Scarecrow was in Batman Begins? I guess I don't remember it that well. There was a ninja thing, and an explosion...and Gary Oldman... Haha.

Possible spoilers: highlight to view Scarecrow had seeded his hallucinogenic drugs into Gotham's water supply, and was going to use a microwave laser to vaporize it and spread the drugs throughout the city. My introduction to Bane came from Batman and Robin, so sadly, I have no good point of reference. Similarly, I was deprived of comic books as a child, so Jim Carey's Riddler was the first I saw of that villain, as well. It might be a bit of a stretch, and would it not theoretically be possible to introduce a villain normally seen opposite a different DC hero? |

Quote (Dragon_Fire @ 10th August 2008 17:47) Personally, I'd love to see an accurate portrayal of Selina Kyle/Catwoman. Especially now that Batman is being hunted, it would be interesting to see what kind of further darkness she could add to his character. After all, Catwoman has always been the temptation Batman could not resist. I couldn't have said it any better than this. I also think a little more Two-Face would be a very good idea. |

That artwork is absolutely spectacular. I mean, it looks good enough to be used professionally! I rather like the detail put into the newspaper, even the fine print is edited to look like it would be written for the third movie.
I'm not crazy about the idea of Harley Quinn as a stand-a-lone villain, especially given her overall campy nature and close affiliation with the Joker...but man, this makes me want a Riddler villain so much more. I'm really hoping on that. Oh, and as a side note...or is it back on topic? Anyways, I've seen Dark Knight a total of four times now and it still hasn't stopped impressing me. I mean, wow. Speaking was it just me or was there a file marked Lexcorp in the Asian accountant's office? David Tennant could make a good riddler. I think he'd have the skill to do that, and that art really bring those ideas to life. Seriously, those posters look like they were leaked by an actual company.

Wait, is that Doctor Who? Duuuude, that would be nice, all I've been hearing is Johnny Depp this, and Johnny Depp that, I even heard Orlando Bloom as riddler (Which I just don't get.. legolas as riddler?)
But seeing David Tennant as a possibility (even if it is fake) gets my geek gears a-goin. David's weird energy, if mixed with a bit more of whacko could REEALLY pull off Riddler. My only pause with Tennant is that they try to make Riddler be goofy... I don't want just a british Jim Carrey Riddler. I mean heck, David Tennant in my mind would probably do a better Riddler than Johnny Depp (but he'd prolly do well too). I do agree that Harvey without Joker is just bleh, or at least Harvey+Ivy... but you'd need some sorta story with Harvey and "Mr. J" first. I'd believe that they could start moving a bit more to the sci-fi stuff soon though, whether that will be good or bad remains to be seen. Well, looks like it won't be the Riddler.
Frankly, I'm happy about this. The Riddler can be an enjoyable villain but, as I've stated earlier in this thread, I was never enthusiastic about his possible inclusion in the next movie. I'm glad that Nolan resisted the temptation to cave into public pressure (because people were clearly rooting for the Riddler) and stayed true to his vision...whatever that is, details have been scarce. ![]() Tom Hardy has been cast, filming will be in New Orleans, and supposedly auditions are being held for a female lead. Other than that, not much is known about this highly anticipated sequel. I hope that the female lead is either Talia or Catwoman. I know the latter has been done already, but I think a cat burglar would fit well into Nolan's universe, plus she needs a credible screen role after the Halle Berry fiasco. |

The New Orleans location coincides with the outside geographical details of Gotham in the comics. It's a bit overly nerdy of me to know this trivia, but there is a great deal of swamp land just south of Gotham city, which is actually, what I think, could be a tell towards at least one of the possible upcoming villains:
Killer Croc. Now, I'm not entirely sure how this particular villain would fit into Nolan's more realistic take on the Dark Knight mythos, but it definitely would be a great pick. Certainly a much different obstacle to tackle than the more cerebral Joker in this giant, man-eating powerhouse. Certainly not enough of a staple character to stand on his own, though. I doubt he'd make his appearance in the films, despite his recent portrayl in the Under the Red Hood cartoon-movie, but I'd love to see Black Mask played on the big screen in addition to Croc. Mask is probably one of the more realistic characters and, well, gritty enough to flourish in Nolan's Gotham. Still holding out for Catwoman, too. I definitely suspect we'll get more Two Face, even if he can be considered dead. I mean, this is a super hero movie and let's face it, with the exception of Bruce's parents and Spidey's Uncle Ben, no one ever stays dead. -------------------- Okay, but there was a goat! |

I've heard the Killer Croc rumors and, like you, wondered how he would fit into Nolan's realism based universe. His defining attribute is that he's a giant crocodile man. Take that away and turn him into something like a wrestler with a crocodile theme and it doesn't seem to do the character justice.
Still, having done research on filming locations for school, I can tell you that New Orleans offers some of the best tax incentives for filming in the U.S. It might be totally unrelated to the plot that they are setting up shop there, and it could have just been the most cost effective place to film. I also like the idea of Black Mask and think he would fit well into Nolan's universe, particularly if paired with Catwoman. They had a very tense story arc recently Possible spoilers: highlight to view which ended with Catwoman killing him. Quote I mean, this is a super hero movie and let's face it, with the exception of Bruce's parents and Spidey's Uncle Ben, no one ever stays dead. It's funny you mention this, because I've heard a variation of it that went "the only people who stay dead in comic books are Jason Todd and Uncle Ben," but clearly the former is no longer true. ![]() |

Killer Croc was amongst those who I wondered "How could he even work", but of the "goofier" Batman bad guys, he might work if they're careful. But, it's worth noting, he appeared in the (non-Nolanverse-canon) Gotham Knight animated shorts.
Riddler would have worked, but they'd need to make him a credible threat, or just a sideline to the main event. He's always been a more psychological villain in his better performances, and since I think the only way he'd work after Batman Forever would be a quiet, calculating type. Black Mask... A mob boss taking on a taste for the theatrical as well. Pretty simple to integrate Catwoman, also simple enough in a world where a Welshman dresses as a bat and growls at everyone. Apart from that, you're running out of bad guys who're really able to transfer without it being more or less in name only. Penguin as a Mob Boss, Mr. Freeze would have to be a serial killer (Even liquid nitrogen is hard to obtain let alone a freeze gun that's non-lethal depending on the writer) who puts the bodies on ice or something, and some of the b-grade rogues would be too shallow. Firefly for example, would just be a pyromaniac. But yeah... Black Mask, Catwoman, and maybe Killer Croc. That's a lineup that could work. Or, Nolan could have been tricksy there. He was just saying the Riddler won't be the villain... Or perhaps the emphasis should be the villain. The Clock King. Not the absurdly masked one, but the efficiency- and punctuality-obsessed one. I wish it was him and the Riddler (I know you guys want a Depp Riddler, but I'd perfer an NPH Riddler), but alas, no Riddler for us.

I am absolutely excited to see Bane redeemed on the silver screen. I mean, his portrayal in the Shumacher film was outright absurd. Bane, after all, is one of the only villains in the DC universe to ever break Batman. Literally, in snapping his spine over his knee and figuratively with the insane mind games he's played with Bruce over the years. In the right hands (Nolan's, hopefully!) Bane could be a brilliant move.
As for Selina Kyle, it would be silly to have her featured and NOT bring up the Catwoman aspect of her personality, as she, much like Batman, identifies more with her masked persona and views her "day-time face" as the pretend identity. -------------------- Okay, but there was a goat! |
