As everyone knows, Tidus & co lose a good friend on the beaches. As less-casual players know, Final Fantasy X puts the decision completely in the hand of the player. Here's how it works:
--Don't speak to Gatta -- Gatta stays back as ordered; Gatta lives, Luzzu dies. --Tell Gatta to hold his post -- Gatta stays back as ordered; Gatta lives, Luzzu dies. --Tell Gatta he belongs on the front lines -- Gatta committee insubordination and fights on the beach; Gatta dies, Luzzu lives. What did you do? Or, if you've played the game twice, which do you prefer? I've heard arguments in favor of either side: some say that the technically comoletionist move is to tell Gatta he belongs on the front lines (leading to his own death and Luzzu's survival), because this is contrary to the default result (not speaking to Gatta, thus letting Luzzu die) and thus constitutes a player action. I've also heard his outcome favored precisely because it is the intended result. I've tried both outcomes but I think I prefer having Luzzu die. I think Gatta's reaction is better for the story although both reactions are pretty sad.
That and I can't really bring myself to kill Gatta, it just seems too mean. At least with Luzzu you can kind of justify it with what happened between him, Chappu and Wakka. |
