I heard somewhere that Cloud was called Claus in the original Japanese. Can anyone confirm this?

He was not. Apparently his name was クラウド・ストライフ or Kuraudo Sutoraifu. Which might actually mean cloud. I haven't a clue beyond that.

Heh. I'd heard it could have been Claude, though that could've been just someone guessing.

I've heard that too. Apparently some English-language game magazine had a screenshot with his name as Claude before the game was released in the United States.

Might be possible that that was a typ-o in that magazine. And you all know how things like that can build up.

It wasn't a typo, because it was the name of the character in a battle screenshot. I think it was just a very early build of the game before the script was finalized.

I think some of the Japanese (fan probably) translated scripts had Claus or Claude.

Oh.... Well, I can see why the change was made!

I looked up a Japanese game translation of the Japanese script on FF 7 Citadel, and his name was translated as Claude.

So we're saying... that FFVII almost would have been able to say "CLAUDE INCREASED" too? ohmy.gif

Well that's very interesting cause I've heard that he was supposed to be Jean Claude Van Strife and Jean Claude Van Damme was originally cast as his voice in Advent Children...

Sorry guys I couldn't resist. cool.gif
