On a wall in an office in Square Enix-published Deus Ex 3 there's this poster. Somehow it looks better than all the recent FF games by virtue of having a woman character who can wear clothes properly and doesn't seem like an idiot. Also not either a silly flirt or a cold monster. And she has red hair. Hope for the future? I'd play it based on that poster.
Consider me voting Eidos Montreal to make the next FF game. (Sorry about the tinny graphics I have to play it at the lowest or my laptop overheats.) ![]() -------------------- Scepticism, that dry rot of the intellect, had not left one entire idea in his mind. Me on the Starcraft. |

You know? With the way they've been doing FF games recently, Eidos wouldn't be a bad idea.
But I agree, wholeheartedly. -------------------- -FFIII FFIV FFV FFVII FFVIII FFX FFXII FFXIII FF:Dissidia FFVII:CC FFVII:DoC --KHI KHII KH:COM KH:BbS ---SO:FD SO:TTEOT SO:TLH ----DQIII DQVIII -----DA:O DAII ------VP:S |

Well, notably, the Metroid series had the Prime subseries developed by a western studio, and said subseries has been vastly successful.
Though the Metroid series has always been more popular in the west than in Japan for some reason. I don't think this applies to the FF series, even if it is more popular than DQ in the west, as the whole JRPG genre is not as popular here. -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. She could probably beat lightning up, too. Especially with that lovely 18 inch knife coming off her knee.

I think the FF series has been dying for a change in artistic style (at the very least), for some time now. We know they've pretty much gotten how to make people look pretty damn real down to an art... seems like the next move would be devolution, and if it's towards this more Gothic/Steampunky looking style here, then I for one welcome our new reptilian overlords.

That actually looks interesting. I could go for a style like that in a new Final Fantasy.

The poster reminds me of Witch Hunter Robin.
Anyway, I like it and could definitely go for something like that. |

Cute. But, I think my position on whether or not this girl beats Lightning is perfectly clear. =

I hope we just get an actual RPG for Pete's sake. None of this action-RPG crap, which requires only one button... X. Or A.

While I enjoyed FFXIII and look forward to FFXIII-2, I would like to echo the call for more realistic female characters. I thought Lightning's character was fine; there has to be a degree of exaggeration in any videogame character in order for them to be developed over such a short period. As I've said before, I think FFXIII's characters are incredibly well done, but if nothing else a bit of realistic clothing might be appropriate. You can still make an important female good-looking even if she is wearing 3+ square feet of cloth. So, you're worried about what format a faux-game might have that, according to the numbering, is thirteen versions away? That said, I love that Eidos stuck this easter egg in there, and I consider it both a homage to their parent company and a bit of good-natured ribbing as well. I also love that the Squenix corporate monolith is apparently okay with it being there, too. A good show all around. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

Oh, me likes. Sweet little easter egg.
Ah, but if only the FF series could take a shift closer to Deus Ex in terms of story and gameplay. Recycled cliches and easy-bake combat has been making the series limp in the waters of quality for quite some time, so a different outlook might be the shot in the arm to get her sailing again. Of course, and they'd never do it, but perhaps they could also take a sort of leaf from Mass Effect. Your character has a generic unisex name, you pick his or her looks, and then to add a little more customisation, maybe a an optional nickname like Roach, Firebird, Soap, Snake, Dagger, Pinkie Pie... Something so you're making your own lead character. Oh wait. That's actual role-playing. -------------------- "Only the dead have seen the end of their quotes being misattributed to Plato." -George Santayana "The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here..." -Abraham Lincoln, prior to the discovery of Irony. |
