It's been a while since we saw a full-on CoNcast, especially with a full crew of folks, especially with three of the original casters! To pick up for the new year, Death Penalty, laszlow, Stiltzkin and I got together on the line to talk about what this year will mean for gaming and for what we're looking in the next twelve months.

While there are no brand-new systems coming this year, there certainly are a lot of triple-A games on deck for all the consoles and handhelds, and given the diversity of the group, we spend some time talking about a lot of them. If you're looking for more opinions on upcoming Squenix games, or even Nintendo, you're in the right place. For other stuff, there's some of that too, I guess!

Three games I neglected to mention in the CoNcast, but would have if we had more time:

Cosmic Star Heroine

My favorite indie studio, Zeboyd Games, is outdoing themselves with this espionage-themed sci-fi RPG, starring a master spy named Alyssa who is forced into retirement when her identity is revealed to the world, making her a heroine to some and a deadly enemy to others. I love Zeboyd's oldschool design sensibilities and interesting twists on RPG characters and turn-based combat, so of course I'm looking forward to their Next Big Thing.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter

The first TitS is probably the best RPG on the PSP and it ends on a cliffhanger! So of course I'm anticipating this one a great deal. The first TitS gets a Steam release sometime soon, and 2nd Chapter gets a simultaneous release on PSN and Steam this fall. Only took 8 years between release dates in Japan and the west.

Professor Layton Vs. Phoenix Wright

Look, these are the two premier adventure titles on the DS and 3DS, and they're clashing over a mystery involving an evil narrator and witch trials. I'm all in.

EDIT: it's Patrick Warburton, Josh. That's Kronk. We done ****ed up.

Games I'm looking forward to seeing released this year:
* The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky, the First Chapter
* The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky, the Second Chapter
* Shovel Knight
* Legend of Iya
* Project Phoenix (2015?)
* Okkotos
* Helen's Mysterious Castle
* Chasm
* Territoire (2015, probably...or "whenever it's done")

Hmm, I'm surprised I had something to put here. Heh.

Note that this doesn't include the games I haven't bought but are already out and I'm interested in (such as Valdis Story). Which brings me to my next topic.

> too many games haven't played yet

I started dealing with this by making a list of all the games I feel I really want, and only buying those games when they go on deep discounts.

Also, not doing things like browsing digital game stores or giving every game in a bundle it's trailer-watching due or stuff like that.

> Nintendo

Speaking of these game-making folks...it's kinda odd these days. I feel a pretty intense loyalty to them but that loyalty has not translated to any system or game purchases of their products (except for a few used purchases) since about 2000. I'd like to get a Nintendo system but I just feel it's too expensive so I just stick with getting PC games.

...specifically PC games that are frequently the kind of game that would be on Nintendo systems anyway, funnily enough.

It's still very, very early to make a prediction like this, but I think I might end up gravitating toward Playism, because they seem to specialize in retro-style indie games and games with animesque art, and both are things I'm into.

> remastered soundtrack options

I know Ys I (and I think Ys II) have this feature, and I'm itching to try it out.

> "It's great! You should play it!"

Ehh, I've stopped saying this to anyone. It's because people's tastes in games vary wildly (and widely) from person to person. I generally try to say exactly what it is that I like in a game, and if anything I'll try to figure out what it is that person likes, and relate the game in question to their likes...or just conclude they'll probably never like it.

(Not a criticism against you or anything; just a comment on this because people do this all the time.)
