We've all been there, at the bottom of the abyss, getting mad over what some uninformed doucher half a world away has vomited onto the comments section of a youtube video.

Like it or not: according to some thinkers there is no right or wrong way to write, there is no book, poem, essay that is more worth reading than any other text... like a cereal packet.
Sure you disagree, I know I do, but that's not what this thread is for.. lets just run with it. We can all sit in a circle and pull through the traumatic experience that is internet free speech by posting up some good stuff, some inane stuff, some horrific bile. THIS IS THE HISTORY OF OUR SPECIES RIGHT HERE

I'll start with something positive:

Quote
The shittiest place to live in video game history is still the Mushroom Kingdom. What's that? Your entire populace got turned into inanimate objects? Well here comes a crazy Italian plumber and his brother on a rampage destroying everything, living or dead, in hopes of pillaging the gold coins from the stony corpses of your cursed and now completely obliterated family members, fighting with a turtle lizard over your ineffectual government figurehead until nothing is left.

Quote
Hey this came out on my birthday haha

wow, what a fine contribution to the annals of mankind! aren't you glad that so many people are literate?

I actually am usually entertained by youtube comments sections.

Then again this may be because I don't frequent pet animal videos (where you get ignorant jerks complaining about or suggesting animal abuse) or political videos (where the comments sections always devolve into an endless argument between partisans attacking strawmen, guaranteed).

On meme videos, you can usually ask about and maybe find out particular pieces of the video (audio or movie footage) in the comments section. Maybe someone recognizes that that song at 2:51 was done by Groove Coverage or that piece of footage at 3:16 came from the third episode of Batman: the Animated Series.

Applies to other videos too. Comments sections can be very informatively useful. Dunno which of the tons of doujin Touhou remix albums this song came from?--someone will gladly tell you, and has probably told you in response to another person's same question. Wanna know what TV show this is? Check the comments. Don't remember which episode this footage is from? Feel free to ask.

And just from reading the comments you get a sense of what kind of audience the video has drawn. You get to see how people react to a random anime image set to techno, and you get to see how people react to a random anime image set to classical music, and you get to compare the two.

Not to mention the amusing zingers and one-liners and memetic responses that people like to leave behind. These sometimes get upvoted. Well, I'm amused by them; your mileage my vary.

Just remember to gloss over the "haha" or "this is stupid" or "f*** you this sucks" comments. That said, when watching some videos (designed to be extremely strange in content and thereby confuse the f*** out of the viewers), it's also fun to watch how people react to it.

Ah Glenn you misunderstand me, this isn't a butthurt rant, people's eruptions into the net are usually hilarious and of course can be positive or helpful. The thread's idea is a repository of whatever people stumble across with as much context as they want to include.
If nobody feels like sharing or posts within a week then I guess this thread should be deleted.

bad ideas for threads man, i gotta million of 'em!

Well, let's see.

There's this one person who posts whole classical symphonies, and the picture 'ey use is usually animesque/anime-themed. There are already a number of uploaders of techno/dance/electronica who use animesque art for their video covers, but this is the only person who does it for classical music (for that, people usually use pictures of the composer, the CD cover where the recording came from, or paintings from that composer's country).

Cue arguments over whether the use of anime/animesque art is appropriate.

There's also been once where someone who normally uploads techno with animesque art video covers used a piece of furry-themed animesque art, and then there were people dissing the furry art.

A sentiment that some have expressed in response to this: "SHUT UP AND ENJOY THE MUSIC"

Well here's my $.02 - Indeed, its about the music not the picture. I don't like the way classical music is placed up on a pedestal like a historical relic, rather than something that still gets played, still influences and is still alive, in a way.
Anime is a popular style (probably) because its simplicity makes it visually appealing, why not combine the visually with the audibly appealing?

Although a non-written rule of the internet is that every song in existence ever has a fanmade AMV (anime music video) using it =^o^=

Thanks, I do LPs with my cousin Pants (even though only one is posted so far) and also sing songs. In the playlists section, you can find all my LPs so far, there are a lot on different channels with folks like Tinkidink, Bertrudor, Tarquinnff3.

This is being posted from my iPhone.

YouTube comments are typical of what the average person thinks. For those who have made a home on message boards with heavy censorship YouTube is a place to get a pulse on the real world.

Google has tried to use the Real Name feature on Google Plus to shame people and try to force on the rest of the net which had led to people stopping reviewing sites on mass and going else where. YouTube tries its best to guilt trip you on showing your real name so it will stop the bad comments because someone could find your info. The minute they force us to use our real names two things will happen.

1. People will leave and ad revenue will go down.
2. People will make fake names. Google cant ban everyone it's like Xbox Live they know they have a free speech problem with people who want censorship but if they ban all the trash talkers they will have no customers.

I find it the people who are most offended by YouTube and Xbox Live comments and trash talk are those who live in certain highly regulated forums, colleges, and other areas where a certain political idealogy is represented and all dissenting people are banned or modded till they end up leaving. So for most of these people from the Left they do not like other ways of thinking or open discussion.

Someone like myself who is a conservative on very Liberal dominated forums over the years and living in the Liberal Mecca (Chicago) I respect and don't chase off people of dissenting opinions because I can't so I learn to listen to other people even though they do not give that same respect in turn.

Uh, why would they do that? you said yourself they would risk losing profit, and google aren't gonna do that. I'm pretty sure shame isn't the objective.

Well there's two words I'd never thought I'd see together.. are non-liberals forbidden from entering the city? Is there two lanes on the road in, one for liberals and one for everyone else? heh

CoN's a highly regulated forum if I've ever seen one, and I've been here for years, yet I fail to be offended by Youtube comments. And I see lots of stupid Youtube comments from all sides of the political spectrum, along with some good ones.

Then again maybe I just don't hang out on the right videos or something; when I'm on youtube I tend to be there to listen to music, watch Youtube Poop or other meme videos, or see cute animals. I don't get my dose of political news there (though I do watch random videos embedded by others). Instead I revel in the funny zingers that are often upvoted on YTP videos.

(FYI, "Youtube Poop" is a series of memetic videos whose distinctive features are bizarre, nonsensical editing, badly-misused video effects, and manipulative editing for the sake of great lulz.)

I know I did my damage that I'm not proud of on You Tube I deleted the video but still remains the guilt of it.

Well as y'all know from some posts from my past here I've often been nieve when it come to this chuch I went to and often let them drag me back by acting like my friends and support. But I'm trangendered to and have often fliped on this cause the church made me think that they were the only ones that cared about me.

I once made a You Tube video blaming rejection from girls and media as why I am trangendered which I refered to as was but there is never a was there is I am. I sometimes think though my nieveness to the church was my feelings of wanting to be loved I had a girlfriend recently as another thread I put but things didn't work out there cause she can't love me for who I am but I finally have true friends who have gotten to know me through AIM an instant messenger I downloaded.

So I feel happy to have them as friends.
