Tonepoet's post about how CoN folk aren't interested in iOS Squenix games (thread: http://www.cavesofnarshe.com/forums/ipb/in...howtopic=14992) made me curious as to how many people who visit here even have a device on which to play them. Pretty simple poll followed naturally.
For my money, I've got a 3GS, and will probably upgrade to a 4 next year when my contract's up. I don't have a single game installed on it, and I don't think I have any interest in doing so, really. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

I have no such devices. My phone is a messaging phone with a keyboard, not a smartphone. For my data communication needs, I use my computer.

I'm not interesting in investing in one of those devices and I flat out don't have the coin to purchase it in the first place.

I don't have one currently, but would like to get an iPod Touch. I like my cell phone for what it is and don't need the bells and whistles of an iPhone on the 3/4G network. I'll do fine with just accessing web/games from a wireless hotspot, thanks.
For the moment, though, it's not a priority in my budget, so I've done without. -------------------- Games on the Go Final Fantasy VII Final Fantasy: Four Warriors of Light Baldur's Gate Too much to play, so little time! Greg |

I've had an iPod touch for the last two years, and briefly had an iPhone until, like all things in my possession long enough, I broke it. The iPod is still thriving, miraculously. I used to feel kind of dirty, owning Apple products, because I felt an iPod was just a glorified mp3 player, an iPhone, a gloried smart phone. Well, that's not an opinion that lasted very long! My iPod has literally become an extra limb. I never go anywhere without it, ever.
I have Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, Megaman II, Final Fantasy I and II, along with a few other titles on my iPod, which I play with some frequency while traveling about. I can't imagine them ever being true, dedicated, portable gaming devices, but for what they do, it's done well. For all intents and purposes, the Final Fantasy titles are direct PSP ports, which is a pretty impressive feat to throw on your mp3 player or smart phone, no? And I'll definitely be grabbing Tactics when that eventually is released. -------------------- Okay, but there was a goat! |

I went to the Apple store the other day, and checked out the iPad.
Isn't that thing basically an underpowered computer, or a large-size PDA? -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. My friend's dad is a lawyer and apparently his iPad has overtaken both his pen and paper and his laptop. He takes it everywhere and he says it's especially useful in meetings. I'd go with large PDA. I don't have any of the above. I'm looking to get an iPhone after my Blackberry's contract is up. I wasn't sure I would actually use the extra features or apps but now I'm sure I would. My girlfriend's iPhone's IMDB app is a standard reference point when we're talking about films or after watching one. That alone is worth it. There should be an option in this poll that shows who doesn't have any of these things, otherwise you don't have a point of reference for your numbers.
I use a phone to call people and talk to them, and that's about it. |

I got an iPod Touch and a $15 iTunes gift card for Christmas. Honestly, it's pretty awesome. I have Verizon, so my phone is now useless. If this was an iPhone, I would have it grafted to my hand.
... Okay, bad idea. Keep your fruit away from me. But yeah, they rock. I'm addicted to Final Fantasy I and II on it, if only they didn't take up battery so fast. :L -------------------- ENUO > you. It's just a proven fact. Why should the aged angel stretch its wings? |

I also got an Ipod touch for Christmas. Honestly though, I haven't even used it's WiFi. I've barely had any chance to use it at all, actually, and I'm gonna try-n go be one of those guys at the Coffee shop after I get paid next week. Not much of an on-the-goer here.

To update, I bought myself a 4th generation iPod Touch for Christmas, so... I guess I've joined the iOS crew now!
I do enjoy it, though. it's loads of fun to play with and very useful too, I find. -------------------- Games on the Go Final Fantasy VII Final Fantasy: Four Warriors of Light Baldur's Gate Too much to play, so little time! Greg |

I have none of these things. I have a... normal phone, slightly adapted for taking better photos, I think, but it's pretty standard. Been thinking of getting an iPhone, but it just feels like something you mess around with when you're bored..

Nah. The only Apple product I own is an iPod nano, and my real phone is a pretty old model (although it's new enough to have a camera, so... 3 or 4 years old?).

Quote (Rangers51 @ 14th November 2010 13:35) Quote (finalalias @ 14th November 2010 15:12) There should be an option in this poll that shows who doesn't have any of these things, otherwise you don't have a point of reference for your numbers. I use a phone to call people and talk to them, and that's about it. It's in no way a scientific poll whatsoever. I don't really care if i have a reference. While it's a somewhat flawed method, we can compare poll tallies. 8 People voted on this survey where you can't say now and the poll tallies for the Music Contest range from about 30-40 voters, with a guesstimated 33-34 average. So it's possible that just a little under 1/4th of our regular forumgoers have iOS devices. Personally I don't. While the products themselves seems very, very appealing the policies behind them are prohibitive megalomaniacal tyrany. It's precisely the sort of monopoly Microsoft refugees once sought out Apple for in the hopes of gaining sanctuary, except taken to the next level by imposing all sorts of rules and restrictions. At least assuming you use the device as designed. Until there are third party sources for apps, a variety of telephone service providers and maybe even Adobe's Flash if I'm lucky I'm not buyin' it. Mostly as a manner of principal. Well, at least not for myself. I got an iPod Touch for mother as an early Christmas gift because she wanted an MP3 player and she's not terribly tech savvy, so she wouldn't care about, understand or even need to know about most of my concerns. I figured an Apple's option would integrate more seamlessly with her Macbook, it has a decently sized screen to read song lists off of and she loved the neighbor's iPhone. Perhaps most importantly she's perfectly happy with her current no frills cellular phone and the cheaper phone service that comes along with it. I would still openly reject any offers of a gift to me as a simple waste though. I'd much rather have the freedom of a laptop, any laptop, over the gimmicky features of say an iPad. Perhaps this is all a bit hypocritical of an avid console gamer like me. However I generally tend to view console restrictions as a necessary part of optimization of a specialized tool, as opposed to arbitrary limitations that only serve to cripple the product. Unless we're talking about the PS3 and OtherOS buuut that's another subject entirely... As for my last post, Square isn't swayin' anybody to the iPhone like they did from the N64 to the Playstation and I think incorporating a decent game interface is tricky, as phone elements get in the way of game elements and visa versa. There aren't really any optimal options out there yet, as even the iPhone with its multipurpose touch screen and fully customizable GUI forces your thumbs to cover parts of the screen. Until there's a simplistic yet elegant way to solve this problem that'll fit comfortably in both our hands and our pockets, I still don't think it'll work. =P This post has been edited by Tonepoet on 4th January 2011 11:49 -------------------- |
