What happened to Arvis, Banon and the others who disappeared after the world went under? I've been wondering forever but never bothered to ask. My guess is that they
A. got killed by the empire
B. Got killed by Kefka somwhere between the world going wacko and Celes waking up.
C. Banon and Arvis got eloped. You know how Arvis loves the grizzly bear type, especially concidering how Banon is a loving healer and all. wub.gif

I'd guess that they were killed. Narshe was pretty much reduced to an unlivable condition, and if that didn't finish them off, they probably moved elsewhere. I don't assume that the NPCs who wander the towns represent all of the living people in the world. But I think the tone of the WoR is sufficiently dark that it's safe to assume that at least someone died.

They were in Vector I think when the world changed so maybe they were the ones Cid was talking about when he said many of the survivers died of boardom and sickness.

The game does a good job of making you bump into most of the WoB characters in the WoR in order to show how they've made out (and bring up interesting stories). Based on that I figure Banon and Arvis are probably dead.

I believe (or would like to believe) that both Arvis and Banon were still alive in the WoR. Perhaps they were at Returners Hideout which was at a different location in WoR. Who knows if they were alive or dead, but it is these mysterious that make the FF games one of the greatest of all time

I kind of like to think the opposite. Kefka won, the Returners lost. The cost was the members' lives.
Evil won, but Good was able to resurrect in another form and ultimately conquer it.

Most likely were killed when the world was undone. Vector sank to the bottom of the sea so thats where they most likely ended up.

Vector sank to the bottom of the sea? I thought it was disintegrated into rubble but the rubble re-formed itself into Kefka's tower.

Well not all of it would have just the useful parts like the machinery would become part of Kefka's tower I would imagine.

on one website i had visited, someone suggested that bannon was duncan. this explains why you don't see duncan in WOB and don't see bannon in WOR, and vice-versa.
personally, i just think that their character sprites looked similar.

That really couldn't be the case, cause when you meet Duncan in the WoR, Sabin is completely overjoyed to learn that his master hadn't died, as he thought he had. Given that, if Banon were Ducan, why did Sabin say nothing when he met with him at the returners hideout in the WoB?

As for Banon and Arvis, I like DP's theory, sorta gives the story more depth, makes it more inovative, cause everything DOESN'T turn out alright (to me anyway). But just cause you don't meet them doesn't mean they aren't there, I mean, if the people you meet in the towns etc. are the entire population of the world... well, that's a pretty shallow gene pool wink.gif

Oh, and the sprites aren't similar, they're the same, just different palettes tongue.gif
