Okay, on one hand, this could work out real well and be awesome. On the other hand... a Final Fantasy rhythm game? Isn't that a bit absurd? -------------------- "When we think there's no hope left, we keep looking until we find some!" - Claire Farron |

Very.. Strange. I'm not going to get it. It could be good, but it seems like it should be a sidequest in a game, you know? Similar to blitzball, or the card games from IX and VIII.

If it's going to be anything like Elite Beat Agents, I may have to blow a paycheck or two for a 3DS.

The article explains that there will be dungeons and towns. The battles will be rhythm based. To be honest that doesn't sound too bad. What I just cannot understand, once again, is why the hell this is a Final Fantasy title. I understand it's good for marketing (we probably wouldn't be talking about it otherwise) but surely now having 'Final Fantasy' in there raises big questions of quality.

Well, it's using Final Fantasy music remixes in the rhythm battles. People won't be buying this for an RPG-rhythm experience, they'll be buying this to play Ouendan/EBA with Final Fantasy music.

Ah right that makes a lot of sense now. I didn't see that.

Theatrhythm? I think I'll just call it TunnelArmr. Same difference.
And I will probably buy Tunnelarmr even though it looks extremely lame and I have no current plans to own a 3DS. I enjoyed the DS and EBA -- which also looked lame -- too much to pass this up. |

If image macros were not frowned upon in these halls you can bet there'd be a facepalm and a cornette face followed by possibly some sort of pony. Obvious, obscure, overused. The three O's of meme misuse.
But yeah. Most of the things I want to say in response are pretty damn against the rules so in summary and with four or five thousand reptitions of the same word deleted: cheap cash in, unlikely to have non japanese release, looks like it's built for diehard fans slash window lickers oh wait same thing these days. The worst part is people will actually buy this. -------------------- "Only the dead have seen the end of their quotes being misattributed to Plato." -George Santayana "The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here..." -Abraham Lincoln, prior to the discovery of Irony. |

What's with them not going for simple names? "FInal Fantasy Fighting" would totally make me want Dissidia just as bad (which wasn't much). "Final Fantasy Rhythm game" would be absolutely fine!
I keep thinking Theathrythm is The Atrium without the spacebar key anyway >< I dunno, if it's 20 bucks I'll look into it, but I'm not paying RPG price for what looks about as entertaining as a 4.99 cell phone game to me. -------------------- You're telling me that there's no hope. I remember when FF IX first came out, and people automatically assumed that it was lame, babyish and stupid, just by looking at the character design and game graphics.
This game may not have the Microsoft X-box 360 style of next- gen gaming, but it could be really fun, and really entertaining. Though, on the other hand, why is Square doing something like this, when people are still begging for KH3 and Versus ? The game *could* be great, but I think that this a stupid move by SE, and that the game isn't going to sell well over Western shores at all. It seems like SE is just fooling around and not caring anymore. Or they're confident that fans will buy this game anyways, because it's got * Final Fantasy on the title. The worst part is people will actually buy this. I wouldn't write it off so quickly, Del S. Let's not forget that this is the franchise that's built itself off of being something different every single time. I admit, it sounds ridiculous, but then so are a lot things in Final Fantasy. And besides, SQEX made The World Ends with You, a game far more ridiculous than this, yet it is one of the best games I've ever played. Quote The battles will be rhythm based. Well, maybe this might turn out to be Mother 3's battle system on steroids. -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. I think the newspost I just wrote ( http://www.cavesofnarshe.com/news/article/...details-emerge/ )addresses the "begging" aspect - you have to remember that Square Enix are as much publishers now as they are game developers, and they are not developing this game. They hired an outside group to do it. I don't think it will sell amazing numbers of units over here, but I think it will do just fine if they release it here at all. It's a portable system, and games like Elite Beat Agents have small but vocal followings here. I don't see why it couldn't succeed at least a little. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |
