After seeing this article, I figured I'd ask the same to you fine folks. What would the pricetag have to be in order to get you to buy a PS4? Or the still-fresh Wii-U? Or, slightly more speculatively, the new Xbox?
As for my own thoughts, I'm fairly skewed, being someone who, when it comes to new games, mostly plays only RPGs, particularly those by Square Enix, with the addition of one or two other titles that strike me. As such, Playstation is still what does it for me; any other system would have to do a whole lot of convincing. Though I'll admit, there were a couple titles that made me consider a 360, and I did enjoy the few times I ended up using my brother's Wii. Now, I've got a sufficient backlog at the moment anyhow - at the least I would be interested in playing Ni no Kuni, FFXIII-2, Tales of Xillia, and Lightning Returns before looking to a new system. Even if it's a foregone conclusion that my brother and I will eventually get a PS4, I would still wait until there were a few titles to catch my eye. That said, I would still bite for a $350 pricetag. $400 would be pushing it for me, but I'd budge if there were games to back it. $350 for a Wii U seems really steep for me. Wait for a new Zelda game, Luigi's Mansion, Pikmin, and Smash Bros., though, and a Nintendo system always begins to look appealing. Unless there were a couple impressive, exclusive JRPGs for the system, though, I wouldn't touch it for anything over half of that. -------------------- Currently Playing : Final Fantasy V Most Recently Beat : Elder Scrolls: Skyrim Favorite Game : Final Fantasy X The newest CoNcast is up! There really is no magic price point that will get me to buy one of the next gen that is realistic for quite a while. I'm not some sort of huge gamer, of course, and I have plenty of games to get me through for quite a while on all the hardware I currently own.
That said, I could see myself buying one of the next gen when it can be purchased for $300 or less, since I already have a Wii U I won't be using all that much. It might be time for me to go back to Sony when that happens, as long as my 360 is still running okay by then. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

My kids are getting a Ouya. Fact is it's wi-fi and most likely will have Netflix support soon as well plus the price is just right!
My main concern when it comes to these new consoles is backwards compatibility. The fact they are telling us to buy games we already bought over again has instantly stopped me from purchasing any further digital titles over the PSN. I most likely will be holding onto the PS3 for years to come. The PS4 is doing a lot right though regardless but it will be a sit and wait strategy on whether I will buy. Fact is my PS3 can do almost everything I need and want and has become my main device for entertainment. The Xbox 360 lost me as a customer after two of my consoles broke down and nGE. Not to mention Xbox Live which charged me an extra month because someone in India forgot to cancel it. Xbox Live to me is a scam it does what the PS3 does for free. Plus every couple of years they disable you from cancelling online and force you to call in. After being billed another month I sold my and my son's Xbox 360s with both Kinects never to use MS again. Right now Microsoft even years later has left a bitter taste in my month. Look at the PS3 I can install my own laptop HDD give it as much space as I want and there we go! I doubt the PS4 will allow us to use other companies HDDs but we shall see. As a parent I cannot justify buying a next generation system for my kids because they seriously rip us off as consumers even the Wii-U. There is no magic price point for me. I don't think the Wii U is priced outrageously, I just can't afford one right now. I basically will pay whatever it is that I need to pay when I'm ready and have the money to buy the system.

I'm not some sort of huge gamer, of course, and I have plenty of games to get me through for quite a while on all the hardware I currently own. This. I was about to say, perhaps, US$10 for the XBox 720, maybe $15 for the PS4 and $20 for the WiiU. And then maybe $5 to $10 per game, on top of that. In other words, not even remotely realistic. I'm not that interested in the vast majority of newer games, and I also have a tight budget. So I'll be buying bundles of digital downloads of indie games for the foreseeable future...assuming I even get new games, considering the huge backlog I already have. In my game purchasing practices I've already shifted to being heavily conscious of the developers/publishers I'm buying from, including throwing money at ones I like by buying gift copies, while not buying games from ones I don't like even if I am kinda interested in their product.
