I bought the game a few months back and finally started playing it over break. From what I've played so far, it seems like a very interesting and unique game. At the same time, though, it appears to be less known than most RPGs from the same time period. Despite the fact that it seems to have gotten quite good reviews, I read somewhere that only 75,000 copies of the game were ever sold in the US. I wonder what the reason for this was?
Who else here on CoN has played VP, and what are your thoughts on the game? As far as plot is concerned, it's very tragic, which I find an interesting change of pace. The battle system has caught my interest, though I'll admit I'm still discovering new things about it each time I play. I'm currently entering Lezard's tower, where I'm afraid that I'm terribly outmatched. -------------------- Currently Playing : Final Fantasy V Most Recently Beat : Elder Scrolls: Skyrim Favorite Game : Final Fantasy X The newest CoNcast is up! I had it when it was released. Compared to the other games that were out at that time, I really did not care for it. It had more of a wannabe Zeldaish type of feel instead of a traditional JRPG which is the style I like.
I dont know about the actual number of the released copies but if you search games on Ebay, it definitely ranks among one of the most expensive (right up there with Suikoden 2). |

I've owned it for the past 5 years or so, buying it off one of my high school friends. It really is a true original - worth playing if you can get your hands on it. Haven't finished it yet, personally.

Well, I've beaten the game now and overall I was pretty pleased. The characters and their backgrounds continued to be compelling through the end. I was able to finish it in about 27 hours, which was kinda nice too.
Unfortunately, due to a bit of a mixup on my part, I was unable to get the best ending, which was a bit of a shame since the second leaves quite a bit to be desired. From what I've seen on youtube, the best ending is actually pretty good though. If you're on track to get the best ending (I screwed it up early, before I fully understood), there are several extra scenes along the way, and an entirely different final dungeon. I imagine all this would make Valkyrie Profile quite an improved experience. So, if anyone here is thinking about giving the game a shot, be sure to either look up or ask here what the requirements are to recieve the A ending. They're really simple things that require almost no extra work, but they're things that you've got to keep in mind. It is an interesting, good game either way, but getting the best ending and everything that comes with it seem to make it quite a bit better. -------------------- Currently Playing : Final Fantasy V Most Recently Beat : Elder Scrolls: Skyrim Favorite Game : Final Fantasy X The newest CoNcast is up!
