Title says most everything. Not sure how many people here have played Suikoden 3, but for those that have: who do you think are the most useful in battle? I'm playing through right now (just started Chapter 5), so I'm interested not only out of curiousity but out of practical concern as well.

Here are a few of my favorites (extra points to characters with facial hair):

Mua - An absolute tank. I know that Leo (if not others) can get higher armor values, but Mua has the benefit of a high shield block skill. Takes a whole lotta heat off the rest of the party with the Firefly rune. Even though Mua isn't terribly strong offensively, he's relatively quick.

Augustine - With three Rose Brooches and upgraded Swing, Augustine gets a ton of attacks, which is awesome. And he can get pretty fast with Holy Dash upgraded. His Parry abilities are convenient when they work, though not quite reliable as one might like.

Juan - goes buck wild. The combination of great potential for damage multipliers along with a large number of swings is pretty much the best one could ask for offensively.

Of the three main characters, I think I perfer Chris. She has reasonable defense and seems to put out better offensive numbers as well with multiple swings and Heavy Damage.

Juan and Emily were both absurdly useful since they just get outrageous amounts of attacks every turn. I used Hugo and his Griffin (Feather?) a lot as well, but beyond that, I don't really remember my party. I'm pretty sure I threw Geddoe and Ace in there in at least one playthrough.

The name of his Griffin is Fubar, heh.

So, I started using Emily a bit... and yeah, she's pretty impressive.

Another person I've been using as a tank (now that I'm at the four-parties split towards the end) is Leo, who has been doing quite well. Single-handedly salvaged a match against Yuber by not only taking every one of Yuber's hits for minimal damage but also landing every hit of his own.

Lucia (Hugo's mom) has been a pretty decent character for me late-game as well. Not a star player or anything, but she gets a good number of hits with a fair number of damage multipliers.

It's been a while since I've played this game but a helpful character that comes to mind was Mel, the girl with the puppet. I'm sure most people bypass her as useful but I worked on her skill with thunder runes and she was beefed up enough to take out all of Yuber's minions in one cast in the final dungeon.
