am I the only one who thought this deserved more credit? I can seriously just sit here reading them, it's so interesting. I like how they describe not only the monsters themselves (history, abilities, etc.), but how they make for great resources to the humans
so awesome pretty sure my play time is so high just because of that. -------------------- looks like you finally got yourself a nice pair of DDs. wanna m8? |

I quite enjoyed reading FFXII's bestiary entries myself.
My one complaint would be that I felt it took too many kills to unlock the full entry for some creatures, which made things a bit tedious. -------------------- FF games completed: I (psp), II (psp), III (DS), IV (psp), V (GBA), VI (GBA), VII, VIII, IX, X, XI: Nations-Rhapsodies of Vana'diel, XII, XIII, XIV, XV. Spin-offs: FFIV: Interlude & The After Years, Crisis Core: FFVII, X-2, XIII-2, Lightning Returns, Type-0 HD, Dissidia, Dissidia 012, and Tactics (original & WotL). Enjoyed them all. |

I enjoyed them a lot too. There's an entire Paradise Lost sort of story behind the Espers that's exclusively in the bestiary. It's great because it's totally optional. The story is the story, all the tertiary stuff is at the player's discretion. Actually my favourite part of the game is the massive variety of monsters, hunts and Espers.
My play time is definitely higher because of this too. -------------------- Scepticism, that dry rot of the intellect, had not left one entire idea in his mind. Me on the Starcraft. |

I agree with that part. Particularly how you had to kill 14 of each of the Mandagoras, which only appear in one area of the Feywood after you had killed everything within two zones, and only a few at a time.
Next to that is the Gariff, which can only be found one at a time in one location in Giza, and rarely at that. Trying to kill 6 of them was not worth the effort for me. That said, the bestiary was extremely facinating. Made me actually want to go out and try to respawn ash wyrms as much as I could. I think it was pretty obvious though that a lot of the bestiary entries were written seperately from the actual main game writing, as some things don't seem to work entirely well together (the Esper entries) but that just adds to the entire mythological aspect of the game. Actually my favourite part of the game is the massive variety of monsters, hunts and Espers. I definitely enjoyed the Esper background stories as well. In my eyes, the strongest point of FFXII was the amount of depth it had, and a great example of that is the amount of information presented in the bestiary (as well as the multitude of loot and weapons/armor available). The most fun part of the game for me was going on the Hunts, finding Espers and exploring. -------------------- Currently Playing : Final Fantasy V Most Recently Beat : Elder Scrolls: Skyrim Favorite Game : Final Fantasy X The newest CoNcast is up!
