This video shows it is actually possibly and it is a fresh video, just days old!
The one thing many of us wished for so long. We all must thank dawn!

Not only does this video explain how to achieve getting leo in your party, but it also explains why it works the way it works, quite an interesting video.

Yeah, someone - I think Narratorway - linked this in chat a week ago. Really neat! It's incredible that someone has found something new in FFVI after all these years... and equally incredible that someone has uncovered something requiring so many steps to achieve, heh. A shame they didn't use CoN as a source in this one, like they did for the Czar Dragon episode they did a couple years back!

Oh, I don't have the required java for chat. I just discovered the video from Reddit, and it re-sparked my interest in this sight and any myths from final fantasy. So I decided to join finally, and I am very happy here.

Anywhoo, I agree, it is rather amazing that the game has been out since 1994 and it took till roughly 2013 almost 20 years to figure out that this is possible. It shows just how much ingenuity some people have, and makes me sad that I don't have that.

This reminds me of the unexpected discovery of the Pokémon RBY mew glitch. Something totally unexpected, years down the road. Also, just like the mew glitch, this relies on data substitution.

Yeah, I believe pop fiction has an episode on that and they do explain it as well. I like the pop fiction episodes for that reason, if there is a glitch, they will explain why it works that way.

After seeing this video I did some digging on the forums and ZED actually posted a link to a forum describing the glitch in 06. The link he posted is unfortunately invalid but it definitely seems like this might not be new news in the world of hardcore FFVI exploiters. I'm not denying that ElephantGun might have made the discovery on his own but the method ZED outlines is definitely the one used here.

That being said you should probably read the rest of the guy's findings, they're pretty funny

I think it's remarkable how gamers have the patience and commitment to look for these things. Bravo! Never in a lifetime of lifetimes would I have found something like this.
