I know square will mess it up, but what would YOU look for in a remake of FFVI?
I'm a HUGE fan of VI and I would have to say Voice acting, (good, but that's hard to pull off) a HD cinematic feel Possible spoilers: highlight to view watching Rachael come back and give Locke peace of mind in a cutscene would blow me away, among others, like the opera scene, shadows dreams, ETC... but most of all, I want to see it get DONE. IV has had remakes in the past and VII got 2 sequels and a prequel. (CC, AC, AND DOC.) WHEN is it gonna be VI's time in the new day? hell, I don't like Dissidia, but they didn't even give VI another character, they gave them a stage. LAME. Any thoughts or points anyone would like to touch up on? -------------------- Come closer, FEEL my wrath. I posted this in another thread, but I'd be happy with a 2D remake, as it is now, just with enhanced graphics and an updated, accurate script. You know, just like they did with FFIV on the PSP recently. Include all the new features the GBA version had (new summons, extra dungeons and creatures, including the Kaiser Dragon). I've never played the GBA version, so these extra features would be new to me. Just enhance everything like you did with FFIV on the PSP and I'm a happy man. I don't think it should be remade in 3D. I'm just not sure how well it would work. There are certain parts of the game that would look amazing in great PS3 level graphics, but they could just include those in cutscenes that would be added, again like they did with IV.

A bit of OT but: Does FF IV PSP looks like FF IV NDS or has it better graphics?
Moderator Edit There are lots of topics about FF4PSP. Your question is answered there, and you can keep this from going off topic. -R51 This post has been edited by Rangers51 on 11th May 2011 16:49 |

Hi all, newbie here, and a long-time fan of FFVI.
I'm actually playing the Psone remake on my new PS3, and would love to see some of the GBA version's additional features included on a new English language remake. To be honest though, a full remake (or 're-imagineing) wouldn't appeal to me. Part of this game's appeal for me (apart from the great storyline, characters, gameplay and music) is the old-skool charm and 2D graphics. The worst thing for my beloved FFVI would be a remake with dodgy voice-acting and bells-and-whistles graphics. So sadly I don't see it happening. Squeenix are unlikely to re-release the game with the old-style graphics (at least on the PS3), and a re-imageining could be a real letdown. Best enjoy things as they are I think. -------------------- "Smoking's bad, mm'kay?" -Mr Mackey- |

Quote The worst thing for my beloved FFVI would be a remake with dodgy voice-acting and bells-and-whistles graphics. I was just talking about bringing the game into a new age. you can always play the original if you don't like the remake. Quote a re-imageining could be a real letdown. This is what I don't understand. Don't get me wrong here, i'm not out to be a douchebag, but a reimagening would bring old school players like myself BACK to the game and give it a new breath of life after being released here back in 1994. It was a long time ago, and there should be a re-telling of a story that captured the imagination of a high number of players for a new age of gamers to experience. This is what i'm talking about. Not the typical square-enix remake, YOUR remake. This topic has nothing to do with a typical remake but what you want to see happen. Even if its nothing, and you never want to see FFVI see the light of day again on a store shelf (which would be madness.) -------------------- Come closer, FEEL my wrath. Considering that all four DS remakes have been pretty damn good, and that there are plenty of adaptations of the original version, and that Squeenix does not yet have authority to force each and every game owner to play any remakes, I don't see any downside to a 3D remake, and am actually expecting one eventually.

I really hate what Japenese people think Americans want to hear for voice acting, so I'd say no voice acting. I remember FFIV's being ok, but I wouldn't want to risk it, honestly.
I'd like a 3D remake, but it'd be really hard to see the cutesy chibi style characters in such often serious scenes in FFVI, and some glamorous, FFXIII style game would just be dreadful, though a pretty good money maker. I dunno. It's hard to say for me. I don't exactly want another port, but I definitely would want it beefed up a bit. This is one of those games where I have a pretty good idea of how everything should look and sound, and if they screwed that up, I'd be pretty dissapointed. It's like Setzer from Kingdom Hearts... why'd they even bother? haha. -------------------- You're telling me that there's no hope. I'm telling you you're wrong. |

If there was to be a remake in 3D a cel-shaded graphics system is a must. I dunno why but I think the aesthetic of the original would be best preserved by cel-shading (I'm thinking Dragon Quest 8 on the PS2 here) than anything else.
Perhaps the opportunity to own and breed your own chocobos too, instead of having them run away at dismounting And I'm going out on a limb here, but what about having the enemies visible in the field at all times, instead of using random encounters. I really liked the battle system in FFXII, although to be honest I'm not sure that would necessarily translate well with other apsects of FFVI. -------------------- "Smoking's bad, mm'kay?" -Mr Mackey- |

It's like Setzer from Kingdom Hearts... why'd they even bother? haha. I know! The only thing I thought was cool was that they used his line from the ending of FFVI which was totally unfitting to begin with. Possible spoilers: highlight to view "Just when you think you're right, you're wrong. And that is a big mistake!" also, on an unrelated note: back to what I wanna see in a remake. I found a few more nostalgic things to throw in... Possible spoilers: highlight to view I dunno, seeing the esper gate in sweet ps3 graphics with a revamped soundtrack would make my brain explode, among other things revamped Also, I would like to see a more involving battle system where magicite played a much bigger role like summons did in FFX, but bring about that in a different way. Such as characters get bonus effects because of the magicite, or when you summon, there could be a variety of moves the esper can do. And even leveling up an esper based on how many times you use them/equip them. Great graphics would be good, not necessarily in 3D. and I do want voice acting now that i've heard Setzers, Terra's, and Kefka's voice. It gets me curious about the others. im Wierd. heh heh... Oh, and in the final battle, 4th tier, keep in the midi version of kefkas laugh at the loop for a sweet surprise for super nerds like myself. -------------------- Come closer, FEEL my wrath. I'd love to see FF6 get a PSP remake in the same vein as their remakes of FF1, FF2 & FF4 Complete Collection. Like RelmArrowney said, I don't think the DS-style 3D chibis would look right for the characters and tone of FF6's story, so I'd prefer updated/revamped sprites and CG movies of some of the more dramatic scenes, the way they did in the PSP remake of FF4. (The Esper gate, the opera, the Blackjack flying towards Vector, the Phantom Train, the Floating Continent, the Falcon rising from the sea, Rachel's revival, the final confrontation with Kefka...seeing those fully rendered would be so awesome, it'd explode my brain!

Imagine the journey through the Serpent Trench in 3D, with that brilliant music in surround sound blasting away...
But there's several great water/river related sections in FF6, and they all made the world seem more - whole, more real somehow. To see these getting a 21st century do-over would be special -------------------- "Smoking's bad, mm'kay?" -Mr Mackey- |

I get goosebumps sometimes thinking about a FFVI remake. i'm just wondering when itll happen. or even an announcement. I heard the PSN is about to get FFVI which is dope. but I still want more to VI than a couple scenes and a few dungeons/summons. plus, I already own all makes of the game. (SNES, PS1, and GBA) what is one more to add to the collection?

Tactics was remade but on PSP (and soon to be iOS it seems), while VII has just been re-released. Playstation Network, IIRC.
FFVI and FFV have gotten about the same as much attention: PS1 re-releases and GBA remakes. FFIV has gotten a ton. FFIII finally got a remake on DS. FFI has had a ton as well. Would be nice if FFVI got the FFIV treatment. And the PSP/iOS remakes of FF I and II are actually a bit better than Dawn of Souls. The only FF DS remakes that Square-Enix has made are FF III, FF IV, and Final Fantasy Legend II if you count that (which you probably shouldn't). -------------------- |

All right I couldn't remember exactly. I guess that's why they never did a DS remake then.

Quote (laszlow @ 9th June 2011 19:38) the PSP/iOS remakes of FF I and II are actually a bit better than Dawn of Souls. I have yet to pick up the PSP version of FFII, but as far as FFI goes, "a bit better" is an understatement. Dawn of Souls had a decreased difficulty level, and being on a more advanced console, the PSP version naturally has improved graphics (not critical for an RPG, but it's still nice) and sound, not to mention the Labyrinth of Time and Chronodia. My favorite rendition of "Battle on the Big Bridge" doesn't hurt it either, IMO. -------------------- |
