So, I've always been kind of curious about Dissidia, but since I had gave away my PSP a long time ago, I couldn't play it. Now that I bought a new PSP for FFIV: The Complete Collection, I can get Dissidia also, although I'm still curious about whether or not it's any good.

I don't have Duodecim yet, but in regards to the first Dissidia game, absolutely. The combat is a ton of fun, and has incredible depth in regards to customization. It's also the kind of game where the more you play it, the more reasons it gives you to play (new modes, new characters, new abilities, etc). -------------------- |

It has a nearly irresistible price tag, in my opinion - $30 for Duodecim, brand new. While there are certain advantages to the original, I see no reason to specifically get it if you have Duodecim readily available, unless you want to pick up both or can find the original at a great deal.
Dissidia, in either case, is well worth the money. The story, while simple, is at least on par with any other fighting game (and light years ahead of many), and the gameplay itself is both simple to pick up and capable of considerable complexity. There's a lot you can do, and as Insegredious says, the more you play, the more you unlock. Each character has unique traits that influence how they're played - movement speed, range of abilities, what sort of gear they can equip, and so on. I haven't played Duodecim yet, but Dissidia is absolutely worth its price of $20. Probably cheaper if you buy it used on on PSN.

get duodecim instead of dissidia 1. when you beat duodecims story, you play through dissidias, so its like both games in one, except duodecim has better mechanics, more characters, and much more stuff to do. now that duodecim is out, theres no reason to buy dissidia

I picked up my original Dissidia brand new and sealed for only 10 bucks nearly a year ago, so MUST say yes.
Dissidia 012 was an absolute waste. Such a depressing sequel. |

Uhh, it also depends on what you're wanting out of it. If you're expecting a fighting system like Mortal Kombat, then no. I found certain aspects of the combat to be frustrating and the story parts pretty cheesy. I remember being pretty frustrated with the game and having to powerlevel, which seemed weird to do in a combat game. I also would've liked to see more characters from each game. Or at least be talked about a bit more.
It is, however, interesting to experience for other reasons. I like the way they stylized the characters, the voice acting isn't terrible, and it is a pretty unique hybrid of RPG/combat. The battle arenas are cool looking, and it was interesting to see how Square thinks the characters would act together. If you're not gonna miss the money on it, I'd say go ahead. Personally, it couldn't really keep my interest more than I think four hours? I completed maybe two hero's stories and that was it. -------------------- You're telling me that there's no hope. There is no question about it. Pick either or. Although with the first Dissidia your potential for over powered attacks is higher.

Quote Quote (vividesu @ 3rd May 2011 21:47) Dissidia 012 was an absolute waste. Such a depressing sequel. May I ask why you feel that way? I might be able to hazard a guess. Dissidia is about the 13th cycle of battle between Cosmos & Chaos, and Duodecim is a chronicle of the 12th cycle, so everything that happens in the first game takes place after the events of Duodecim. Since Lightning, Kain, Tifa, Yuna, Laguna, Vaan & Prishe aren't in Dissidia, and Gilgamesh only appears as a summonstone, I'm guessing Possible spoilers: highlight to view Am I right about this, vividesu, or is it something else about the game you found depressing?they all "die" at some point in Duodecim. But getting back to the topic, I highly recommend Dissidia. It's a lot of fun, and I've gotten many hours of enjoyment out of it. I haven't gotten very far in Duodecim yet, but from what I have played, it's an enjoyable game as well. |

Well, SUUNOK, Dissidia 012, although I am playing even now for a few hours a week, was a huge let down TO ME for one reason, mainly.
However, do not get me wrong, I have played my original Dissidia for over 90 hours, and Dissidia 012 for over 30 hours now, and both are actually very good, but I really wanted so many other characters. I cannot help but be annoyed by Square's laziness when I play Dissidia 012. Also, PSIREN, I do see what you mean, but story and prequel status aside, I am basically annoyed by only a few more characters, only a few more stages, and no online play. For some reason hardly any PSP games have online, which I will never understand. No wonder Square's not charging FULL PRICE, you know. This post has been edited by vividesu on 6th May 2011 22:46 |

I've been tempted to pick up a PSP for Duodecim, but money for other things has held that back (tuition, gas, bills, etc.), if the next gen-PSP has backwards compatibility, i'll get that instead and buy Duodecim.

This thread is kind of old, but I thought that Duodecim was a bit of a waste. Really, all they did was just focus on Lighting. Lighting got two parts of the story, and she was even included to be the new Leader over WoL. Not to mention, the lack of no new Final Fantasy 9 or 6 introduced characters is just even more extremely disappointing.
The original Dissidia is a little bit better, because it has focus on all of the main heroes and villains and the rivalry that they have together. Not just who's Mr ( or in this case Miss) popularity of the month. Duodecim is fun to play for a while, but after spamming fighting to get everybody's second and third costumes, it was left rather dry and empty. Another disappointment with Duodecim is how SE expects fans to pay actual money for newer added in costumes, and music. Really, if you like something, you have to pay for it. In the original Dissidia all the extras are just added in after you defeat Chaos. SE, failed with XIV so they have to find cheap and sneaky ways to collect fans money that they should of gained with a original Final Fantasy. Also what they've done to Terra's personality is another disappointment. Oh, I could rant about Duodecim till the cows come home. Agreed. Now that I've been playing more of Duodecim, I'm finding fault with it, too. I was already disappointed that there weren't more new characters, and playing through some of story mode, I am finding the focus on certain characters over others is aggravating. And the Labyrinth seems needlessly complicated. Having to get all new equipment, and not being able to keep the treasures you win when you exit?
![]() So, yeah. If you have to choose one or the other, the original Dissidia is definitely better of the two. Duodecim isn't the worst game, but it could've been so much better. |

Before you follow the advice of people in this thread, do not buy the original Dissidia. You play through the original's storyline entirely in Duodecim, so there is absolutely no point in buying the first.

Dissidia is in a werid place in that it's combat is actually good and fun. My problem is that I cannot see well on hand helds so I end up buying a converter to my tv.
The big issue about Square Enix is Is Dissidia and Crisis Core should have been released on the consoles. They are both great games but it seems they are holding off on putting good games on the consoles. I bet we will see SaGa and Dragon Quest on the PS3 before we see Crisis Core or Is Dissidia ported. -------------------- His Divine Shadow |
