A thread to post the music that just improves a boss battle exponentially for you: any game, any genre. The kind of music that makes you think " Oh S____"
I'll open with the soundtrack to Blinge getting his butt handed to him earlier today Blazblue - Nu-13 (Guitars kick in at 1:17) In the interest of flow.. maybe keep it to 1-2 songs per post This post has been edited by Blinge Odonata on 25th October 2012 22:19 -------------------- www.youtube.com/blinje The victor sacrificed the vanquished to the heavens |

Should I do it or let someone else? I guess I ought to.
Dancing Mad Another personal favorite: Skies of Arcadia SoA has reactive boss music. When you have three or four characters dead or in critical condition, the music switches to "crisis" (1:23 in the link) and when the boss is in critical condition or made vulnerable in a specific way, the music switches to "opportunity" (1:54 in the link). ****ing awesome for the year 2000. -------------------- |

The Five Final Battle I just dig that epic high fantasy (perhaps stereotypically so) vibe. -------------------- |

I've harped on this a'fore, but World Revolution is completely underrated as boss battle music goes. I'd so take it over the 'final form' music that follows. And speaking of classic non-Final Fantasy Square games The Oracle had me straight tripping yo when I first heard it as a kid.
Let's see...what else? Okay there's Plok, which has always been a reliable source of good VGM regardless. Oh and the end boss of Yoshi's Island natch. Man, I can go at this for days... This post has been edited by Narratorway on 26th October 2012 06:28 -------------------- |

Aha, Jeez I remember the oracle battle.. It's a shame that tune only plays once in the game, or maybe it's for the best.. The regular Boss Battle from Secret of Mana is pretty good aswell, When I first heard it playing on virtual console I couldn't help laughing.. It's so damn strange, and when the double-kick drumming begins I just lost it. Also Lasz that dynamic theme is pretty cool, can see how it adds more immersion to the battle. Here's one from Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon- Clash of Two Virtues It plays only against two special units, people the player probably doesn't want to fight. For instance, a noble knight called Camus (pictured) who accepts that his kingdom are warmongers and wants to join you, but can't abandon his country. sorry, its an extended version but the others are bad quality This post has been edited by Blinge Odonata on 26th October 2012 12:41 -------------------- www.youtube.com/blinje The victor sacrificed the vanquished to the heavens |

I loved the reactive boss music in SoA. It really made those dire moments seem more dangerous, and those great moments seem more heroic. The entire point of having a soundtrack in a videogame is to highlight various emotional or atmospheric feelings: accordingly, I feel like reactive boss music is a logical step to take. I really enjoyed the Seymour Battle Theme, the track which plays in the final Seymour battle of the game (Seymour Omnis). Oh gosh, I was afraid this was a thread about "post all your favorite boss themes, at once" and I was like, oh gosh that will take me hours
Anyway, here's one of the lesser-noted ones that I like: Rival battle theme, Pokémon Gold/Silver/Crystal Interesting how it doesn't use percussion at all, yet still produces musical tension very well. The HeartGold/SoulSilver version of that song is probably my favorite track in any Pokemon game. They really did a great job with it. I never actually played the original Gold/Silver, so it was kinda weird to go back and hear that one just now, especially since, as you said, there's no percussion to it. Actually, both RBY and GSC have percussion-less boss themes. In fact, most of their tracks are percussion-less, if I recall correctly.

Me again, with Lil' Slugger from Super Meat Boy
how about a shift of focus? in which we post the more unusual themes, something that doesn't fit with the battle itself, or the game as a whole, or is just plain wierd. An example I suppose would be fighting JENOVA to Aerith's theme immediately after her death. -------------------- www.youtube.com/blinje The victor sacrificed the vanquished to the heavens |

Seems I'm a bit slow to join here.
I'm partial to Raiden 2's boss theme though only when heard ingame. Legendary Beast form FF8 Didn't even know this was in the game until recently. It only starts when one of the last bosses casts Shockwave Pulsar for the first time and ends when it dies. As I typically blitz with Aura and limits, the first cast of Shockwave Pulsar ends up being the last as well so I only hear the first 20-30 seconds. Necrofantasia another SHMUP track I've taken a liking to This post has been edited by DragonKnight Zero on 15th November 2012 10:11 |

^ Touhou music in general has become a really big thing on the net, with tons of remixes and associated memes as well.
And they're not bad either. Another awesome boss theme is "U.N. Owen Was Her?", which I think is Flandre Scarlet's boss theme. And one of my personal favorites is "Native Faith", though I'm not sure if that's a boss or a level theme. I was actually generally more entertained by the more melodic area tracks from Ys: the Oath in Felghana than the boss tracks, but the boss tracks were awesome nonetheless.

" Dark beasts as black as the night " pahahah way to set the scene. I agree, this certainly racks up the intensity, they're also both remixes of the boss themes from Ys III; the SNES version. You win all the points. Man.. I really must get Oath in Felghana at some point. Also were you and GMH aware of the Japan only release of another Ys III remake for the ps2? this one is side scrolling like the original, looks interesting. Quote (DragonKnight Zero @ 14th November 2012 05:03) I think we'd all bow so low to Uematsu that our faces hit floorboards... And quite right, too. So that's from a Touhou game? I've got an interest in SHMUPs since playing Ikaruga at a friends house, what would you recommend? Also that track's pretty lengthy, surely the fight isn't that long? My turn, and am going for epic this time.. Shadow of the Colossus - The Opened Way Plays during some of the Colossi, it's my favourite track in the game and so epic I can't help but try and add operatic vocals to it, with my non-operatic voice ![]() Demon's Souls - Tower Knight Continuing the theme of enemies far bigger than you.. haha. -------------------- www.youtube.com/blinje The victor sacrificed the vanquished to the heavens |

Favourite boss theme from the FF series: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EVIF1Udqr0 (Take note of who posted the video's top comment!) The Armed Boss theme from SRPG, another personal favourite: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B2f_bWs5A1s Arrow of Destiny from the SRW games is another powerful boss theme I love: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rHQS3hWxMH8 |

Oh hey, it's still there!
I would so upvote your post if I could. And the Armed Boss theme really gets that thug-like feel across. I think it's the brass. But I think it's time for me to post something...and it's something that SRW theme reminds me of: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=je6THM9HQ7s (This is an improved/remixed version.) I remember watching a friend play this game. There's that boss that phases in and out. And it has this dreaded RAINBOW BEAM. Wow, I haven't heard that theme since... since I played Lylat Wars on my N64. Damn, that was a great game. And a great theme as well.
Can't post here without including a boss theme, though! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oR4jM41hsY8 This one is from a particularly menacing battle in Fire Emblem 4, revealing anything about it is basically a spoiler though. |

I'm not familiar with Ys III's soundtrack, but I'm assuming all of its tracks were remixed for Oath in Felghana, and yes, it is awesome.
Right after Oath, I began playing Ys: Origin, which also has a strong soundtrack. While I didn't fall in love with Origin's boss track right away, it has really grown on me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TlSxN98y7Z4 -------------------- |

This was the boss theme used in the Emogame series of flash games. It was probably just a loop of the first 20 seconds or so but it worked SO well as the player slaughtered every celebrity at the mtv music awards, american idol, I forget what else.
