Why do you think Kefka did what he did? We all know he's insane, but can you expand on that?

he justs wants what everyone wants, respect and power (and he was just masking his blatant homosexuality)

Insanity was the only reason behind his actions. Kind of makes for a flat character, though.

i agree with the insanity motive. he desired total destruction. aren't we led to believe that the magic infusion drove him insane?

There is no back story to Kefka or his ambitions. Why did Gesthal keep him in such a posistion of power? Well love him or hate him Kefka can get the job done one way or another. If your an Emperor and you have talented officers you use them. However power corrupts and it was only a matter of time before Kefka was going to get Gesthal and climb the ladder. however he acted alone in his rebellion and waited for the right moment to carry out his plan. The Clown gimmick could have very well been a facade to hide a more calculating sinister mind.

He is your everyday greedy dictator type of guy. He gets powere, but it isn't enough. So, he wanted the power of magic. Thats why he did all those things. And the reason why he dresses up like a clown, I will never understand.

like dragonhawk said, kefka was the subject in the first experiment to infuse people with magic. since the process was still without imperfection, it drove him out of his mind. why gestahl kept him in power is beyond me.

Yes, as dragonhawk and therandyrhoads touched on, Kefka was the first to be given magic infusion by the one and only Magitek Scientist, Cid. I'm not sure who says it, but I believe this is implied by someone while you're in the Magitek Research Facility or in Vector.
I also believe somewhere in the game it's implied that Gestahl kept him in power because he did something cunning that made Gestahl believe he had potential. I also believe the whole Clown gig is just his scarred mind from the infusion not being to integrate with formalities. I would like to write a FanFic in the future on the Empire and a Fictional story on Kefka before the infusion. I'm a big DBZ buff, and the whole Buu/Uub story always has instilled the "Good Side of the Bad Guy" what ifs in me for everything else. |

Like Terra explains, life is about love. The opposite of love is hate, which is highly destructive. Kefka obviously never has any clue what love is about, and he has the crazy idea in his head that the purpose of life is to destroy it. He wants to create his monument to non-existance. Why? Because he can, and since he doesn't believe in love that gives him the justification (in his mind) to do what he wants. He formulates his own ideas because he doesn't want to live by the rules set forth by reality. It's typical rebellion, just taken to the extreme.

okay, i have never been a fan of kefka, and here is why:
alright, he is supposedly insane and craves only the destruction of the world. Wow, he is the most basic of bosses. he is the "im evil, w007!" type of psycho. How bland. There is a small difference between him and the other w007tastic bad guys, he succeeds. He beats the good guys, and takes over. Now here is the problem; he didnt back up his threats. With the heroes completely scattered and crushed, and without anyone else standing up to challenge him he had nothing to lose! He could have easily wiped out the entire planet, no problem. But...he didnt. He just sat in his homemade fort and practiced his Dr. Frank-N-Furter look. Which he failed at by the way, Frank looks way better IMO. It is also said that he supposedly knows what goes on everywhere in the world, and would therefore should know what heroes are up to. Yet he never does anything to even hinder their quest, let alone destroy them outright. The bottom line could be two things: either kefka wasnt as insane as people thought, and just wanted to rule the world. OR he was a sissy and not completely committed to his own threats. Of course, there is also option three, which is simply this: Kefka was a poorly developed character. Three choices, YOU make the call! -------------------- once you can accept yourself, you will never be alone |

Possible spoilers: highlight to view and when he got all the power he could he used his death ray to destroy any one he saw opposing him so kefka was just crazy and greedy *+ the tattoos prove hes insane -------------------- "Have you ever seen a baby do that before?" |
