Final Fantasy VI is on the way to yet another release, but it's still not the rumored 3D remake for the Nintendo 3DS. As close as you're getting now is the Wii, and Japan is as close as it is getting to Western gamers, at least for now.

Coming sometime in March, Final Fantasy VI will cost 900 Wii Points, a little higher than the standard cost for Super Famicom games. Like other VC games, this will be a largely-untweaked port of the original SFam/SNES release. There's no word yet whether it will get the same treatment for the West, though I wouldn't be shocked to see it over here quite soon.

Who knows, perhaps it will have some bearing on that FF6 remake that so many people want to see on the new Nintendo portable. If you have a Wii and under ten bucks to drop, maybe give it a go if and when it gets here, eh?

If a 3DS remake is to be made anytime soon, it would have to be in production right now. I would think they are doing it. I would think that would be next in line, and its VC release wouldn't affect that.

Assuming it did get a Western release, I wonder if they'd do anything about renaming it back to FF6. Keeping its original FF3 title screen and moniker might prove a little confusing. It's not as if VC releases haven't had minor tweaks before, but I wonder if they'd make that step.

FFIV VC was called FFII like the original. I expect that they'll keep the FFIII title, despite the confusion.

My greatest regret in this lifetime has been failing to combine FFVI with Tae Bo or whatever it is Wii people do. Redemption at last!

I suspect they'll do something similair with the SNES game for the Wii as they did for the PSX: call it Final Fantasy VI Wii, weasel Woolsey's name out of the credits and call it a day. But I'm still getting it!

The GBA version was the best version they ever made. Because the original translation was a little poor. I still love FF6 and have a Wii, so I say why not.

The point of the VC is, IMO, to preserve the original games as they were originally released. They can give people the original version, and create a 3DS remake too. That way, for those of us that haven't played the game as it was originally conceived will get a chance to, and those of us that already have countless other ports will get what we've always wanted too.

Of course they can, nobody's saying they can't. Well, I might have implied it, but with tongue firmly in cheek. In fact, that's probably the biggest reason why it's newsworthy - so many people are begging for a game that hasn't been announced yet, and the fact that the original version is being released again in any form is amusing. smile.gif

I probably should have chosen the word "will" because Square likes its dinero.

Well, I think it's a great thing, because the game's finally being digitally preserved, so to speak. I've always been afraid that if my SNES breaks down one of these days, the original game would be lost. That's why I don't want GBA/PSX changes. I think the way that they originally made it should be preserved. I wish they could be able to place the entire NES/SNES catalog on there.
