Yes, it's very different than what we all originally thought. The real FF4 Easytype in Japan was even easier than what Square ported to the SNES. I won't describe further in this post, but you all should really check out this site:

Interesting!  Very, very interesting.  Well now we'll have to make a difference between the two when we say "FFIV Easytype" now won't we?

Personally I prefer the older version of Zemus (this new one looks like FFVI's Hidon and Death's lovechild).

Aside from that, it's a neat read, but nothing big.  I was rather miffed that people apparently think Ted Woolsey wasn't a good translator, he's the reason FFVI is such a great game IMHO.  But that aside, I'm glad I saw this or I'd probably have trouble with the FFIV quizes I'll be taking later on. :E

That was some pretty interesting stuff. I thought I knew EVERYTHING there was to know about ffiv. The invisble treasure chests sure proved me wrong.

They're all clearly marked as which version they are.  Easy Type is now available here as well as the original version and FF2us.

thats definitely some cool stuff. i love when sites have those "secrets dispelled" sections, because i sometimes come across these really out there "secrets" in games, that i coulda never imagined in my wildest dreams. they are of course false, but never the less, its fun to look at.

are these diffrences in the FF4 UK version?
( igot mine 4 weeks before the release date- they apparently sent it out early in scotland!)
also, is it just me, or do enemies with petrify only every target three people? right now, they onkly vere go for edge, rosa and kain in my game!
finnally, there is a roumour that 'depetrifying' palom and porom is exclusive to the UK version, but it has to be rubbish. i dont even remeber where i heard it, but it cant be true.

I can tell you for a fact, they never add anything to the European versions.  They usually don't change anything at all.  The only change I have ever seen is that FF9 UK actually used British English.  That was most welcome, but it's irrelevant.

I'd love it if they'd throw in an Australian personality. If they do make sure an Australian goes over it.

*is stunned*

First time I ran across this page.  Didn't know someone was listening when I checked out Zeromus' HP.  Well, nice to know someone did! :E

And for FF2, that figure is around 62,000 if not exactly that... I'd have to look again.  Memory's fuzzy.

So how's this go now?

FFIVHT or FFIV or FFIVj

FFIVMT or FFIIa or FFIIus or FFIVET(us/a)

FFIVET or FFIVETj

Hard-Type, Easy-Type, and Medium-Type?

*could add more name possibilities, but there are space constrictions

By the way, I heard of the hidden treasure thing awhile back, so far back, I forgot where...

FF4 -> FF2us -> FF4 Easy Type.  There's no such thing as "Hard Type" technically, it's just normal FF4, but people have come to call it HT compared to the others.

It's not that HT is meant to be harder, it's just that ET is meant to be the extremely easier version.

hrmph, it is still doing the same thing. The popup one usually gets when downloading something appears then an error message comes up ontop of that saying: "Internet Explorer couldn't download ff4wrong/ ...either it couldn't be found or is unavailable"

The site works for me... but anyway, let me make sure I have this straight. The FF4 I played on FF Chronicles (US) was the original FF4 from Japan and not the somewhat easier FF2 (US) and definitely not the mega easier FF4 (Jpn) that has R51's avatar... I have that right, right?

That's basically right. Chronicles does have some minor changes compared to FF4j, I think, but it's a lot closer to that than to FF2us or FF4ET.

The absolute closest you can get to the original FF4 is probably J2E's fan-translation of the original FF4j ROM (we can't tell you how to find it though, unless someone has a link to the translation patch only, and not the full patched ROM). It's been nicely modified to fit decently long spell/enemy/item names etc. as well, so no more giggling at summons called COCKT.

Moderator Edit
And if someone DOES have the patch only, I'd like to get that link, or the file. Giggle giggle. -R51

ahhh geez, why couldn't the piglet sword have been in chronicles, i believe it is unfair that multiple versions of the game were made, and we only got one on the snes(which was titled II and is impossible to find), and also there is chronicles

but down to the facts, why did they even make an easy-type version of the game, it makes no sense, other than they felt the owners of the game were unhappy with certain aspects of the game.

which i am not, whoever owns the easy type has an easier form of the game which i believe is just plain wrong.

I'm still a little confuse on this. So let me see if I can get this straight.

The FF4 on FF Chronciles is the original FF4 from Japan, with some small changes, and not the easy type that was release here in the US or the easy type that was release later in Japan?

So do I have that right?

Meh. I've never actually played 2US (or IV, whatever), but I still think that's strange that they should change the game. Just goes to show how much faith the Japanese have in American's ability to play games! dry.gif (no offense to any Japanese out there)

Well, I'll be damned. Thanks for posting this, a good bit of it was news to me.

Actually, I've heard of many cases of the American versions being harder. Contra: Hard Corps in Japan had a life bar, Final Fantasy VII supposedly is a bit more difficult here than the original Japanese version, some of the Street Fighters have been tweaked to make certain combos harder to do, and there are a few others I can't recall off the top of my head but I know I've heard of.

I assure you very few Japanese would say the same about Americans, so don't sweat it.

That wasn't it.
At the time, video games in America were considered a "Kids thing", so you couldn't very well release a video game that's difficulty level was for teens.
At the time, translators had an actual list of things that couldn't be included in video games, because alot of parents would get over-sensitive over certain levels of profanity, sexuality, and religion.

Edit
And you can't blame any Japanese stereotypes of Americans, since it was Americans who translated it
