Recently, I got the urge to do another playthrough of FF6. However, I want to play it with my fiance, who is a big fan of the fantasy genre but not a big video game player. I think she'll really enjoy the story.
The easiest way for me to get the game is to download it on PSN. However, that is the PS1 version from Anthology. The SNES version had a feature where you could assign certain members of your party to controller 1 or controller 2. I'm not sure if the PS1 version has this feature. Could someone let me know? Because the whole point of getting the game is to play it with my girl. ![]() |

Do believe it does, but I'll check...
Wiki Page for it It says the original US release of the program had this feature, but the release included Final Fantasy V as well. I'd say go for it...I'm betting it does. -------------------- X is blue. |

I might be able to be of some assistance since I've been playing the Anthology version.
I did see the option for adding another controller in the game menu. Though I myself have never tested it out in person. Reason being I ported it from the PS1 disc to the PSP therefore lack of extra controller function. I too have been trying to get my significant other to play and up until yesterday had very little success WOOT! Here's the FF VI multiplayer rundown It would be an awesome experience for you two to play together. The only time you could do so cooperatively is when battling, but the battles are a pretty small portion of what to be experiencing in the game. In the option menu you can assign different characters to either controller. I.E. (gau+terra=controller1/locke+shadow=controller2) As you know in the game you can only attack one at a time, So as multiplayer games usually come the functions of this one are quite limited. Are you just trying to get her familiar with the battling system so she can play through herself? Perhaps you will just enjoy playing with eachother taking turns and watching the story progress in eachothers arms ![]() As a final warning if you are expecting some type of secret of mana co-op system I'm afraid you will be duely dissapointed. ![]() -------------------- I prefer the term "treasure hunting"! |

Thanks to both of you! That was very helpful. It looks like the PS1 version does allow two players, although I'm reading there are a bunch of other things wrong with the PS1 version (like load times) that might make me want to skip it.
@ReverendXIII, My main goal is to have her experience the cinematics - story, music, etc. I'll do most of the walking around towns and explaining things to her as I go, I just want her to be able to have some control over the characters during the battle so she's not just watching me play. And if she decides that she wants to control the walking around and stuff, then I'll defer to her. ![]() |

Note: I posted this yesterday in the wrong thread somehow? By now it's pretty moot, and out of the discussion.
This is a fantastic question, because I always wondered. FFIV also had a feature that allowed control for the second controller, and I can't remember if it carried over to the PS... but I think it did, iirc, when I played it awhile back. So, let us know! -------------------- If you've been mod-o-fied, It's an illusion, and you're in-between. You're going to be having a lot of discussions during battle like:
"Would you use a potion on [character] please?" "Ok...where are the potions?" "Should be right at the top of the item list." If she's not experienced playing this game, and beyond that has never played it with someone, then she'll need to be told how to play. Does she know how? I was curious. -------------------- X is blue. |

Okay, so you are telling me that the game had this feature all along and I never knew it? How do I use it exactly?

In VI you assign the controls to X or Y character. In IV either controller works for everything, so you just choose who controls what, and just play it. -------------------- If you've been mod-o-fied, It's an illusion, and you're in-between.
