I know very few people here care about College Football, but for those that do, here are some questions for ya':
#1: Are you even going to watch the Sugar Bowl tomorrow night? #2: If so, who do you think is going to win? #3: (most importantly) With the inevitability of a split championship, do you think we'll see the end of the BSC and the implementation of some sort of playoff when the BCS contract expires in 2005? And my answers: 1. Only if I'm not too tired from the NFL playoffs. 2. Oklahoma redeems itself 31-14. 3. I have a good feeling it's out of here. I realize there's a whole lot of money to lose in the process, but eventually someone's going to realize there's a whole lot of money to be gained, too. Imagine this: the six power conference winners (Big 10, Big 12, Big East, ACC, SEC, Pac 10) and the two next highest rated teams are put in the playoffs. You can still use the BCS to rate them, but at least everyone still has a chance. You add the Citrus Bowl, Cotton Bowl, and Peach Bowl to the Bowls already in the mix, and rotate each year which bowl is the championship and semi-finals. Match them up 1-8, 2-7 etc., play the first rounds the weekend before New Years, the Semi-finals on New Years, and the Championship on January 8th. I guarantee that people will be just as excited for each of those bowls, probably more so. It will probably be even more exciting than the NCAA basketball tournament (which is already considered one of the most exciting events in sports.) If they had this system this year, it would have looked like this: Cotton Bowl 1- Oklahoma (at large) vs.10 Kansas State (Big 12 Champion) Okay, so we get a rematch right off the bat. But who wouldn't want to see this one again, if only to see if it was a fluke or not? Orange Bowl 2- LSU (SEC champion) vs. 9 Miami (Big East Champion) Great local value for this one, (which is one of the knocks against a playoff, there might not be any rivalries.) Peach Bowl 3- USC (Pac 10 champion) vs. 7 Florida State (ACC Champion) Citrus Bowl 4- Michigan (Big 10 champion) vs. 5 Ohio State (at-large) Okay, another rematch. But I doubt anyone in Michigan or Ohio would mind seeing this game played twice a year. Fiesta Bowl 1- Oklahoma vs. 2 LSU Assuming no upsets, you get this game anyway. And if there is an upset, great that's what the playoffs are all about, and what makes it exciting. Rose Bowl 3- USC vs. 4 Michigan I really don't think it would be so hard to keep the conference rivalries of certain bowl games in tact this way. Sugar Bowl ???? If only this would really happen, I would be so much more excited. Oh well, looks like another great college basketball season ![]() -------------------- Hip-Hop QOTW: "Yeah, where I'ma start it at, look I'ma part of that Downtown Philly where it's realer than a heart attack It wasn't really that ill until the start of crack Now it's a body caught every night on the Almanac" "Game Theory" The Roots |

1. Probably not, since the Oregon Ducks have a basketball game on TV. Not sure what time, but I'd rather watch that.
2. Though I'm not watching the game, I say LSU 24-21. I said earlier this season that if LSU made it to the national championship they'd win it, and I'm not going to back out on that now. 3. Though they've already said that they've eliminated any chance for a playoff next season, I think there will be significant changes in the way the BCS works out...I think, for starters, the human polls should be more heavily weighted (such as 2 points for #1, 4 for #2) to add more of a human aspect. Also, a team should not be applicable for the BCS title game if they didn't win their conference. I also think that the Big Ten should extend an offer to Miami of Ohio to join the conference so that a title game could be set up in that conference, but that's beside the point. ![]() -------------------- Hey, put the cellphone down for a while In the night there is something wild Can you hear it breathing?
