So there I was happily finishing my coursework late at night at my desk with just a little lamp on. For that hour I'd been listening to the FFVIII soundtrack, when suddenly this tune came on. Not for the faint of heart.

Got me thinking, what are the other scary pieces of music you've come across in games?

Sweetdude that's reminiscent of the evil Isengard themes from LOTR.

We'll start with Silent hill 2 (they're pretty short).

Silent Heaven - you may not consider this to be music, but I do.. dem bass notes! I believe it plays in a room with no enemies, just a clock based puzzle but the music intensifies with later returns to the room.

Fermata in Mystic Air - More creepy than scary.

Return - Nurses. This bgm scared the life out of me.

Resident Evil GC remake!

Pokemon RBY - Lavender Town.

Goodness, Sweets, that's even scarier than some of the other scary sorcerer songs from that game. And that's saying something!

Wow all of these are brilliant. I hadn't thought twice about Pokemon for scary music vividesu. The songs in the games I haven't played through properly like SoM, Metroid and DK are pretty freaky indeed. Also DP, Blinge, I'm glad you appreciate that FFVIII tune! Also also DP, that FFVII tune had me shaking when I heard it in the Shinra Mansion. Unsettling.

I've got some more. Speaking of Resident Evil, I found the Nemesis music scary in a kind of oppressively shocking way. Maybe it's just memories of those moment in the game. That drum's like a heart attack...

From Parasite Eve 2, when things start to get dark: PE2.

Familiar to anyone who's played Amnesia, even if you don't notice it. A point in the game when I really started to appreciate the writing and the story was a loading screen where it was describing a man falling off a ship into the sea, just before a water level, and the music changed to this: Amnesia.

I've don't remember having ever heard that whole song because I always just walked back into the entrance of that level, which teleports you to just before the end. That level is horrifying.

If that's just before the infamous water section I remember yeah.. Jeez that part..
I remember there's really peaceful music afterwards with some stringed instrument..made such a beautiful contrast.

There are so many creepy tracks in video games that I don't even know where to start, I must say.
Such a great game, truly.

For my money, nothing has ever made me jump or panic more than this track: Noooooo!!!!!

Edit: Also, what's creepier than the Lavender Town Theme? The Lavender Town Theme Backwards.
