Simple really. Please pick your rock n roll king for each decade, or any decade you like. Then at the end let's pick an overall King.

Two things to explain. I know a whole decade can be a bit difficult, but you could put down a few and then a winner. 5 years doesn't have the same impact as 'decade'. Also, by king I mean who is the most rock n roll. They don't have to play rock music or anything like that, they just have to be rock n roll! You can decide what to define it as. I think of it as drugs, getting arrested, fights within the band and outside the band, ridiculous live performances, questionable mental health, loads of women, and a memorable and usually tragic death.

50s
Frank Sinatra. He fits the bill. I like to think of him as rock n roll before people knew what it was.

60s
Sinatra has him in the 50s, but the 60s were for Elvis ahead of John Lennon, Bob Dylan, Eric Burdon and others. He's known as the King but I don't agree. He's great in this decade but overall not the winner.

70s
Mick Jagger with the Rolling Stones. What a legend. He's rock n roll all the way. Sid Vicious with the Sex Pistols comes in a very close second.

80s
Michael Jackson. Hard choice here. In a different way rock n roll. His music probably wasn't in any way whatsoever, but he is a performer and a massive personality. And his introverted mental lifestyle was 100% rock n roll in a strange way. For me anyway.

90s
Kurt Cobain with Nirvana. Very hard choice here. Noel Gallagher with Oasis not far away.

00s
Pete Doherty with The Libertines. Like him or loath him he's rock n roll. Drugs, arrests, band fighting, baying obsessive fans, supermodels, he's got it all.

Overall
I'll go with Mick Jagger.

You kidding? A rock and roll list... with no Chuck Berry? Chuck Berry invented rock and roll!

Meanwhile, Lennon/McCartney for the 60s. I can't choose between them, because what they did together was so wonderful.

70s, yeah, I'd choose the Stones. Overall, I'd choose the Stones too. They're the epitome of rock and roll. Mick Jagger is the coolest dude ever!

But, for the 70s, a personal pick for me is Rod Stewart. I thought his music was always so varied.

For the 80s, for me, it's not question. Stevie Ray Vaughan. When everybody else was synthesized, he was raw and powerful, like rock and roll should be.

90s, Kurt Cobain. He's the one guy of that decade... I can think of, lol. At least the only one that challenged the form.

00s, Jack White is amazing, kinda like Stevie Ray, raw. Fantastic guitarist.

Overall, though, I agree with you about Mick Jagger, but I'd choose the entire band instead.
