I never understood the need to dress yourself up as a character from a game.

It usually looks really stupid because usually final fantasy outfits only work in game and not real life.

It is even worse when you get towards ff7 ff8 ff9 FFX because they become more ridiculous in game and in real life look more ridiculous.

Personally:i find cosplayers kinda weird.

While I agree that Magitek generally just trolls in most of his posts, despite having nobody to actually troll - I'm not familiar with any CoN members who are currently active that do cosplay - unless you have something to say to rebut or agree with the thesis, it doesn't help to post here.

I will rebut a bit, though, I suppose, to take my own medicine; I've never really been a cosplayer for any video game, unless you count my Plants vs. Zombies costume for Halloween a couple years back. Even though I'm not a cosplayer, though, I really don't see why anyone should say that they're all "weird." I mean, if you don't like cosplay, that's fine, don't, but I don't see what that means the people who do it are in any way inferior to you or anyone else. To me, the people who are creative enough to do decent cosplay really deserve to be commended. Designing and making clothes and costumes isn't easy, and it's got to be even harder when the costumes are from a fantasy video game series. There's a LOT of dedication required to make oneself look like a Cloud, or a Kefka, or a Rydia, and beyond that, I think it probably takes a lot of balls, too because of people like Magitek who will call them weird just because they enjoy a hobby. Sure, there are some who do the cosplay half-heartedly, but there are just as many who do really impressive work, and they deserve to be applauded for it, not generalized by someone who has nothing to do but tear other people down for no good reason.

There's nothing wrong with cosplaying!

This was me actually unintentionally dressing up as Phoenix Wright, when we discovered it, I was forced to pose. But honestly, I don't think there's anything wrong with the cosplayers. If there's anything wrong, it's that they're forced to create elaborate costumes covered in belts and zippers. That ain't cheap, yo.

Its mostly the final fantasy fans who i find creepy in cosplay.

I saw this guy in a youtube video copying what might have been a scene or roleplaying something of ff8 and he dressed up like squall and he had 1 girl who did cosplay of both edea and rinoa.

I can't help but laugh when i see it just because it looks silly to see that squall costume in real life.

Also:my intention wasn't to start a flame war but to start a conversation about this topic and since its in this area its very narrowed down to:final fantasy cosplayers.

I don't deal with other cosplayers because i haven't seen all of them.

I saw one guy do naruto in a video 1 guy do sailor moon and a few girls do sailor moon.

Its just that final fantasy costumes aren't meant to be seen in real life i think.

Can you imagine a guy wearing a kuja costume?

Oh yeah! besides ranger51:my mood changes.

Today i am especially on this topic since i saw some recent final fantasy cosplays that looked ridiculous and it is still fresh in my mind, had it passed a long time,i would be thinking of something else.

Costumes are fun, and I'm glad people have found a way to do them more than only on Halloween.

I do agree a lot of the FF costumes definitely don't look very cool when they're fitted to people who have more realistic proportions than the characters in the games/artwork. But I'm glad those people are having fun at something so creative, and I'm glad they're using their imagination and that others can participate in that. It makes for a fun, colorful environment full of wonder at the creativity and dedication of others, despite the anticlimax of seeing a real life so-and-so.

There's nothing wrong with cosplay of any sort, Final Fantasy or beyond. I don't regularly engage in it or anything, apart from a few Harry Potter premieres in Slytherin garb and a pretty bad ass Tuxedo Mask costume for Halloween one year, but I agree with the sentiment already expressed. Putting together those costumes, especially when done particularly well, is cool precisely because it's 'not meant for real life.' I think of some of the fantastic Metroid and Mass Effect cosplay featured on Kotaku some time ago when I say there are people who really bring a lot of artistic creativity to the task of making themselves look like fictional characters. It's no different than paying tribute via fanart or fanfiction, apart from the medium.

If we're going to talk about things that are particularly weird, I'd submit the lack of your grasp on the concept of paragraphs to you, Magitek. Or, at the very least, that you need not hit the 'enter' key after every sentence.

I was Link for Halloween in Fourth Grade, and everyone save for one person thought I was Peter Pan/Robin Hood. T_T

I was GIR for Halloween in Sixth Grade, too.

But I don't like seeing creepy girls dressed as Sora/Cloud, or men dressed as Sailor Mercury.

For a long time I didn't like cosplayers. I thought that they almost inevitably totally destroy the original characterization of the characters they cosplay as, along with any and all seriousness of said characters and their contexts.

Then I realized that the reason I disliked cosplaying was because I was focusing on the character rather than the costume design.

Now I juts say that the costume design isn't really my thing--I definitely have little taste if any for all those excessively-elaborate designs in things like recent FF games--and I compliment them on their efforts, giving special praise for those whose acting and displayed personality actually also match that of the character they're cosplaying.
