I've never really asked this question of CoN members before, because until recently it wasn't really that big of a question. But I see in my job every day the way the market is changing, and I'm curious to see if CoN follows the same trends. So, how do you visit CoN most frequently? Or, do you visit differently at different times, like a laptop for the forums but a tablet when you need a walkthrough? What devices specifically do you use, especially for mobile and tablet use?
I feel like I'm a weirdo because I am almost always on a desktop when I visit, probably 75% of the time, with another 15% on a laptop and the rest from my iPhone. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

99% of the time on a laptop, and rarely on a desktop because it would be something at the library or such. Am not a mobile device user, and I own no consoles that have browsers.

At home, my desktop. At work, my phone. Overwhelmingly prefer NOT to check forums or informative sites on my phone, so there you go.

I've been accessing CoN from my PSP. It works pretty well. One thing that doesn't work is the boss fight strategies on FF6 - I get the button for "Expand Full Strategy", but clicking that link does nothing. Also, the site skin on the forums is rather messed up, but I can still read the forums fine from my PSP.

Laptops are my favorite device, so that. Tablet if it is all that is available. I do not own a smartphone, so I can basically forget viewing forums on a cell.

I keep reading this and almost replying, then not.
I currently use my laptop for all my computering needs. Until recently I had a desktop but it pretty much died. I also have a smartphone, but I wouldn't use a site like CoN unless there was specifically a mobile version of the site, which I don't see coming too soon. Scrolling back and forth on my phone just to read one post gets old quickly. -------------------- Squenix games completed: FFIII FFIV FFVI FFVII FFIX FFX FF Tactics: Advance 2 Chrono Trigger Dragon Quest 8 Dragon Quest 11 Super Mario RPG |

^^
I've done the same. I voted, but never posted. I pretty much exclusively use a desktop for all of my computing purposes unless I'm using somebody else's stuff. While I find the mobility of a laptop quite useful, I could never have a laptop as my only PC. This means unless I have a really nice desktop and enough expendable cash to buy a laptop on top of it... yeah. |

When I'm visiting the forums, it's always via laptop; it's just much easier to respond with a full keyboard.
When I'm playing one of the titles we cover and need to look something up real quick (say, a boss battle), I tend to just use my phone. If it's something of a checklist nature (say, getting all the blue magic in FFVI) then I usually will use the phone as well, so that I can figure out what I need to do next with a glance, and then repeat. But if I'm entering a tough area and want to get a bit more detailed information on what's ahead (say, the Northern Crater in FFVII), I'll bring it up on the laptop, so that I can take in the larger volume of information and follow additional links as necessary. So basically, my usage fluctuates based on how I use the content, between the only two means of access that I possess. -------------------- Currently Playing : Final Fantasy V Most Recently Beat : Elder Scrolls: Skyrim Favorite Game : Final Fantasy X The newest CoNcast is up! Just a desktop PC for me. The site runs well but I wish the forums were more active.

Quote (Electricbassguy @ 14th September 2014 23:02) The site runs well but I wish the forums were more active. Good time for me to hop back into this thread. A further question, for those of you who have phones and tablets, do you not use CoN on those devices because you don't like the site on those devices or just because you don't need to? And, with regards to the quoted post above, I might as well respond to that a bit while I'm here. Obviously I wish the forums were more active as well! I've talked a little bit about this phenomenon in the past in some forum threads like http://www.cavesofnarshe.com/forums/ipb/in...showtopic=13610 and http://www.cavesofnarshe.com/forums/ipb/in...showtopic=14939 And additionally in the first episode of the CoNcast: http://www.cavesofnarshe.com/news/article/...p-in-your-ears/ Succinctly put: the pace of the forums, the chat, and everything community-based relies on all of us who read this. Social media currently hurts us much more than it helps, and if there's anything any of you can do to help with that, please let us know! -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |
