Just curious about what kinda of good bands are out there. The time of music I usually find myself listening to our Trapt, "Made of Glass" rules all, Linkin Park, I love "Faint", and Evanescence. So you can see I like rock. Anyone know any new awsome rock bands out there?

awesome new bands, eh?

-Switchfoot is a kickass band... you may know them from "Meant to Live" which is a kickass song.
-Jet is a also a fine new band... their sound very much resembles a type of White Stripes type garage sound. You may know them from "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" (which is a sick-tight song), but they have a lot of good stuff. Try a song like "Cold Hard Bitch".
-You already mentioned Trapt, and I will second the fact that they are a great band. I love "These Halls" and "Hollowman" is righteous as well.
-One of the excellent new rock bands who appears to be a sleeper in the mind of rock fans is Smile Empty Soul. Claim to fame is "Bottom of a Bottle", but there are so many other good songs on the cd. heart.gif "Silhouettes", "Nowhere Kids", "For You", "I Want My Life"... hell, I heart.gif that entire cd
-A lighter, yet still righteous rock band is Palo Alto. "Fade Out/In" has been on the radio, maybe you've heard it. But they churn out a lot of good mellow, yet rockin' tunes. "A World Outside" and "Always Running Home" are my personal favorites.
-Not necessarily a new band, but the re-emergance of A Perfect Circle has made me a happy camper. APC's singles include "Judith", "3 Libras", "The Hollow", and more recently "Weak and Powerless". I've always been a fan of Maynard James Keenan in all his bands and projects (most notably, Tool heart.gif)... songs like "The Outsider", "The Package", "The Noose", and "Pet" steal the show from their new cd.
-Sloth is a new band that I've been really looking forward to getting into. I haven't bought their cd yet, but I've heard a couple tunes from them. And they sound like a revamped form of Offspring. Try a song like "Someday", which you may or may not have heard from the commercials for ESPN's Playmakers.
-the Exies are also a righteous new band. "My Goddess" is their single, but the whole cd deserves attention. "Can't Relate" is an awesome tune as well as the ballad of "Creeper Kamikaze".

There's a whole bunch of new good music coming out... I could name more, but I think I'll leave some for the others...

They've been around quite a long time but still haven't gotten the recognition they deserve. Listen to CKY, they are one of the freshest, most original bands out there today.

Go listen to some Radiohead. You can listen to various albums and with the exception of vocals you would swear you were listening to a completely different band. Gotta love those bands staying on the cutting edge biggrin.gif

I adore the White Stripes. They seem really original to me. Their newest album, Elephant, is amazing. I love almost every song by the band that I hear...I can actually listen to entire WS albums all the way through. I can't say that for many other bands and their albums.

Third Day, Jars of Clay, Glassbyrd, Casting Crowns, Jeremy Camp, SonicFlood, and Delerious? are all excellent Christian Rock Bands.
Kutless and Reliant K are nice Christian Punk bands.
The Undecided are ok. They're not really my taste, but they have a nice Punk sound to them.
DC Talk sings almost every form of music imaginable. Rock, punk, hip-hop, and I think they even have a few poppish-sounding songs.

Actually, one of things I like most about the White Stripes is how UN-ORIGINAL they sound, but in an original way... Ill explain.

I think the White Stripes are very unique for a modern band, as they seem to about the sound of the late 60's rock. I definitely think that if they were around back then they would have been at Woodstock tearing it up with Hendrix and others.

So as far as them having a new unique sound, not really, BUT it was very clever to revive one of the best time eras of music ever.

Anyone up for some metal?

Hammerfall, Dream Evil, Masterplan and Nightwish are all great metal bands with many good songs. Filter is a good band too, but they are slightly different from the bands I just listed since they are techno/metal.

I'll second the greatness of Filter. They are truly unlike any band I've heard... and that's why they rule. A couple good songs from them is "Hey man, nice shot...", "Under", "Stuck in Here" is a nice ballad, "Welcome to the Fold", "Captain Bligh", "the Best Things"... others as well...

I can't leave this without mentioning my personal favorite band... Rage Against the Machine. I mean, in my personal opinion, there is no such thing as a bad Rage song. There are songs better than others, but there is no such thing as a bad song by Rage. Audioslave, which includes the three remaining members, is a righteous band as well, and I have a lot of respect for Cornell as a musician. But I would be willing to send Chris Cornell to the moon if Zack de la Rocha wanted to return to the group. I won't mention any superb songs because they all are, just pick one.

I gotta disagree with the whole revival of the 60's band thing. All of the new "The" bands would amount to the first "The" bands as much as the number bands, amount to the first punk. What's worse is that it's terrebly mainstreamed and/or "cock-rocked." I'm sorry guys, but that kind of music is like a bad laxitive it just doesn't move me enough.

Try Bjork, Tori Amos, telepop music, Air, Oakenfold, Biohazard, Dead Kennedys, The Ramones, The Circle Jerks, The Queers, Social Distortion, AFI, Mushroomhed, GWAR, Mindless Self Indulgence, Soundgarden, Audioslave, Rage Against the Machine......That's all I can think for now.

Byork is cool. then there are the pixies and the smiths. queen is cool. i like happy hardcore for techno-remixed video game music. cool stuff. if you can download music, you should definitely get stuff from old megaman games. namely megamanX(the first).
i completely forgot about prodigy and orgy, they kick a$$ too. lemme think...i know there are more, but i cant think of any. oh yeah, im not much for metal, so i cant help you there. dry.gif

I must agree with other fellow Radiohead fans here. They are such a unique band that manage to blend their various skills, ranging themes, and stylishly unique vocals to make each and every song worth listening to.

Aside from them, there's many bands all over the place that have made great contributions to the music world from all genres. KoRn (older moreso, but their new is still good), Linkin Park, Audioslave & RATM, System of a Down, Tool, and many others.

If you'd like a very intriguing and enjoyable track, try this piece of music. It's from the Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers trailer, and can be seen in most of the new advertisements that feature the Return of the King along with the new LotR video game. You can get this beautiful piece of music composed by Clint Mansell (from Pop Will Eat Itself, another good band) right at the site listed below.

The Two Towers - Requiem Overture

Edit: And yes Matt, I have seen the movie when it came out and am well aware of it, the original song is entitled Lux Aeterna, composed by Mansell and performed by the Kronos Quartet. However, the song was changed in more than one way for the Lord of the Rings movies. I just thought it was unnecessary to list its history of past uses cool.gif

The song, aptly called the REQUIEM OVERTURE is actually from the movie Requiem For A Dream. It came out like 3-4 years ago. Clint Mansell did the entire soundtrack. The LOTR movies just felt they should use it for their new trailers.

You talking about "The Hardest Things that No one Ever Knows" (if that's not the exact, its a title similar), AD? Because that is an impressive song... I'm looking to pick up the CD ("Deja Entendu) when I get a chance.

I'm also digging a song entitled "Try Honesty" by Billy Talent. Give that one a listen.

YES YES YES!!! I'll second that!!!

Totally agree! Dream Theater is one of the best bands ever! I bought "Images And Words" some time ago and will get "Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence" for Christmas. "Under A Glass Moon", "The Glass Prison", "Surrounded"...There is no way to describe the wonder of such songs. John Petrucci is one of the most skilled guitarists ever, and Kevin Moore does a wonderful job with the keyboards.

Björk is good too. (Spelled with an "ö". Haha! I've got it as a key on my keyboard, while most of you have to go through copy/paste to get it in your posts!).

Hahaha wanna talk Metal? I'm the Metal Authority in these parts.

By the way, if you like Dream Theatre check out Nevermore. Songs like "Narcosynthesis".

Bands like Hypocrisy if you wanna go new and heavy.
Personally, there isn't very much good "new" rock. It's almost an oxymoron.
Try listening to Coheed And Cambria's "Everything Evil" or "JuneSong Provision".

Inflames own. Try songs like "Dark Signs" "Cloud Connected" or "The Jester Race".

Listen to Weezer for really trippy rock music, go listen to anything and everything off maladroit and pinkerton.

Now for my disturbingly heavy suggestions:

Deicide "Seprpents Of The Light"
Dimmu Borgir " Hybrid Stigmata"
Children Of Bodom "Kissing The Shadows"

and that's all for now folks.

I'll kidding aside, the band I'm into the most right now is called Streetlight Manifesto. They are ska punk band formed from some of the members of Catch 22 and One Cool Guy. Both the music and lyrics are superb. I have a hard time picking out my favorite song because there is not a bad one in the bunch. Some songs that I'd recommend are "We Are the Few," "A Better Place, A Better Time," "That'll Be the Day." Hell, listen to the whole album. I think R51 might back up my recommendation and Tommah if he has ever gotten around to listening to it.

Point taken. A lot of their music reminds me lyrics-wise of songs the Beatles would sing if they were a bit heavier. Like Apple Blossom. That is such a song that the Beatles would sing. smile.gif

I also love Billy Joel. Such a great singer/songwriter. Elton John as well, for the same reasons. I really want to go see Movin' Out on Broadway, the recent show that is based off of Billy Joel songs (sounds weird, but my cousin loved it), but I don't really have the fundage to travel to see it, let alone pay for tickets.

Hmm..how to put this lightly...ok...I love Metallica, but only Metallica from Kill Em All until Load. Load itself was a boarderline DECENT album. Reload was trash, and St. Anger is just a cd full of selling out and total crap. ...And Justice For All wasn't THAT great either, but still OK. Kill Em All was the beginning of a metal revolution, throwing metal away from the Dungeons and Dragons theme that was plaguing it, and Master Of Puppets + The Black Album = Just insanely well done. Metallica however, is NOT that extremely great a band IMO.

If anything, check out Pantera or Slayer, those two bands have until recently when pantera broke up, been making kick ass cd after kick ass cd non stop. NON STOP.

I'm sure you know of System Of A Down, but I recommend anything of their first, self titled album. It's just so hyper and bouncy yet heavy.

and Dream Theatre isn't that great by the way, I mean, how long can you stretch one single song before it gets boring? They're ok, but I mean every song is 12 minutes or longer, and I can't take too many very long songs. A few is fine, but EVERY SONG is just overdoing it.

Sure there is. WHITE ZOMBIE. Nah I'm kidding. I love zombie too. thumbup.gif
He's been pushing out pyschotic album after pyscotic album since 1985. Good Ol Zombie. The Past,Present,Future album that just came out is great.

Powerman 5000 resembles Zombie's style quite a bit, since Spyder and Rob are brothers and all. Ah well family issues ey?

The band has officially called it quits. I knew of the speculation, but hoped it was false... and I heard today that Dean DaLeo had confirmed that STP was no more. It completely ruined my day as STP is one of my favorite bands, far more than just a Pearl Jam knockoff as they were perceived when they debuted back in 92. This is the band that gave us wholesome sounding rock cuts like "Plush", "Big Empty", "Days of the Week", "Still Remains", "Trippin on a Hole in a Paper Heart"... emotional tracks like "Creep", "Interstate Love Song", "Wonderful"... and rockin loud grunge-tastic power-songs like "Sex Type Thing", "Crackerman", "unglued", "Transmissions from a Lonely Room", "Hollywood Bitch". They will be missed for their uniqueness and superb song writing. As a tribute, I came home and listened to all of my STP cds...
