Wow, I just have to say that I really enjoy being on this site. I like how everyone is so good-natured and intelligent, no trolling or noobing. I like being able to just blurt out what I think about video games without everyone being like, "What the heck are you talking about?" I like how we gently poke fun at idiots, and rarely have to worry about offending each other. (Although, heh heh, last night I dreamt that R51 edited like every single one of my posts... It was a funny dream in retrospect). It is refreshing to converse with others of my ilk without also having to listen to people brag about how much they pay for their sushi and rave about Homestuck.
So... yeah? What do y'all like best about the Caves? (and yes I am Texan) |

That and the subject matter of the boards of course; it's something I enjoy talking about and it's good to be able to talk about it with other people that feel the same. |

I like that this place gets people to write contentful, well-written posts, even in disagreement over serious issues. If only I knew the magic secret behind this and could export this to other web communities.

I like that there's still teenagers signing up to post and join the community. (See: OP).
It keeps us old folks from becoming too crumudgeonly, and gives us a bit of hope for the next generation. Other than that, the CoN is great because, yeah, the banhammer wielding mods of great justice know what they're doing, what sort of behavior to promote, and how to be snarky enough in their mod edits to shame people without somehow going over the top with it. -------------------- If you've been mod-o-fied, It's an illusion, and you're in-between. I've never had a security issue on this site, while the other ff site got hacked. The site also is handled in such a way that it can maintain its own.
I also never had problems with people, and that is always a plus. I do wish though that ranger51 would add an extra thread and relabel everything so you have one place for spin offs and non ff area. The site goes up to ff7 and has been like that a long time. There is only so much you can say about ff1-7.I'd like to hear people's thoughts on the other non ff squeenix games. -------------------- We are stardust. Our bodies are made from the guts of exploding stars. I like the fact that it's fairly relaxed, and that the sense of humour is generally similar across the board. It's not really all that clique-y either, which I think helps keep new users trickling in.

You know, I never really think about it but CoN doesn't have a troll the noobs problem. I've been around other sites long enough that some of the oldtimers become a problem and like to troll (boredom?). I'd like to think it's because this is a quality site that attracts quality forum users

It funny how by trolling noobs, the troll in question becomes himself a noob. It is excruciating to analyze.
I really think that it is mainly because the moderators know what they are about. They just do not take any stupidity. It proves that people really can be intelligent, if it is expected of them. |

My favorite part of the site is the design. It is efficient, pleasant to the eye and operates fast on my slow connection. It was clearly crafted to be an inclusive kind of site.

I have to agree, there's a level of maturity and good conversation of this forum that keeps me coming back. The conversation is intelligent and yeah okay, we're not all THAT mature( but that keeps it fun right?) and no one is ever very judgemental of anyone else; which is funny because I have been known to be the 'queen of judgment' at times. x3 I absolutely love the fact that everyone here has something unique to bring to every conversation, a different outlook expressed in a reasonable manner and we all have a tendency to agree to disagree, which is getting very rare these days, it seems.
I also love the good moderation being kept around here as it keeps the forum running smoothly, having mods that are unafraid to take control is very comforting in an odd way and oddly also inspires us to be very civil as well as draw more civil people that have more unique opinions, and more things to add to the conversation here to join us. The wide spread of topics here keeps me coming back, one minute we can be talking about gaming and the next something entirely unrelated while switching back and forth very easily. I like that in people. I watched the site for years, about 5 to be honest, and am glad I finally decided to join. You've all been so welcoming to my oddities and I that I've been left a little stunned. It's very good to find polite people on the internet who don't scream at each other about how much better their favorite game is than anyone else's might be. (Could go on talking forever, honestly) What also catches my eye is that it looks like every fanart, no matter the skill involved seems to be included and I adore it. Watching people improve at something they love to do is very inspiring to me and keeps me going with my own odd little projects. *Stuffs her cosplay in the corner and tells it to shush up.* You're also all just so wonderful to talk to or even 'listen' (text and all) to even if I don't join in on the conversation. I love you guys! Also, Raven, I swear I'm the only person in Texas who doesn't say 'y'all'. It will be a fight, but one day I will convert to this manner of speech. Tooth and nail I tell you, tooth and nail! xD -------------------- I'm your Mama Terra, come hang out with me around the internet! Retro gaming cosplayer with a focus on Terra Branford. |

Quote (St Khael @ 12th October 2013 16:08) . . . we all have a tendency to agree to disagree, which is getting very rare these days, it seems. Yes, I have to say, this site taught me a lot about opinion. I used to think, at least subconsciously, that there really were not opinions; only facts: and if your opinion did not agree with mine it was because you had poor discernment. Actually, to be honest, I thought too that if my opinion did not agree with that of at least one of my family members I was just not seeing things right. I am in an extremely intellectual family, so we have a tendency to think we know everything. I really think this website was largely responsible for helping me realize that people really can think completely differently without anyone being wrong. Quote (St Khael @ 12th October 2013 16:08) Also, Raven, I swear I'm the only person in Texas who doesn't say 'y'all'. It will be a fight, but one day I will convert to this manner of speech. Tooth and nail I tell you, tooth and nail! xD Heh heh heh, yeah, I did not used to say it either; but I have fallen into temptation at last. Alas! |

I love CoN because the people here and this place sort of reflects my past. Do I have many memories here? No. However, this place and it's people puts me back into my childhood.
When I was in seventh grade I met most of the people here on the FINAL FANTASY III AOL Message board. When I was in High School I found you all again. My sig is technically the same sig from way back from 2001. CoN has never been insanely popular but then again it has not faded with a graveyard of a message board as most Final Fantasy forums that still survived have turned into. To me CoN is a landmark. Just like those old timers who remember that old candy store I remember CoN. -------------------- His Divine Shadow |

Oh, hey, a post for my ego! I love those!
I tend to use various CoNniversary messages for this sort of thing, so I'm going to be lazy and link to some of them. http://www.cavesofnarshe.com/news/article/...she-at-fifteen/ http://www.cavesofnarshe.com/news/article/...y-twelfth-2009/ http://www.cavesofnarshe.com/news/article/...ath-of-1-april/ http://www.cavesofnarshe.com/news/article/...s-old-not-typo/ So here are some replies to be less lazy in general. Quote (RavenLalonde) Was I handsome in the dream? I feel like I should have been dashing. (Although, heh heh, last night I dreamt that R51 edited like every single one of my posts... If only I knew the magic secret behind this and could export this to other web communities. Quote (Galsic) I'd like to think that this is true, but I think it's more that we've shown both search engines and users that we haven't abandoned the site by way of trying to keep things at least a little fresh. It's nice to see that kind of dedication from him, along with everyone else involved, for a small part of the internet that even I've been frequenting for several years now. I just happened to come across this thread about someone who seemed to want to start a fight and talk about a site war and all that. http://www.cavesofnarshe.com/forums/ipb/in...&hl=getting+old Difference between CoN and other sites like that guys is if you click on the link to his site it's a dead link or a twitter feed that hasn't been updated in years. CoN has always been to me the little engine that could. Even back in the 90s when Yahoo was king and it was surrounded by bigger Final Fantasy fan sites this site has outlasted the grand majority of them and has maintained a steady stream of talkative members.
