Where was that dummied out lv73 60001hp kefka supposed to be in the game? Speaking of dummied enemies, where are each of them supposed to be?
What really made me wonder about Kefka is that this dummied Kefka is that even stronger than the final Kefka of the main game. -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. You mean the Narshe Guard-type Kefka? The other dummied enemies I have no guesses on, but I have one for him.
I think he was originally supposed to be an invisible, untargetable enemy that was to be included in the first three of the final battles. The reason I guess this is because of his command script. It triggers a formation switch when it's the only enemy left in the same style as the final battle, and all three battles it triggers are pieces of the finale, in order thanks to FC 1B commands. However, this enemy is obviously not designed in a manner that would fit the job. He can't take his turns instantly upon the death of all other monsters for one. This would result in a lag between monster death and moving on, which would allow you to heal fallen members if you were lucky and fast enough, and the final battles are easy enough as-is. Two, the F2 command cannot specify the next battle background, so this would have required a seperate ASM routine anyway. Better to code it elsewhere instead of in another enemy. About the only thing this monster did that Square did not account for in the final release is the name. Kefka would have been displayed in the enemy name box for all battles, not just the last one as the No Name bit is clear for this dummied Kefka. As it is, the first three enemies have no names, leading people to wonder what they are. If you side with the evidence this dummy monster provides, then the first three tiers are actually different forms of Kefka himself. Not "Esperoids", not reincarnations of the three Goddesses, but simply a warped and deformed part of Kefka. But that's if you believe the Narshe Guard-type Kefka and my babble. -------------------- |

Since Glenn is still around, I'll bump up this thread with the answer.
The Narshe Guard Kefka is nothing more than a script that executes the final 4 battles. Without this script, the battle would end after the first tier of monsters are killed. I researched this because I was looking to create custom monsters in my expert version, and I needed unused monsters. People told me not to mess with the Narshe Guard Kefka Anyway because of this, the monster's stats didn't matter so Square just used anything. Believe me, Kefka needs more than higher stats to be hard. It takes a custom battle script and a more powerful Goner spell (like 9999 HP damage on all allies, ignoring character defense). -------------------- FFXI (Siren server) Tauu the Windurstian Tarutaru! Actually, no. Like I said, it's hardcoded, the Narshe Kefka is a dummy. His only use is that of a tutorial in F2 and FC 1B command usage.
If you don't believe me (as if the absence of this monster from the final battles shouldn't already have clued you in), mess with it, and it will do nothing to those battles. If you want a result, try messing with the data in Terii's code2.txt, and look up the word formation. Better yet, if you want to see where the formations for the final battle are kept, find the words "Data for changing formations in last battle" (sans quotation marks of course). Besides, people told you not to mess with him because he glitches. I don't know why, but he does. I haven't figured out why because it just doesn't interest me. -------------------- |

Hmm, ok. The only reason I was so confident in my answer was because a buddy of mine who's also working on an expert version told me that he changed the Narshe Gaurd Kefka, and then the final battle ended after the first tier. Oh well, maybe he was stoned or something.

speaking of dummy, is there whelk monster dummy? I've seen a whelk with 50,000 HP on the ff3 editor, but I believe it's possible to beat anyone that strong in the beginning >_>
Was that the real one? or is there another whelk? -------------------- I will be there... |

That was the shell, it really does have 50,000 HP.
There is a monster called Whelk Head, but that actually is Presenter's head. The enemy called Head is actually Whelk's head. Edit ...and Whelk's shell is plenty beatable if you can survive six Mega Volts, as the spell costs 20 MP and the shell has only 120 MP. They expect the player to be scared off by Mega Volt's power is what I suspect. This post has been edited by Master ZED on 29th November 2003 21:03 -------------------- |

Some do, some do not. Monsters #375, #376, #382, #383 are nameless Narshe guards that never see the light of day. Umaro, Kefka, Colossus, CzarDragon... these guys have names.
