The Prelude, Aeris' Theme and Reunion are my longtime favourites...
The Prelude is the opening credit song. Aeris' Theme was played at the very end of Disc 1. Reunion is played Possible spoilers: highlight to view inside the Northern Cave in that place where you get the Shield materia. Anxious Heart has always been my favourite piece, followed by Aeris' Theme, and then the Main Overworld Theme.

It's not just how good the music is on its own, it's also used really well in the game. I sometimes wonder whether the music was recorded before the scenes were fully written, and the writers had the music to adjust the script accordingly.
Anxious Heart is such a heavy piece. I think it's best usage is early in Midgar when Avalanche are on the train and Cloud says "[the slum people] have no choice where to go. It's like this train, it goes wherever the rails take it." Or something along those lines. Then the camera zooms out to see the train. I always seem to time it, accidentally, so that the best part of the tune comes on when the train is in full screen. It's such a brilliant image, and the music adds a lot of weight to the scene. The one that I think is brilliant is Sandy Badlands, played in the desert prison. Also The Nightmare Begins is class as well. -------------------- Scepticism, that dry rot of the intellect, had not left one entire idea in his mind. Me on the Starcraft. |
