Well, I've finally completed Fallout: New Vegas to my satsifaction (read: as close to 100% as possible for a game that doesn't track percentage).
I'm now playing a combination of games, including: Dishonored (admittedly, taking the lion's share atm) Borderlands 1 Ico Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee which is frustrating, because I'm not a fan of starting something and then not finishing it. I really want to find the time to pick up FFVI and FFIX again, as well as replay MGS 2, 3, 4 and Peace Walker now that they have trophy support. So i'm really struggling to force myself out into the sunshine these days... -------------------- We apologise for the inconvenience |

Still working on Icewind Dale, but now I'm also throwing in some sessions of Street Fighter III: Third Strike. No Ugly Fighter IV or SF Gross Tekken for me, thankyouverymuch.

Yeah, it was a beast. I'll be honest, I stalled at roughly a similar point - as I found the main plot line seemed to be pretty direct from there out and the side plots sort of explode, leaving you a little apathetic about the right direction to go in. The solution I found (after a six month absence) was to d/l and do all the add-on packs - which reinvigorated my desire for exploring the side quests. -------------------- We apologise for the inconvenience |

Still Rogue Galaxy and Torchlight II. Rogue Galaxy is pretty good Japanese single-player action RPG. Torchlight II is pretty good American multi-player action RPG.

Random encounters, yes. Eventually you'll have a sizeable world map to traverse, and any green map point is a battlefield where a random battle can occur. Most of those battlefields are "unlocked" once you complete a story mission on it.
Different paths, not exactly. You'll always have your main objective, which is usually an orange map point. Towards the end of the game a number of optional sidequests open up, but there are no branching storyline pathways or anything that affect's the game's plot in a major way. The former Quest guys that made FF Tactics got their fill of that in the first two Tactics Ogre Battle games, I guess. While I'm here, I suppose I ought to mention that I'm playing a fair amount of Rogue Galaxy. Looking for Jaster's parents. Chapter 10. I think I'm close to the end, but I'm not sure. Okay, that's great, because I normally grind quite a bit in RPGs. So far, I'm really enjoying the game. The battles have something about them that's really enjoyable to play, and it kind of makes me wish that the other FFs had gameplay styles that were similar. I think they were smart when they put one character on auto, and the others are in your command. There's also a great feeling when you have beaten the other side except for one, and you let your guys converge on him. Another thing, do your units gain experience only when they get a hit? -------------------- |

Quote (BlitzSage @ 24th October 2012 17:16) Another thing, do your units gain experience only when they get a hit? You might have already discovered this by now, but units gain exp from any successful action (attack, spell, ability, potion, etc.) performed on enemies, allies, or themselves. Let me just say you picked a hell of a game to play. Definitely my fave Final Fantasy, as I think it's more dynamic than any other I've played. It also has my fave vg soundtrack. I can't say I've been particularly eager to go through Icewind Dale at this point. I'll have to finish it eventually, but for now, I've gone back to an old file I had going on Disgaea 2, which seems far more appealing at the moment. Still throwing in SFIII: Third Strike games, though. I don't think I'll ever get tired of that game. This post has been edited by Galsic on 25th October 2012 00:42 -------------------- |

I've never really played that or many fighting games but for some reason I have a few tracks from its soundtrack. A friend of mine's got me into Blazblue however and I can feel my interest in fighters growing.. Playing Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Hoo boy, I love me a game with good stealth mechanics Took me a little while to get into but now I'm well and truly invested in the story/world.. Possible spoilers: highlight to view I just spent ages walking around a hotel with loads of NPC's and collectible lore, soaking it all in at my own pace, pretty chilled out, wasn't gonna play for long. Suddenly PMC troops come in looking for one guy and kill every innocent civilian who isn't him.. usually I'd sneak out past them but I was (gamer) angry by this point. HELL NO, I gradually snuck up on the fireteams and thinned their numbers down until I'd wiped every last guy out.. Flying Red Barrel!
It's a cute little doujin (indie) shmup by Orange_Juice that's pretty challenging but has a very nice practice mode. Use continues to open up levels for practice, then practice them until you can beat them regularly. Has a bit of a storyline to it, too. I got this through an Indie Royale bundle, via Desura, but its nondiscounted price on Desura is not too bad--just $5.99. Recently beat Ys: the Oath in Felghana. This is a difficult but satisfying game. It feels fair, too, the way it lets you practice bosses. The bosses are difficult, sometimes overwhelming, but never impossible. And the music is AMAZING. Just finished playing Knights of the Old Republic 2 with the (supposed) finished restoration patch. This game takes the force and the role of the Jedi to another level, very philosophical and "gray", in opposite to the dark/light that reigns in Star Wars in general.
Now, the finals are coming, so i won't play anything else for a while. about tactics: I played once and was really enjoying it, until I discovered I couldn´t Possible spoilers: highlight to view I dropped the game, because i really put a lot of effort into aquiring such skills. Yeah, i'm an idiot dual wield spears or guns. ![]() This post has been edited by Kirchewasser on 1st November 2012 01:59 -------------------- Live Long and Prosper! |

Most of what you say applies to the original, but you cant get through the game without doing some level grinding, which is odd for an action RPG, eh? I'm considering doing a Let's Play of it.. but I don't know if there's much interest in terms of viewers. Currently playing Penumbra: Overture. A First person horror adventure from Sweden.. I've never played anything in this genre, so I'm suitably freaked out and losing momentum ![]() -------------------- www.youtube.com/blinje The victor sacrificed the vanquished to the heavens |

Playing more Atelier Iris: Eternal Mana. I stopped playing the game years ago looking for a hidden item in a big dungeon, and I'm starting from fresh. The cast of mains and NPCs is appealing, the huge range of item synthesis is pretty dope, and the visuals, music, and combat are all decent and functional. The basic character movement is kinda wonky, though, and the plot is a lot more disjointed and boring than I remember. I'll definitely finish this one through to the end, but I'm not enjoying it quite as much as I expected to.

After clearing out PSX Silent Hill, I started in my two Colony Wars games to get back into the space sim groove before Chris Roberts releases Star Citizen, but that quickly fell by the wayside when I remembered I had FFIX.
Okay let me just say here from a recent chat convo: Josh, you don't even have to make a whole elaborate section for FFIX, just transcribe Shotgunnova's Walkthrough to your interface and I will die happy! Just sayin... -------------------- |

That said, I was impressed with just how good the camera is in that game. It's disciplined and well planned and rarely is there situation where its poorly placed or a hindrance. Most modern games don't handle a camera as well as this game did back in the day. It helps that it's a full 3D environment unlike its contemporaries and even that had me wowing at the level of sheer detail they were able to pull off considering the limited power of the PSX. -------------------- |

I was playing and looking to plat Overlord 2 but found out 2 days ago that Codemasters spontaniously and quit suddenly shut down their online servers for the game without notice. i was really quite bummed. I only go all out and plat games i enjoy and to me it made me feel like i missed some the experience never getting to screw around online with boosting partners for the online trophies. after posting on a post for my favorite chrono trigger music i realized that that would actually be really fun to play again right about now.

Still playing Disgaea 2. I recently learned, the hard way, that elemental affinities not only affect a unit's damage resistance, but also it's damage output with a particular element. But now, I believe I have a game plan for how I wish to develop my characters. This means a fair amount grinding is ahead for me, but I'll also try to level up equipment, capture specialists, and rack up felonies along the way.
Y'know, this game almost makes me want the PS3, just so I can play Disgaea 3 and 4. Almost. -------------------- |
