WARNING - by the nature of this topic, there may be spoilers within the thread and via the link for any films that you have not yet seen!
I recently read this article at Den Of Geek, and notwithstanding the rather dubious entry of Ghost, it seemed quite on the money for me. Which got me thinking - does this list hold true for most people? What other films would you add to the list, and why? For me, Gladiator would definitely have to be added, for the climactic scene - "Home Again". Gets me every single time. Although that's partly self-inflicted as we used the music during my father's funeral. I have a tendency to tear up when watching Watchmen, in no small part due to Jackie Earle Haley's performance.
Similarily, The World's End tugged at my heartstrings by means of Simon Pegg's excellent delivery. Lilo and Stitch also does this to me, which is funny, when you think that when I was watching it for the first time my entire reaction to it could've been summed up as "Heh, funny aliens". -------------------- "I fell off the mountain of words at around the 10,000ft mark. I may not like to admit it, but there are many movies that have this sort of effect on me.
Most recently, I rewatched Up. The article linked in the first post says it all. Similarly, Wreck-it Ralph stands out in my mind. It was a great movie with some fun nostalgia moments, and man, did I ever feel it at the end. Of course, I'm a huge fan of Doctor Who, so it should come as no surprise that the show has this effect on me sometimes. In particular, though, I really enjoyed the Doctor Who take on A Christmas Carol. It makes me feel a good kind of sad. Well, so do the others on this list. I won't get into any bad kind of sad stuff. |

The first ten minutes are brutal, and I can't wait to watch it with my wife sometime now that she's figured out by way of our daughter that Pixar movies are awesome. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

*cue Dos Aquis meme*
I don't often cry during movies, but when I do, it's often for extremely odd reasons. Armageddon didn't make me cry, but Marley and Me did. Neverending Story and the Swamp of Sadness got the best of me recently. Toy Story 3 also had me going. These were all pretty recent. -------------------- "So, are you a fan of the Fett?" "Nah, I'm more of a Star Wars guy." |

Chevleclair - I wouldn't say any of those are that odd!
It's fair to say that any film which involves the death of a loyal animal is going to have an odds-on chance of prompting those strong, manly tears... As for Toy Story 3, I'd agree with that too - the climactic scene where they're all accepting their apparent fate...sniff. As for Up, well, as said, the article I linked pretty much nails it. I hadn't seen it for a long time after release; and despite all of my friends saying how tear-jerking the beginning was, I had thought "how bad can it be?". The answer, as we all know, is utterly brutal! I remember completely welling up and contacting my other half to tell her how much I loved her and never to watch Up (she hadn't seen it either) without me there! -------------------- We apologise for the inconvenience |

Oh yeah, the opening of Up gets me every single time as well. That's like Grave of the Fireflies level brutal.

Oh man, don't get me started on Toy Story. I wasn't even ten yet when the first one came out, and yet seeing it is still a major memory from my childhood. As a whole, I'd say the series is great, and the end of the third movie is, well, almost on par with Up for the level of into your chest and grab at those heartstrings. Edit: On a sidenote, Toy Story 3 actually has the highest rating of the three on IMDB. This post has been edited by Suunok on 28th February 2014 06:49 |

Toy Story 3 is definitely one among many for me. It was that scene, when Andy is playing with them for the last time. UGH. Tearing up all over the place. Um, my list is pretty big. Basically any touching moments between father and child gets me, likely due to childhood history reasons. How to Train Your Dragon when Hiccup is saved by Toothless as his dad's like, "You done good" and such? EVERY. TIME. GUH! Mufasa dying? UGH! Greatest Game Ever Played? YUP. Also, Seven Pounds. I weep like a hungry, angry baby at that. The Notebook, My Neightbour Totoro, Tangled, Gladiator, Cinderella Man, even Avatar (somehow. It was nature decided to 'listen' and fight back. It was pretty inspiring. The music helped.) Yeah. I'm pretty emotive with films, especially when good music carries that emotion further. Which is frustrating as an actor, since I have a hard time accessing it on my own, and I'm not really in a position on set to be like, "Hey, guys. Give me, like, 75 mins. to watch All Dogs Go to Heaven and I'll be ready for this next scene, okay? Okay." -------------------- Games on the Go Final Fantasy VII Final Fantasy: Four Warriors of Light Baldur's Gate Too much to play, so little time! Greg |
