What.

But.

I mean. Just WHAT? ANOTHER game? Seriously? I mean, but - GOD! How many games do they have in development? Three? Four? How long have they BEEN in development? Six years? Seven years? How many MMOs do they have running that are buggy as hell?

Square Enix, I am disappoint.

Well I"m glad during their poor fiscal year they at least have something planned instead of an endless stream of ports and remakes. Geez Smash, anything little quip you can make about Square Enix. At least give them a chance to fix what they messed up.

Not doing the exact same thing that went horribly wrong the last time is a good start to fixing it I'd say.

This is bloody stupid. A market saturated with MMOs, the memory of the screwup that is FF14 lingering... They'll need a very good idea to not sink with this one I think.

Still, we know nothing about it. On the other hand, past events have more than justified pessimism on such moves.

Gotta agree with Del here. They've missed the mark twice now with MMOs, so forgive me for not having high hopes for their third attempt.

I think they should take the Final Fantasy name out of these games and just try and do a standalone MMO. They're not stealing so much from the games that they HAVE to be FF's, and maybe without the expectations of a Final Fantasy game, it could actually grow and be its own thing instead of rudely interrupting a series, hahaha.

Also, at first I thought that chocobo was a space man in a baggy yellow suit.

Square-Enix is just really, REALLY determined to have a successful MMO. A good 70% of the whole damn industry is trying to emulate the success of either Blizzard, Zynga, or PopCap. Trying to make The Next Big Thing in MMOs, social networking games, or casuals. Especially if they can be made for smartphones.

Square Enix, I am disappoint.

I have absolutely no idea what you're trying to say here, if I'm honest with you. This year's financial report shows that the company still employs over three thousand people. How many games would be acceptable to you for a company that size? One? Two? Should Squenix take all of the Eidos people and force them to make nothing but Final Fantasy games? Would that actually improve the quality of the next Final Fantasy game, do you think?

I get your point about the flagship games being in development hell. Especially in terms of the Final Fantasy series, it does seem hard for them to start the work on a game and keep that game focused upon its platform and genre, and it seems to take them a long while to crank out each new game. But what are you comparing it to, exactly? Should it be a Call of Duty or a Madden game where there is a release every year? If so, how many people would then complain about the short release cycle if they didn't like that year's version?

With regards to the MMOs, yeah, XIV appears to be a mess. I'm going only on what I've read, and I haven't read anything about it in quite a while. However, based on only what I know, the number of MMOs that they currently have running that are "buggy as hell" appears to me to be one. Sure, that number should be zero, but what's your point? The company has already said they're going focus on revitalizing their MMOs this year, which almost certainly involves focusing on fixing XIV. What's it to you if they think they can make more money by both doing that AND making a new one, too?

It's clear that you really want to bash the company because they're not giving you what you want. OK, that's fine, that's your right. It's still their right to do what they want to, though, too, so if those two concepts are at loggerheads, then go play the games you already have and be thankful you have them. They're not trying to turn you off personally, and it's clear that you aren't too hurt by their business practices given that you, for instance, play Dissidia.

This is why these kinds of rants just don't make any sense to me. You're not the only one who does them, of course, and I don't mean to make this too personal, but there just comes a time where you have to say, "okay, I'm yelling just to be yelling, here."

While I've got the post open, though, there are a lot of people who have been behind Relm's thought since FFXI was first announced. I think that would be the best thing they could do, agreed.

No, no, you're right. I was caught up in the moment and being angry and whiny. I just find it silly that they've had two games in development for nearly six years, one game they released far too early, and I let my fanboy-ism get the best of me. It won't happen again.

Hey, you're totally entitled to your opinions! I, and I don't think anyone, minds opinions, I just thought that yours might not have been completely considered, personally. Don't worry about it. smile.gif

I realized this morning this probably sounded a bit condescending. What I was aiming to say in a nutshell was that I wasn't responding as a mod, there, just as another member who doesn't have a problem with your opinion but questioned whether the argument was fully-formed. -R51

I've got to agree with Relm here. It's clear that, for whatever, reason, SE is determined to make a successful MMO. While I think that they're probably better off trying to recapture what they do/did best, I think at the very least it would be nice of them to stop dragged the FF franchise through the dirt with MMOs. I want to say third time's a charm, but goodness, most people quit when the second time looks as bad as FFXIV did.
