I heard somewhere that Cloud was called Claus in the original Japanese. Can anyone confirm this?

Apparently his name was クラウド・ストライフ or Kuraudo Sutoraifu. Which might actually mean cloud. I think some of the Japanese (fan probably) translated scripts had Claus or Claude.

I looked up a Japanese game translation of the Japanese script on FF 7 Citadel, and his name was translated as Claude. -------------------- Currently playing Chrono Trigger !! Currently looking forward to Don't Know. |

Well that's very interesting cause I've heard that he was supposed to be Jean Claude Van Strife and Jean Claude Van Damme was originally cast as his voice in Advent Children...
