joker, the coolest character in the game? Got to stage 100, died...the memory still plagues me today...

19.) Final Fantasy X (PS2) - Graphically, this game is total eye candy. I loved the characters (Rikku excepted), especially Lulu, Auron, and Seymour. Blitzball was a cool concept, and I still played it a lot, but it was just too slow-paced...I liked cards better. The rest of the mini-games were great, and challenging to the extreme (esp. second butterfly hunt). The ability to uber-uber-uber-max your characters out was really fun, but could be extremely boring after a while. All in all though this was a great game. (forgot to mention Anima - one of the coolest summons/materia/GFs/eidolons/aeons ever)

18.) Super Mario World (SNES) - All of the different stages, all the different colored Yoshi's, and a gray and purple controller in your hand..memories don't get much better than that.

17.) F-Zero (SNES) - There were only 4 guys to choose from, but man this game was a blast. The stages were so cool and futuristic-looking (okay okay it's SNES graphics but they're still cool), and had all kinds of ramps and jumps to go off of.

16.) Mario Paint (SNES) - This was basically a gillion mini-games packed into one game, and one you could use the SNES mouse on. My favorite thing to do was look at my Nintendo Power, and copy the designs they use in the ink-square painting mode to re-create scenes from the NES Zelda and NES Metroid.

15.) Mario 3 (NES) - This game sold so well, and not surprising. Play through the game without using one whistle (except maybe in world 7)..it's so fun.

14.) 007 Goldeneye (N64) - Either playing single or multiplayer, cheats or no cheats, this game was awesome. My favorite thing to do? Play with three other friends License to Kill, Pistols, Library, Unlimited lives. We'll set a stopping point around 200 or so. Either that or live again the challenge of playing through Aztec on 00 Agent with no cheats.

13.) MegaMan X1, X2, and X3 (SNES) - SNES housed the greatest games ever, and the MegaMan games are no exception, although MegaMan games spiraled once they were ported to the PSX. MegaMan was cool, Zero was even more cool, Sigma was tough, and the story when looking at the three overall was great.

12.) MegaMan 1, 2, and 3 (NES) - These games are classics, I'm constantly playing them on NESticle. MM2 was my favorite, with really cool bad guys like QuickMan.

11.) Chrono Cross (PSX) - Although not nearly as good as its predecessor, Chrono Trigger, I was still excited when I first found out about this game and it didn't dissapoint me. The graphics were great, the music was cool, and there were zillions of cool characters, and it was uber-fun. I was only dissapointed with the lack of combo techs and the story, which could be confusing.

10.) Final Fantasy VII (PSX) - I didn't even have a PSX when FFVII was out, so my older bro immediately borrowed one from his friend, and both of us played that game, non-stop, till both of us beat it, each with well over 100 hours on our files. (Oh yeah, I was a killer shot at Super Dunk Basketball - I got so much GP that it MADE me stop..seriously) I don't think there's any reason to explain why FFVII was so great.

9.) Zelda: A Link to the Past (SNES) - Just a really, solid, fun game with all kinds of secrets to find. I mean, it's Zelda, it's great, it's one of the games that embodies the best of the SNES, the greatest console ever.

8.) Street Fighter II: The World Warrior (SNES) - I have so many fond memories of this game; it's jacked into my SNES right now. It really never gets boring, regardless of how many times I play it. IMO, SFII practically launched the Fighter genre; I think it's the best fighting game ever. I also remember always trying to avoid beating my older bro when I was six, he'd always beat me up for that. laugh.gif

7.) Secret of Mana (SNES) - I've played this game till the AC adapter was sizzling; I can't really describe why such games are great..they just are. (Yo Neal, I've got all three characters leveled up to maximum with EVERY weapon, and the girl and the sprite are all level 8 with their summons shifty.gif )

6.) Final Fantasy VIII (PSX) - Okay, I'll probably get beat up for this one... C'mon, the graphics were obviously amazing, the music (Liberi Fatali?) was awesome, I really liked Squall, but still thought the other characters weren't too excluded (they still have their own personalities - look at how many people hate Selphie: you hate people for having a strong personality that you dislike, not people with no personality). The R1 trigger was innovative for battle, the card game was fun, and I didn't mind drawing 100 spells from each monster with each character (sure, it's boring, but getting those beautiful stats don't come easy!); lastly I thought the plot holes were negligible, at least they really didn't bother me too much.

5.) Super Metroid/Metroid Prime (SNES/GameCube) - Man these games were cool...I loved all the guns, the monsters, the music (Norfair?). And there's always the added bonus of trying to complete it in uber-fast times so you can see Samus in her undergarments blink.gif . Metroid Prime was great in its own way, it was so dark and haunting in some places it was scary ohmy.gif . Both were magnificent games (Prime also really stands out as being one of the few great modern games).

4.) Final Fantasy IX (PSX) - Although not at my top, this is the MOST FUN game I've ever played. Mini-games GALORE. The super-deformed characters didn't bother me either, in fact I thought it was new and fresh. The music was wonderful, second only to FFVI IMO. Everything screamed classic, and I ate it all up. Dungeons and dragons, princesses, magic, pointy-hats...the story was great too, and the ending was absolutely magnificent (Best FF ending ever).

3.) Chrono Trigger (SNES) - With the look of Secret of Mana, the elements of Final Fantasy, and with IMO the best battle system ever, time traveling, a crazy-but-cool story, badass characters, and multiple endings, not much gets better than CT.

2.) Final Fantasy IV (SNES) - I'm all worn out from typing all of my explanations for the other games. But CoN Forumgoers know why this is amazing.

1.) Final Fantasy VI (SNES) - Ditto, but one add-on. This is THE BEST GAME EVER thumbup.gif

Okay, my favorite game ever is Lands of Lore: The Throne of Chaos, by Westwood. Yes, it's old, but the graphics are great, the storyline is great, the characters are great...I've played it about a bazillion times and have practically memorized where all of the monsters are. And what gets me is, there's still stuff I haven't figured out about the game, and it's still a challenge every time I play it.

I adore the Quest for Glory series by Sierra, especially numbers III and IV (IV had the best fighting system, IMO, and it's a damn shame it's so buggy). I still haven't played number V, and really really really want to. This series is a great example of continuity and overarching plots, with plenty of adventure, action, and humor.

The Dungeon Keeper series. My GODS I love these games. I'm not usually a big fan of strategy-type games, but every now and then one comes along that catches my interest. This is a game where you get to be the villain. How cool is that??!

Descent. I'm pretty bad at this game, but I love playing it. There are a lot of edge-of-your-seat moments, especially in one particular level (I think it's level 13) that's full of lava, and the path between the reactor and the exit is made up of an incredibly confusing honeycomb of rooms full of robots who blend into the freakin' walls.

One Must Fall 2097 by Epic MegaGames. Fairly old fighting game, but a really fun one. This game lets you customize your fighting style in two ways--first you pick a pilot, which determines your strength, agility, and endurance as well as your colors, and then you pick a robot, which determines your special moves and the way you fight. Certain pilots, of course, work better with certain robots. You can play arcade-style or two-player, and there's also a tournament mode wherein you can upgrade your pilot's and your robot's stats by winning money in fights, and even unlock secret challengers and special enhancements that give your robot new moves!

Now, moving away from the PC to the console...

Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance. This game is INCREDIBLE. I stayed up until 7:30 AM playing it with my boyfriend (he was the Archer, I was the Sorceress). The experience was so immersive that we got into character to the point where it actually hurt the way we played. The first time we encountered a Will-O'-The-Wisp, we didn't know what we were seeing. We just saw this floating ball of light, and he went, "Wait. What is that?" And I said, "I don't know...it's pretty..." We approached it, and suddenly AAAAARGH it was attacking us! We had a good laugh about it afterwards when we realized how we had been acting. smile.gif This is also a game during which I had what I like to call a "true gaming moment". We had to get across a big pit by jumping across floating platforms, but every time you jumped on one, it and all of the ones around it would fall away except for one, and you had to aim for that one to continue your jump. We tried it and failed a few times. Then, after my BF had failed once more, I said, "Okay, let me give this one more try." And at that moment, I went into an almost trancelike state, and jumped across the pit without a single error. It was magical. I'm really looking forward to the next game in the series. smile.gif

Anyway. Next on my list is Soul Reaver: Legacy of Kain. Drooool. The game world is gorgeous, the characters are wonderfully written and designed, and the dialogue is simply amazing. I've played it through about five or six times by now, and I'm still not sick of it. Now I'm trying to make it through the whole game and pick up every powerup without looking at a walkthrough. Not easy! I especially love the soul-sucking mechanic, the fact that some of your more powerful Glyphs can wipe out foes who aren't even in the same room with you, the puzzles, and the fact that fighting the bosses requires real strategy. Since Defiance has come out, my BF and I are now planning on just buying all the games in the series. I say it's worth it.

Speaking of soul-sucking, Onimusha. I played this game all the way through in one sitting with the friend who owns it sitting next to me and acting as a living walkthrough. It's not easy, but it's lots and lots of fun, and I love the different fighting styles you have to use. I especially loved the boss fight with the bee-woman, I believe her name is Hecuba. Sooo fun. Another of my friends is currently obsessed with trying to beat the pot-smashing mini-game.

Dynasty Warriors 4. I thought this game would be too hard for me at first, but I picked it up almost immediately, and now my BF and I are trying to unlock all the rest of the items, stages, characters, and whatnot, while gradually working all of the characters we have up to max rank. I'm working on Da Qiao at the moment. Soon we'll have to start unlocking their level 10 weapons. Now this is a game that gives you plenty to do. Whee!

And of course, the Final Fantasy series. I mean...come on. Who doesn't love Final Fantasy? happy.gif

6.) WarCraft 2 and WarCraft 3 (PC).  I would like it more if the player could build docks and open up an entirely new aspect of the game by re-introducing sea battles, but I think WC3 was a little too focused on graphics to add more to gameplay.

I disagree. Blizzard is all about gameplay. it comes first and foremost, that's why they release patches and balance changes so much. Also, I'm glad they scrapped the sea element. It turns games into Who can build the most cannon ships and battleships like in War2, and it really just puts a hindrance on all the good land unit gameplay. It would just make the game a hassle IMO.

1.) Starcraft. I've been playing this game on and off since 7th grade. I'll get sick of it, but let a few months go by, and my friends and I all get back into it. Right now, me and my friend go into games and just build insane amounts of fully upg zerglings. It doesn't matter what the other guys have, because they're base is obliterated before they can react. smile.gif

2.) Tecmo Super Bowl (NES). I really can't tell you much time and how many times I went through this game with the bears and murdered the computer. Brad Muster to knock guys around, and Neal Anderson to run all the way back to the 1 yard line, and then zig zag all the way back into the end zone. Good Fun.

3.) Warcraft 3. Great game. I'm bored with it for the time being, but that's because I'm busy playing SC, FFX-2, and Max Payne 2.

4.) 3D Movie Maker. I don't know if anyone's heard of it, but it was basically a game where you had actors, props, scenes, all in cartoon form and could make your own movies, add in your own sound effects and music, etc. I made some real funny masterpieces. However, when my sister took the computer to college, she deleted all of them. mad.gif

5.) Dynasty Warriors 3/4. Outstanding games. Wow, I couldn't get enough of all the ancient Chinese stuff after playing them. The characters were all great. Go Lei Bei and Pang Tong!

6.) Mario 3. Classic, you gotta love it.

I can't think of anymore worth writing right now. FF7 should be up there somewhere though.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (NES) I first played this game when I was 5 years old. It's been nearly 16 years, and I still play it on both the console and emulator.

Star Fox (SNES) Is it even possible for this game to get boring? Probably the greatest game ever made.

WWF Smackdown! 2 (PS1) I love the way the gameplay is on SD games. I like 2's CAW best of the three I've played.

Super Mario World (SNES) The fun part is getting all the stages beat. Bowser can wait.

Ace Combat 4 (PS2) Best game I had on PS2.

Wing Commander (SNES) As you've probably guessed by now, I have a thing for fighter pilot games.

NFL 2K3 (GCN) I didn't even have to be playing this game to enjoy it. Grap some pizza and Mountain Dew and watch the game with the computer controling both teams. GO STEELERS!

Dragon Warrior 3 (NES) If it wasn't for this one, I wouldn't be at this site right now, and I wouldn't have so many beaten RPGs on my resume, and I wouldn't have a guy at whatthedilly's forums calling me "hardcore" in an RPG thread.

Final Fantasy VII(PS1) The one that got me on Final Fantasy. I thought the object of the game was to destroy all the reactors and fight the president, so I was shocked when everything went haywire from that point. Not knowing how Final Fantasy was, I was initially disappointed in VIII because I expected it to be a sequal. I learned a lot about Final Fantasy from this one.

Ken Griffey Jr. presents Major League Baseball (SNES) I changed all of Seattle's names to Star Trek characters (except Griffey and one player which I gave my name to) and played a whole season with them, which is a bit disappointing because I'm a Pirates fan. Sadly, doing so made it the best Star Trek console game ever...

Okay, here's my top ten:

Tecmo Super Bowl NES- I have won the super bowl at least once with every team in this game, and I still have fun with it. Let me put it this way: on my first Nintendo controller, the right button is permananlty depressed.

Chrono Trigger SNES- Simply the best RPG ever. Story, graphics, music, replay value, everything, just brilliant.

Grand Theft Auto 3 PS2- The thing I like most about this game is that I've spent hours having fun not even advancing the story, just driving around at random and finding new ways to entertain myself.

Final Fantasy VI PS- Would be right up there with CT if there was a plus game or double abilities. But other than that outstanding in every way.

Soul Calibur DC- Even though I never owned a dreamcast, I played this game in my friend's room for hours. Like SM noted, SC2 isn't quite as good.

Metal Gear Solid 2 PS2- Taking the art of storytelling and gameplay intertwining to a whole new level.

The Legend of Zelda NES- I still think the original was the best combination of fighting and puzzles that made the series what it is today.

Super Mario Kart: Double Dash GC- I didn't think for a second before it came out that it would stand up to the original. After all, The 64 one never did. But this one has changed my opinion with so many different options and game modes, and fantastic levels.

River City Ransom NES- One of the most underrated games ever. Hours of fun to be had just walking around fighting people. For a very early side-scrolling fighter, it had great play control and hit detection.

Civilization SNES- I was very, very addicted to this game for the PC. So much in fact that I paid $80 for it (the most I've ever paid for a game) when it came out on the console. It got a little less fun once I figured out how everything actually worked, but I still love it.

Yeah! I agree! That game was very great. Good idea, and very funny graphic style. It was a little difficult though. But perhaps I didn't play the game enough to learn the tactics. sleep.gif

Ar! These games I can play anytime, with anyone, anywhere and I'll have LOADS of satisfaction from it!

Prince of Persia(part 1) - the first game I have ever played. Smooth animation (even though you could see every pixel), great music (PC speaker RLZ!), obedience to some basic laws of physics, and man, I beat the game in under 24 minutes with NO CHEATING!

Scorched earth - the mother of all games - Ayt! This is THE game! It brought the "aim and fire" genre to the limit, bringing me thousands of hours of warfar against the computer, my Bro, and the kids from my neighbourhood.

Worms - I got to name my own team, and the team's memberless members. I got a pretty nicce arsenal and some sweet graphics. And I have lots of combat to rhink back to...

Soul Calibur - It all started with Soul Edge... and the guy with the short sword and devastating kicks... but SE was unbearably static... I found a game arcade with Soul Calibur. This Game ROCKS! Dynamism, simple, yet versatile controls and the BEAUTIFUL graphics. I played SC2 once, but since there was no Hwang, I piicked Heihachi for my first fight. I didn't like it. SC2 = less cooler than SC

Tekken Tag Tournament - the most popular 3D fighter around here (Warsaw, poland) I'm pretty much one of the best TTT players around, but the guys that beat me are reflex impersonated. My team: Heihachi/Jin

Final Fantasy I -> VII OMG! the best comp. RPG's ever made! I love 'em! They're so addictive and so forth and so on, but we all know that! Three cheers for FF!
Hip-hip-hurray!

Pinball - and I mean REAL pinball! The pinball games at the arcades! They're the greatest things invented since the female gender! (And I mean it!) Pinball games OWN you all for generations to come! AR!

BOW DOWN TO PINBALL!

Edit
The order's random except for Prince being the first. Just for the record.

Oh man Leisure Suit Larry was so funny, I can't believe I didn't remember those. I remember having to play them behind my parents back, cause they would've gotten pissed. laugh.gif
