It's so early that few people are reporting it, but Final Fantasy VI (in it's original American name Final Fantasy III) is now available for download in the Wii's Virtual Console, for 800 Wii Points.

Not that early, we scheduled it to go into tidbits just after lunchtime today. Oh, well, we've got plenty of other stuff.

I'm gonna hold out for the release on the playstation network. I'll be able to get Final Fantasy 6, Final Fantasy 5, and Chrono trigger all at once. I'm just disappointed in the fact that the ps1 version is lacking in so many ways. Its just not as awesome as the SNES version.

Will the PSN version be a re-release of the Chronicles/Anthology/whatever version, as opposed to the SNES version, I guess?

Yeah, bc the Wii VC version is, I believe (from what I've played so far) a straight copy of the SNES version. Both of the PSX versions lagged on me, but I'm sure they'll fix that. I'm just glad to see the games come out so that more people can play them. -------------------- |

It shouldn't lag if it's downloaded onto the hard drive, should it?

Well, from the technical side, I can say that usually the seek times are faster at HDDs in contrast to CD/DVDs. Though, this is just theoretical, since it depends on how the game is coded and "ported".

I've already gotten it off the PSN for my PSP, so I don't want or need the VC FFIII version. The PSX version's script is a little more accurate and I'm sure there are a couple other little changes, but I'm not 100%.
I live in the US, so I had to go through the trouble of creating a European PSN account, then buying a European PSN points card online (which cost almost double the American dollars I paid for it). But, at least I have it already. I was getting tired of waiting. By the way, yes, it's still got slow loading times, just as it did on the PSX disc, which confuses me, since it doesn't have to load from a disc anymore, but whatever. It doesn't bother me all that much. This post has been edited by Fatal on 3rd July 2011 01:27 -------------------- |

The lag of the PSX port wasn't to do with disc loading times, by and large. It, as I understand it (and makes sense to me, anyway), was caused by the way that the game was ported, with the code being un-optimized for the new platform. It would seem that since there's no money to be made in re-porting it for the PSN version, that it's going to be the way it is.

I would guess that the PSN people would want them to fix the lag times so they could compete with the VC. Why would someone buy a version that lags when they could use a system (that they probably already have) to buy virtually the same game for $8? Plus, this is more of a continuous deal. It's not like the original SNES cartridge, or PSX disc, where they discontinue it. See my line of thought? -------------------- |

Yep. Why would I want the hairpin instead of Mog? Basically, it goes like this. Your choice is either 1) Gold Hairpin (cuts MP use by half), or 2) having Mog early. Basically, you can get him then in Narshe, so you can have him in the World of Balance. Having him in the World of Balance is the only way to get his water dance, Water Rondo. If you're asking my opinion, it's really up to you. The Gold Hairpin is very useful, but only for a while in the game. If you go to the Jurassic Forest, and defeat Brachiosaurs, you win an Econimizer, which cuts MP use to 1, no matter the spell. But the Gold Hairpin is something I'd recommend if you're having trouble or you're not level grinding. But normally I just save Mog (but then again, I usually wind up level grinding). Edit The important thing to realize is that you don't lose Mog by passing him up here. Personally though, I like saving him for story reasons, but that's just me. IIRC I have read that you can still learn the last dance in the bonus dungeon and / or a specific boss battle in the GBA version, might have been Leviathan.

The VC version is a straight copy of the SNES version 1.1, though.

Eh I think i'd be great if they made the GBA version the one on the PS3 and PSP. Course For the sake of saying, I haven't played the PS1 version of 6 outta all of them.
Idk with the Resident Evil Series just coming out one after another so far on the PSN, no telling whats next -------------------- Kefka's Message of the week: Get off your couch noobs and get my new game Dissidia 012 |
