about a week ago, i started three new FF6 games, and i just finished saving cids life on file #2.

during the 15 minutes or so i spent doing this, i decided to talk to the seagull on the beach a few times.

check this out: if you talk to the seagull while there are fish in the water, it will look at you, say its peice, and then keep walking on its merry way, but if you talk to it when there are NO fish swimming around, it will look at you, tweet once, turn in a random direction and "die"(?). anyone else ever notice this? guess he starved to death or something.

i was also wondering about the nutritional values of the 4 types of fish. all i know is to feed cid the fast-swimming "yummy fish" if i want him to live or the slow-as-hell "rotten fish" if i want him to die fast. every time you talk to cid, his health goes down one "point". yummy fish bring his condition up about four points, and rotten bring it down about two i think. do the other two types have any kind of nutritional value to cid at all? and if so, which one is healthier, the "fish" or "just a fish"? ZED, im looking at you on this one.

Just a fish:

I think somebody named "Tereii Senshi" or something like that has an FFVI algorithm posted online. It lists the fish values (biggrin.gif haha) there.

I've never observed the seagull thing probably because I've never taken the time to try it out. I've only played through it once, and I saved Cid's life at around 1 AM, so it wasn't something I wanted to take my time with.

That should get you to the main FFVI page. He has a database of information there.

every time i've played the game i have never kept cid alive. there are never enough fast fish.... i wait and wait and wait. he always dies before more come.
it doesnt really matter, i think the storyline when cid dies is pretty powerful character development for celes.
as she says later on the airship 'im glad i made it this far, i feel i have a lot to live for'

If you talk to Cid the fish get reset thats all I no but for some reason the fish seem intent on Cid dying. I tried lord no's I did but whenever he got near healthy the fish disappeared and he got sick again so I after 30 mins just killed him I mean hell I don't like Celes anyway so watching her jump off a cliff wasn't so bad. rolleyes.gif

Instead of talking to Cid for more fish, can't you leave the town and come back in? I've done that a few times, but I don't remember if it reset the fish or not.

Keeping Cid alive is not that important unless you're emotionally attached to him and Celes. It would have been cool if you could have transported him to a town, instead of leaving him on the island alone. That wasn't very nice of the airship crew. pinch.gif Heh.

the only way to reset the fish is talking to cid, but wasting time wastes precious life. i only save cid so i can have a more complete file, the plot really does flow better when you let him die though.

Saving Cid is so easy. I never had a problem with that. I've heard that Cid's health goes down with 1 point for each second Celes is around the house or on the beach, but I'm not 100% sure.

Oh, and about oddities, how about those weird desert enemies like Earthguard and Peepers, who die after a couple of seconds. That was really scary the first time I met them.

youre right, i was incorrect about how his health goes down, every second he loses one point on a 250(or so)-point scale.

the earthguards and the peepers and pretty stupid, but if youre at a low level, and youre all by yourself, just pray that you dont happen to run into a black dragon.

actually, peepers and earthguards are grreat enemies, if you're a mad item collector, as if they live long enough to steal (have Gogo and Locke steal)you can get Elixers/Megalixers. I'm not sure which item came from which enemy.

this is also very true, they are a great way to get those items if you have time before they self-destruct. you get the elixers from peepers and the megalixers from the earthguards, by the way.

Dude, that is Rockin'-Rad! biggrin.gif I always was thinking every time I'd random encounter those things on the desert.. "Square had to have a reason for making these things have didly for life and self-destruct sequences." Elixirs are the ish, but the real treat is the Megalixirs when you're in battles that need Reflect but you can't use Curative Spells.

Also, therandyrhoads, does having Cid die change anything as far as dialogue or plot in the game? I know it shows that sequence where Celes jumps from the cliff, but other than that I can't remember any changes.

if you save cid, the suicide attempt is taken out, and he just tells you about "the project" hes been working on (the raft). other than that, there is no real plot or dialogue change whatsoever. its pretty lame if you let him live really, but i do it anyway.
