Anyone familiar with how to code/script for the RPG Maker VX engine? I'm still a bit away from actually implementing the game but I'd like to know if someone had experience with it. My goals currently are to get all the storyline "scripted" (order of events, character dialog, NPC dialog, and such, not the actual coding script) and all the sprites/graphics done. If you're interested, I'll have to post some of the graphics

If your project is directly inspired by the earlier Final Fantasy games (which should be obvious, given you are in a Final Fantasy community) then I think it'll make more sense to work on it using RPG Maker 2003 as opposed to RPG Maker VX. The former is more suitable for games in the style of Final Fantasy VI; the latter Dragon Quest III.
I mostly use RPG Maker 2003 myself, and although I know next to nothing when it comes to coding on my own, RPG Maker VX has a nice, simple list of "event commands" to choose from. You can add a dialogue box with a message on it, change the colors/brightness of your game, create choices to choose from, etc. Again, I am more of an RPG Maker 2000/2003 person. Still, if you would like some of my help I'd be glad to assist you. |

Unfortunately I don't know any scripting, but I do look forward to seeing some screens, and if you have need for anything else on the project, I'd be more than happy to help out! Cheers!

Are you doing all the mapping yourself?

I'm doing EVERYTHING by myself.
Also, I participated in something called "NaGaDeMo" (National Game Development Month) and made my goal of a demo! My game has its own page here now, http://rpgmaker.net/games/4209/ -------------------- kame, tortue, tortuga, schildkröte, tartaruga, turtle "Arthur Dent?" "Yes." "Arthur Philip Dent?" "Yes."
