This morning, it occurred to me to make this very unscientific and unplanned poll out of personal curiosity. How many of you know what your blood type is? And if you do know, at what age do you remember learning it?

You're probably wondering what the deal with this poll is, and I am ever so anxious to tell you! But, so as to maintain a very slight guise of impartiality, I've written my discussion about this poll beyond the spoiler tags below. If you'd like to reply and discuss, I'd appreciate it if you first reply (or start writing your reply, or take a memo) with:
1) Your answer to the poll (Yes or No, plus any additional details you want to add)
2) The country(ies) you were raised in (Plus, any information you'd like to share about the background of your ancestry.)
3) What your blood type is, if you know it and want to share

So, if you think you'd like to participate, please write those down now, honestly, and then continue on to my whirling musings beyond the spoiler tag. smile.gif

Possible spoilers: highlight to view
This is a spoiler tag.

It is very big.

And spread out.

Because some people have nice, big monitors.

Some quick web searches have shown that I'm not the only person to throw this question on the web, and with CoN having an American majority in its audience, I know results here won't constitute any representative sample beyond one of people who post on forums of English-language Final Fantasy themed websites.

But, I'm getting ahead of myself:
The main motivation behind this question is my personal experience. I did not know what my own blood type was until I was nearly 20, and I only had to learn it then because I was moving out of the country. My blood type had apparently not been recorded on any of my medical documents, including my birth certificate. So, I had to ask to find out. I requested a test done at my local clinic, after which they took my blood, sent the sample away to a hospital, and I waited about 2 weeks for the results.

In some other countries, this kind of thing would be unheard of: You may have heard that Japanese people treat blood types like horoscopes, divining a person's characteristics and tendencies based on the type of blood he or she has (or guessing blood type based on a person's personalities.) This is also why anime and Japanese game character bios also include blood type info.

But, it's not just Japan. Other countries treat blood type as an important piece of information; apparently Turkish elementary students are all expected to know and be able to provide their blood type when asked.

So, I'd like to learn a bit more about this. I wonder how many users here know their blood type, and if we can see any trend here depending on where users are from. I know many users are from the U.S., but maybe we can find something interesting relating to family background. If a big part of your family tree comes from a country where blood type is important, will you know your blood type?

Maybe you've heard about this before, and can share an interesting story for us. Maybe some of you can tell about other countries where blood type is a big deal.

Those are some of the casual curiosities on my mind and why I decided to post today. I'm eagerly awaiting your poll answers and thoughts and a good old-fashioned General Topics discussion.

Side comments about blood types relating to personalities and frequencies of blood types around the world are also welcome! I mean, while we're at it, let's just beat this topic into the ground!

Yeah, I've known mine since I was a kid, although I sometimes need to remind myself, because I very rarely need to inform anyone of what it is.

I knew mine when I was a little kid, but I couldn't tell you what it is now for the life of me. The last time I can remember knowing was the last time I gave blood, and that would have been early in Uni. I'm in, and always have been in, the States.

Oh ! I've been studying the japanese theory of bloody-type personality for years. Supposedly O's make good leaders and are talented at sports, B's are black sheeps and are completely different from the rest of society, A's are good at artistic things and being creative, while AB's make brilliant psychologist's. smile.gif

1 I don't know.
2 New Zealand
3 I think that I'm B-

Also read manga character information and you might find out their bloodtypes, also the FF VII, FF VI and FF VIII characters have their bloodtypes available to read and find out about. Cloud, Setzer Squall are AB's. Seifer, Rinoa, Zell, Barret Edgar Sabin Locke, Aerith are 0's. Tifa, Celes, Relm, Gau, Cid are B's. And Irvine, Selphie, Cyan ,Vincent and Yuffie are A's.

Oh. Also A and B's clash and don't get along.
A's and O's are best friends.
AB's have the power and ability to get along with everybody.

1) I have never bothered to ask. It isn't labeled on our birth certificates here either, and I never thought about it any time I've ever had blood drawn. I probably should find out, though!

1) I actually found out when I was a kid; I was starting a game of Harvest Moon on my GBC, and for some reason there was a space where one could enter one's blood type (go figure). I asked my folks what my blood type was, and they told me. Yaaaaay. ('Twas later confirmed when I became a blood donor)

1. Nope, never had blood drawn. I'm a wuss and can't donate blood.
2. U. S. of A.
3. N/A

I called the doctor up one day because at school we were required to give our blood type for some research project. They didn't have it on record so I made one up. I thought about donating blood *cringe* or getting it tested for blood type, but I'm paranoid that they'll find something wrong with me like diabetes...

Yeah, I know, I'm lame. Oh well, maybe sometime I'll find it out. My mom told me her blood type (A+) so if I ever remember to ask my dad I can figure out the possibilities.
