I have played ff6 all the way through, but I did horrable at it sad.gif . I didn't train my characters properly and they ended up being horrible. I heard a friend say that he can get his characters to do up to 6000, I can only reach 2000. So, I am going to start completely over. But I am not sure what characters I should use and how I should train them. This is where the purpose of this forum comes into play. I would like to know what characters that you use and which property you increased the most with them. That a way, I will be able to compare all these results and do better in the game happy.gif . This time, I'm coming prepared.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I forgot to ask a big question. Who should I keep, Odin or Raiden. I heard a lot of people tell me to keep Odin. That a way I can up my speed.

I do it based on skills, and what I would use them for.

Terra - Strength & Magic Equally
Celes - Strength & Magic Equally
Cyan - Strength
Edgar - Strength
Gau - Strength & Magic Equally
Gogo - Magic Primary; Strength Secondary
Locke - Strength Primary; Magic Secondary
Mog - Magic
Relm - Magic
Sabin - Strength Primary, Magic Secondary
Setzer - Magic Primary, Strength Secondary
Shadow - Strength

Note: Vigor above 128 is useless. So when it reaches that, I focus on HP and MP.

actually Gau has highest attack pwr O.o (although you can't use any weapons)
as for HP, every character's HP gains same HP for each level. Their base HP (and MP) is the only difference. All the character's HP will only vary less than 100 at same level. Items like Muscle belt and red cap can increase your HP and such espers like bahamut. However, it's still possible to get your character's HP over 6k without doing any of that.

(I think he meant 6000 damage inflicted)
Edit
With a regular attack

I am talking only about regular attacks, not magic. I want to have Sabin able to do a bunch of damage so I can equip him with the genji gloves and the offering.

Most of the time you would want someone like LOCKE or SHADOW to get the genjiglove/offering combo
because as stated above SABIN's bumrush will totally do major damage
so practice his blitzs regularly
with EDGAR use his tools, no MP for great damage. the tools i suggest as the only ones you need are; auto-crossbow, chainsaw, and drill. also give him 2 powerwrists, and/or the musclebelt
STRAGO, TERRA, CELES are all good for magic-users

*just remember it's always better to use thier ability in battles with most of the characters

for locke, max his speed. trust me.

for gogo...well you cant equip an esper to him, so i hope you like his stats.

relm, magic, then speed or stamina (and mog, and strago)

cyan, vigor and stamina (along with edgar, sabin)

shadow-speed and vigor

celes and terra-magic, speed, and stamina. ehhhh--i guess

gau-speed, speed, speed! or maybe stamina either is fine

offering+genji glove? you cheapass! lol, just foolin with edge. you can kill kefka in one attack that way, and i am pretty sure most characters can do it. IMO the game isnt that fun once you do that, but--whadda i know?

See More (Total 9)
Terra--great magic, OK physical; extraordinary magic and good physical when morphed.
Locke--the fastest character, but not one of my top characters, because he only has OK attack and OK magic. Give him the "TreasureHunterGlove" (translate) to make him more useful by having him steal and attack at the same time.
Edgar--Tools do quite some damage, but not as much as if magic or blitzes can do. A well-rounded character with OK-good stats all ways.
Sabin--your most powerful attacker. Bum Rush should smash most things, and Air Blade is also pretty useful. Mantra can be useful occasionally too. Mainly a physical attacker, but doesn't have too good of defense. OK magic.
Shadow--good physical, OK magic, but also has the ability to throw stuff (ignores defense:)!). (Remember, ninja stars actually aren't that expensive!) A moderately useful character.
Cyan--highest attack power, but too slow with the SwdTechs. Magic is, although OK, probably the worst of any character. However, a powerful attacker if not considering special skills. Dispatch, Quadra Slam, and Stunner are not too shabby, though.
Gau--know this boy's rages, and he'll be a very useful character. Some rages even give you Haste, Safe, and/or Shell. He also has great stats.
Celes--a great magic user, although not as good as Terra. However, Runic is mainly useless unless you can situate it just right.
Setzer--good physical, good-to-great magic. Slot isn't too reliable (after all, it is a slot machine) but usually produces Chocobop or Flash/7-Flush (3 diamonds; name depends on which version you're playing), which is an OK-to-good attack. H-bomb is rarer, but is better. GP Rain (equip the Coin Toss relic to get this) is nice, since it also ignores defense (and attack), but is VERY expensive.
Mog--Dances are good, but don't rely on them, since unless you're fighting in the right territory, Mog has a 50% chance of failing. Dances also don't necessarily give you the move you want. Mog seems to have OK physical, good magic.
Strago--lower-range OK physical, but great magic. Learns lores, which aren't that useful until you get StepMine, CleanSweep, Aero, Quasar, and/or GrandTrain. They really deal nice damage.
Relm--lower-range OK physical, but rumored to have the highest starting magic power. However, sketch often doesn't turn out something good and control fails sometimes and is lost when the controlled target is hit by a physical attack. If you're going to use Relm, don't use Umaro or Gau in the same team.
Umaro--ignores you and kicks @$$. But doesn't always kick @$$ the way you want him to. Give him the Rage Ring for defense-ignoring throwing attacks, and the Blizzard Orb for an occasional ice attack. Is defended (by snow muffler) from many elements, though.
Gogo--usually regarded as a useless character unless you note the possibility of adding the skills of other characters to Gogo's battle menu. (You don't even have to have Fight or Item!) Stats are low, but OK, and versatility more than makes up for this.

Possible spoilers: highlight to view
Now, as for Leo--impressive stats all around, but unfortunately put to bed by an unsavory character (or more than one?) and couldn't get up in the morning.

Use Gau and he'll take care of you throughout the game. Check out this thread to learn his best rages: optimize gau

You'll also want Sabin and/or Cyan for brute strength. These two kill enemies in a hurry.

Having a second high evasion character besides Gau is good too, like Shadow. Defense is important. A second magic user besides Gau is a good idea also, like Celes, Relm or Terra.

Late in the game have someone with a Genji Glove and Offering if you're really struggling. Equip the Gem Box and Economizer on your magic person if you're really really struggling. With this stuff you can't lose. rolleyes.gif

Good luck!

sorry i misunderstood on the first time. If you want to do lot of damage, i guess equiping raiden and bismark to increase your vigor. Unless you are using a weapon like atma weapon ^ ^

Thanks for the info guys, I just have one more question. Where do you train? Every where I go the enemies are too weak and give me about zero exp and magic points. I usually try to get one character walking around with the exp egg, but it still isn't helping much. Anyone know where I can get fast exp and magic points?

The dinosaur forest is a great place to train. It's north of the Veldt.

Speaking of training, my 11 year old brother just pulled out the old FF3 SNES cart and turned it on. My old game is still on there with four level 99 characters, and the game time is maxed out at 99:59. I forgot about that. biggrin.gif

Kefka's tower is another place to train but it's not as good. At least then you can pick up all the treasures, and head over to the colloseum if you need to.
