I'd actually completely forgotten that it was coming out in November, but it is out now. Did anyone get one? Normally, I wouldn't really care that much, but it looks like I won one on Black Friday this year (not sure I'll believe it until I actually have it in hand, which they say might be six weeks). If anyone got one, will it be worth me having it, or should I think about cashing it in once I get it?

I didn't... I'll be honest, right now it doesn't look that interesting to me :/ I'll probably try to get one for Christmas though. I'm kind of disappointed in myself, seeing as how I hyped the Wii so much when it was new...

I kept hoping there would be another topic about someone getting their hands on a WiiU but there weren't any. I thought about starting one myself but wasn't sure how much the members of CON cared about the WiiU. My brother actually got a hold of a deluxe set at a Walmart in the podunk town my mom lives in. They had 2, I unfortunately did not have enough money to buy the second one. However, I did get to play with my brother's a bit. I played a bit of a Tank Tank Tank! which was pretty fun. It's a port of an arcade tank game where you basically drive around and pick up ammo and try to kill giant robots wrecking havoc around cities. I also got to try Nintendoland which had some pretty fun mini games, in particular, a mini game where one player is a ghost in a haunted mansion and looks at the screen on the touchpad controller and the other player has a flash light and you can't see the ghost player on the TV screen and you have to find it and shine your flashlight on it. It seems to be themed after Luigi's mansion, though I have never played the game. I also got my hands on the new Mario game and it's amazing. It looks beautiful, you've never seen Mario until you've seen him like that.

Now for the downsides, it was quite disappointing when two of the mini games on Nintendoland upon trying to play them locked up my brother's WiiU and caused a buzzing noise, of which the only mode of escape was dangerously unplugging the WiiU. My brother was also unable to get Netflix to work properly on his WiiU (and he's no electronics idiot) and Netflix has yet to put up a trouble-shooting section for streaming on the WiiU.

Other than the above things, I was quite impressed and feel the WiiU definitely has potential to be a good system, particularly because the main focus does not seem like it will be motion control. None of the games I played required motion control. And that makes me very happy. And keep in mind that this is the opinion of an non-Nintendo Fanboy (girl?). I was not a huge fan of the N64 or the Wii, so I was truly impressed with the system and hope I can get my hands on my own some time next year.

It has some neat-looking games, but after the Wii's prolonged inferiority to the 360 and PS3 and the Wii U's totally uninspiring launch lineup*, I'm less interested in the Wii U than ever. I'd sooner pick up a PS Vita.

*ZombiU looks neat, and New Super Mario Brothers Wii U looks okay, but I'm totally burned out on NSMB material. I'm still 100% uninterested in getting one of the machines.

Well, I'd sooner buy one of these than the Xbox 720 and the whatever new Playstation comes out. Nintendo's system needed an upgrade, I still feel plenty can be done with the PS3 and the Xbox 360. I know time-wise they've been out for a while but I just feel like there can't possibly be enough of a difference between those two current systems and the next ones to make buying a new system worth it, even in a year which is when IGN said the Xbox 720 would come out.

I feel like we're closing the gap on true next gen jumps in gaming. It's not going to be noticeable anymore like it was going from PS1-PS3. Or NES to WiiU or Xbox to Xbox 360.

Now that the Wii U is out, will there be more people selling their Wiis used?

And if so, will there be any problems if I want to try to buy WiiWare stuff, or should I stick with playing GC and Wii disc games?

This is more or less my opinion; I'm just uninspired by the current lineup of games. There are a couple that grab me (Luigi's Mansino heart.gif), but Nintendo games play through quickly enough that there would need to be a handful of this level of interest in order for me to want to buy one. Ultimately, I would prefer the next system FF endorses (such limited qualifications reflect my lack of time and monies), but if I pretend to be my highschool self, who possessed such resources, I would need to wait a year or two to see the lineup develop before I would even consider purchasing.

Also, I wonder if WiiU will be as family-successful as the Wii, given its somewhat odd controller scheme.

The control scheme is different but I don't really see that as a problem. Not every player will have the touchscreen controller. In fact as of right now, only one player will have that touch screen controller. The Wii motes that you already own are fully compatible with the system so the same controller functionality from the Wii is there, there is now just more emphasis on traditional controller usings evidence by the touch screen controller, sideways wii mote use, and a new regular controller (kind of like the classic controller) available. I see it being just as family friendly as before.

I should have phrased myself better (though some of what you've just said is new to me). I was trying to say that, without all the emphasis on motion and such that was present with the Wii, it may not appeal . I think any system could be enjoyed by a family, really, the difference was that Nintendo undertook marketing to make it appeal families at large based on the whole motion-motion-motion-MOTION idea. Nintendo may very well still pursue the family-targeted route and do so successfully, they'd just have to take a different angle at it.

Ok, well the motion is still there. I believe the touchscreen remote has motion functionality and the wii motes had motion functionality within Nintendoland, so the ability is still there, it will all depend on how they decide to use it. I know Wii Fit U or WiiU Fit or some iteration like that is slated to come to the system. I think there is more of a chance that the motion v.s. traditional would be more balanced and actually appeal better. I would hope I wasn't the only person or family that was sick of the Wii being at minimum 95% motion.

Can I mention the worst downside of all? The Nintendo store. Or stores. Because the Wii U, Wii, and 3DS each have separate DLC storefronts with separate user names, separate accounts, and even separate wallets. The three entities can't communicate with one another; if you want to download a Wii Virtual Console game on a Wii U, you have to switch it to Wii mode and handle it separately, from purchase to play. There's also the fact that the mandatory system updates for the Wii U are allegedly as slow and awful as anything Sony or Microsoft's ever done.

And look, it might seem like I'm just ****ting all over the Wii U, but I don't want to be. I mean, I did buy a Wii right around a year ago. I am tempted more every day by the 3DS and its growing selection of games. I want the Wii U to be good enough for me to want to pick it up, but right now it isn't. I'll be back waving my Nintendo fan flag once the system's library picks up.

The relation between the Wii store and the Wii U store I can't speak for, but I did see something, apologize for not having the link to it, that was combining digital currency cards between the 3DS and the WiiU.

System updates suck, there's no doubt about that, and it was a long download, HOWEVER, downloads eventually end and games get played. I'm not saying it's a perfect or really all that acceptable of a system but eventually we have to get over it and just play and enjoy it.

I decided to keep my Wii U. I did it mostly because I always like to have more Netflix boxes around, since I'm hoping to start finishing the basement in my house in the near future and I will need something that pipes Netflix down there if I do. I have no games other than the thirty-cent Balloon Fight Virtual Console release that I got last week, but I will say that it feels really, really neat to be controlling the thing with the massive pad and touchscreen. It's even more neat to be able to flip the Netflix (or, most anything) viewing directly to the pad's touchscreen for a sort of tablet viewing experience. Comes in very handy when my daughter wants to watch Curious George and the iPad and TV are already in use.

It's still not something I would go out and buy on my own, same as I never did the original Wii. But it's a clever little device, for sure.

Oh, and the system update that everyone was up in arms about took me about 90 minutes to download and install, total. I'm sure that it was much worse when it was release week, due to server load, but I wasn't even worried about it. I've spent longer than 90 minutes getting Windows Update to work properly in the past.

I love my Wii U! I got it on launch and have used it pretty much every day since. I love the New Super Mario Bros. U, and if I am not playing a game I prefer the Netflix on the Wii U to the other consoles.

I picked one up with my tax return. It does seem rather lacking but I'm happy with it. It's always tricky to get a console at launch because no one really seems to launch consoles with quite as much gusto as they did in the old days. I think of it as insurance. When the library starts to explode I won't be sitting there wishing I had one while not having enough money for one.

I plan to get one once my finances can account for it and once they work out their initial first-gen kinks with it. The line-up will get more exciting, for sure, and I'm really hoping a StarFox will hit this console, finally.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't the 3DS e-shop and WiiU e-shop supposed to be connected?

I actually got one during Christmas, although I forgot to post here. I've basically only played Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper and Tekken Tag 2 on it, not that many other games that interest me :/

I literally just bought one. Seems the Xbox One reveal did compel me to buy a new product!

I've wanted one ever since word of Earthbound came along though. It looks like there's lots of other cool stuff you can do with it and I haven't played a lot of recent Nintendo titles so I'm looking forward to diving into New Super Mario Bros U
