I use Sabin.

A combination of the genji gloves, the offering, and Sabins brute strength makes him invicible. I still can't beat Chupon though laugh.gif .

I use Umaro.
since you can't control your characters at the Colluseum, it has no effect on Umaro. he ALWAYS attack. he will not waste turns with useless magic like refect, level 1 magic, and any support magic.
give him a safey belt, Offering, running shoes, Rage ring, and/or blizzard orb, (any of these combos would do) and he will be unstopable.
he wins most of my colluseum battles, since the colluseum has no effect on him at all.

I use Sabin. I like him with Gengi Glove + Offering. The problem is though that he does useless things sometimes. Like he once Whirlwinded himself out of battle. I think that HAS to be a programming bug. There is NO reason to use Whilrwind if you are alone... you sacrifice yourself to heal everyone else.

And it's impossible to ever beat Chupon. He's there to punish you for betting a worthless item.

It's actually possible, IF you have high enough levels and attack power and are equipped with the Genji Glove/Offering combo and something like Illumina and AtmaWeapon. But you basically have to take him down in 1-2 turns. (I've read before that if he doesn't sneeze the first turn he's a pushover.)

yea, that's the probelm with the rest of teh characters. the rest use crapy attacks while Umaro goes for the win.
it's like he's a ticket to win the colluseum battles.

i personnaly like to go thru the game without teaching shadow any magic, then fighting with him in the coileseum. That way he attacks or throws every single turn. The only drawback is that occasionally he will throw an awsome weapon, but o well. Shadow rocks!

I agree, Umaro is the fighter to use during the Colloseum battles because he won't randomly cast a pointless spell or do something stupid.

I believe if you put the Dragon Horn on someone and have them jump with a powerful weapon before Chupon casts Sneeze there's a good chance to defeat him.

I rarely fight in the Colosseum. And if I do, it's only to get special items like "Rename Card" and "Merit Award", for example. And when I do, I use different characters, so my vote is null.

Im surprised no one has mentioned the ultimate Colosseum fighter, what I like to call The Godling:
Terra
Illumina, Paladin Shield, Bard's Hat, Force Armor, Black Belt, Ribbon.
Now she has 132% MBlock, which means she automatically blocks every non-Unblockable magic and physical attack in the game. She will counter attack when hit. Immune to all negative status effects. She is immune to 4 of the 8 elements and absorbs the other 4. She often Morphs as her first action, so make sure her Morph is charged up to max.

Chupon is a different story. I recommend the following:

Shadow
Stunner, Stunner, Genji Helmet, Genji Armor, Genji Glove, Black Belt.
Now if he hits, he has a good chance to STOP him. If he does, you will almost always win this fight. This is the only way I know of to beat Chupon. I also recommend that you equip all your other chars with your rare weapons so Shadow wont Throw them.

His attacks are Imp, Fireball, Sneeze and Fight. I estimate he casts Sneeze 75% of the time. So even with this setup, expect to try again dozens of times.

I don't fight much, but when I do, I either use Umaro or Sabin. The battles are too unpredictable to use anyone with magical options. I don't generally win much, though. ^_^

I do pretty much the same as what Shirrow does. I guess I'll just null-vote on this poll.

Detah; while your Sneeze percentage is correct, your attack listing for the Collosseum Chupon is not. It only consists of Battle and Sneeze. If you want to know what a monster can do in the collosseum, check out its Control menu, as enemies won't use their main scripts in the collosseum. Counterattacks, however, can still be used.

Also, you can't get a second Stunner. I assume you mean Striker.

Anyway, I have no specific Collosseum fighters except Shadow and Mog. Shadow for Chupon obviously, I rely on DragoonBoots, Dragon Horn, and Stunner (and have since 1995, never used anything else). Mog is used against Pug since I neglect him Magic-wise, making him perfect for when Step Mine's damage hits 9999. At that point, I teach Mog Imp, and hope he uses it, as he'll have a much better shot at doing so than anyone else who knows a few more spells. The "why" behind this is simple; Pug will counter with Step Mine regularly and as a final attack, which means you must either a: shut him up or b: use Life 3. I go the shut up route since I can teach Mog Imp and only Imp through Imp equipment.

Seeing all these posts of various ideas, I've thought of picking back up my FF3us rom and experimenting with this stuff.

I do remember using Umaro for several battles in the Colosseum, but the only one for which he was successful was against Shadow (I believe it says "Shadow Chupon" out of a graphics glitch). Of course, I only fight those monsters who will reward me with good stuff (such as Marvel Shoes) and those monsters who do are usually very tough. I generally try to use a powerful physical attacker, such as wishing Edgar to use his chainsaw or Cyan's Quadra Slice/Cleave or Sabin's Bum Rush, but seeing as how the choice is random it often does become pretty annoying. Strago I tried once (wishing for StepMine), but he got KOed immediately by Blaster; so did Relm, Mog, and Locke, as I remember, against the same monster.

I've never beaten Chupon before, of course, but Master ZED, that's a really good idea. I know it's possible to beat him, and I think I want to try out your idea. By the way, can you mute Chupon, and will it work to prevent Sneeze?

I voted Edgar. He's a good all-around fighter, and his abilities in most areas are quite good, making him self-reliant.

I used to use Sabin a lot, but I noticed he has a rare tendency to use Spiraller and kill himself. Though it definitely doesn't happen often, the possibility always exists, so I tend not to use him any more.

i just sent setzer (surprise) into the battle arena to win the illumina from a didalos. i equipped him with a genji glove, the offering, dice and the fixed dice. using this combination, not only did i kill the didalos in my first round, BUT i killed doom gaze in one shot, without him ever running away. and again i confirm that setzer is the greatest character.

ever.

i've been playing through, final fantasy VI again, mainly powering up SHADOW, and he'll rip new @-holes on his oppents in the colluseum, he is really usful when equipped with striker, and stunner swords, with genjiglove/offering combo, shgadow is basically unbeatable, it is just too bad i accidently taught him some magic though, good thing it is utima, so now whenever i'm in the colluseum he'll throw a weapon for good-great damage, he'll attack 8 times, have a higher possibility of stunning his enemies, and every here and there cast ultima, isn't that sweet.

Cloud:

1. Throw is disabled in the Collosseum.

2. Stunner relies on its Stop spell to inflict the Stop status on targets. Offering disables that, so it becomes like any other weapon.

Stunner is still good for having the highest Bat.Pwr of all of Shadow's weapons, just don't count on Stop if you're using Offering.
