What do the stats do (vigor, mg power, speed, etc...)?
I thought speed increases the chance of when you attack first but since i got cyans speed up to 110, he doesnt attack very fast. And i also heard that vigor is supposed to increase the damge u inflict, but ive also heard the it determines how much your hp increases per lvl. so a rundown of what the stats would be niceplz (or a site that shows it, ive looked but couldnt find anything bout it) -------------------- Vists www.ffcg.irth.net for news on an upcoming final fantasy card game! |

HP Growth is fixed.
Speed determines how fast the ATB bar is filled (barely notable) Vigor is attack strength -------------------- "I had to write four novels before they let me write comic books." -Brad Meltzer |

alright, since DP didnt do all the stats i shall try to do the rest. (not saying you couldn't, because i know you are very well equipped to do so, you just must not have felt like it).
STM-helps with defense. also increases the amount of HP one recovers with regen. SPD-i disagree, locke attacks three times before umaro (or whomever) would because of the speed boost. however lockes speed is 128, while umaro's is like...man i dont remember. but its possible to depict speed boosts once placed beside another. sorry to nitpick EVADE-doesnt do a damn thing buddy. evade is screwed over, and everything is based upon MBLOCK, so just worry about that. MBLOCK-uhm..duh! you should be able to figure anything else out on your own. -------------------- once you can accept yourself, you will never be alone |

I'll just do them all because I'm bored...
Vigor - Physical strength. For monsters, their Vigor is a random amount determined before battle, somewhere between 58 and 65. Speed - How fast the gauge fills up, or rather, the more you have, the shorter it takes to get your next move in. However, yes, Speed boosts in small amounts, as with all stats (like, a couple points), are barely noticable. Stamina - Helps in determining how much damage/recovery you get from Poison, Seizure, Regen, and Tintinabar (note that it always increases, even when the effect in question is damaging), and also whether you can block these attacks: Break Doom Demi Quartr X-Zone W Wind Shoat Odin Raiden Antlion Snare X-Fer Grav Bomb Chain Saw (instant death variant only) Keep in mind that for some, like the Espers, it's because enemies also have a Stamina rating, but theirs is determined by an equation that involves their total HP. It can't go above 39. Mag.Pwr - Magical strength. Bat.Pwr - The power of Fight, Jump, and Gau's enemy Specials. I also use the same rank in the attack guide because they are essentially one in the same, it's just that spells, tools, etc. provide their own, independent from this and most anything else. Defense - Physical defense. Evade - If it worked, would help dodge physical attacks. Mag.Def - Magical defense. MBlock - Helps dodge both physical and magical attacks provided your ROM isn't patched. And although you can't see it, it is there: Hit Rate - Determines how often Fight and Gau's enemy Specials hit. This is determined solely on your weapon's hit rate and abilities. -------------------- |

OK ZED, can you clear up something about Evade for me? Since it doesn't work, would any attack that was deflected by a shield still have been deflected had that character not been wearing a shield? I mean, I'm having trouble grasping that a shield would make any difference whatsoever if you couldn't evade attacks, yet the shield still pops up from time to time. And about Blind: I would assume that Square programmed it to raise the blind person's target's Evade instead of lowering the blinded person's hit rate, thus proving Square really did have their heads up their (collective) ass when programming this game, and turning this from being a question into a statement that happens to have a "?" at the end?

Sheilds can raise M.Block, which then raises the character's evasion capability. When a character dodges an attack, it can be in a variety of forms, including sheild block, miss, cape miss, sword block and whatever Shadow does. A sheild's main function is to increase the defense of the character, making him/her take less damage.

Yeah, how do those various blocking/miss animations work? When do they come up, and why?

Vei, i90east and GMH-
Zed may be able to tell you more about the game mechanics, but here are some basics about Shields and Graphics. 1) Even though Evade% is effectively disabled, Shields are still valuable because they have other Defense properties besides Evade%. The Genji Shield is an excellent simple example. The Genji Shield has 54 Defense which reduces the damage that you take from physical attacks by a ratio approximated by 54/256. The 20% Evade% stat is useless and has no effect on the game. It has 50 MagicDefense which reduces the damage that you take from magical attacks by a ratio approximated by 50/256. It also has 20% MBlock% which makes (20/127)% of physical and magical attacks miss. 2) The little red/white tower shield icon that appears with a miss simply represents any miss due to your total MBlock%. So the shield icon represents a miss caused by the MBlock% from all 4 sources (Armor, Helmet, Shield and Relic) of MBlock%. 3) The redcape icon that appears with the Zephyr Cape is simply the hits that are blocked by the specific 10% MBlock provided by the Cape. Let me reiterate, the Zephyr Cape does NOT block more than any other +10% MBlock armor/shield/helmet/relic. Suppose you have a total of 30% MBlock with 10% provided by the Zephyr Cape. Then if an attack was blocked by the first 20% (as determined by fixed and random numbers in the internal ToHit formulae), then you see the normal red/white shield miss graphic. If an attack was blocked by the last 10% MBlock (Zephyr Cape's 10%), then the redcape graphic appears to show a miss. Hope that helps. This post has been edited by Detah on 17th December 2003 18:32 |
