I vote... Sauce. Sauce is the best thing about a Pizza... When I get a pizza I order it with a cup of Marinara sauce and dip the pizza in it. I can even eat the pizza with just sauce and bread.

dough >>> crust. Even though it's plain, it still tastes real good!!

Quote (TheEvilEye @ 22nd October 2002 19:15) The Supreme pizzas™® rule!! All those onions, peppers, mushrooms, mmmm....but nothin tops it off like a nice hearty portion of CHEESE! It's been 8 years since I made my decision on this tough poll. But gone are the days of my Supreme Pizza loving (and all of the stomache aches that resulted from it), ushered in by a new era of appreciation for the delicious cornerstone of pizza, the dough. Thick crust pizza is my mantra, and I never leave them on the plate. Pizza hut in particular has my favorite dough, but all in all every pizza is made better when they don't scrimp on the dough. Most of my buddies say "Dude, what is wrong with you? The more crust you eat, the less pizza you get to enjoy!" but I just laugh at their foolish ways. I was like them once, piling on the toppings, but through the years I have realized what truly differentiates each and every pizza in deliciousness: The wonderful, WONDERFUL bread! The sauce is okay but more often than not burns my tongue and the roof of my mouth because I can't wait the 1 extra minute to let it cool. So I wouldn't vote for something that hurts. The cheese is my second favorite. I've learned that all the toppings in the world only take away from how much delicious cheese you get to eat per pizza, and therefore have a much more solid appreciation for all that is cheesy. Also, stuffed crust pizza is amazing, making my favorite part of the pizza even tastier. And because dough is king, BREADSTICKS are the greatest thing in the world. (This is the one occurrence I would put Sauce in 2nd place) Have any of you ever changed your minds over these long years? This post has been edited by TheEvilEye on 3rd December 2010 18:12 |

I think that the extremely important and complex nature of this thread totally warrants EE's revival
![]() I'm going to have to go with sauce, as that really makes or breaks the pizza as a whole. Sure, I love a good crust, good cheese and good toppings, but, if the sauce is messed up, it can ruin the whole thing. Too much or too little, and the rest of the pizza is ruined. If the sauce is poor quality, it will often drown out the other elements of a pizza. When a sauce is done right, however, it pulls all the ingredients of the pizza together. Toppings are nothing without the three foundational ingredients: cheese, dough and sauce. Without the sauce, though, you just have cheesey bread. Which is nice, don't get me wrong, but a far cry from pizza. In addition, sauce can have such intricate flavoring, adding a whole new level of complexity to the overall taste of the pizza. -------------------- Currently Playing : Final Fantasy V Most Recently Beat : Elder Scrolls: Skyrim Favorite Game : Final Fantasy X The newest CoNcast is up! Wow, epic thread necro. A thread so ancient not even I have posted in it.
Well, I like the part that isn't the edge. Though I eat it anyway too. So, basically, sauce, cheese, toppings, AND dough. All of it. At the same time. Though the edge is also nice when I have Papa John's garlic sauce for dipping... -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. I voted cheese because lets face it:lasagna and pizza are not lasagna or pizza without cheese.

The dough is the foundation, it all begins at the crust. If the dough is bad the pizza is bad. It's true that all of the ingredients play their part, but it's the dough that holds it all (quite literally) together. I've eaten pizza without cheese, without sauce, without topping and it still works. You can NOT have a pizza without some sort of crust and still call it pizza.
The crust of the pizza is what makes it pizza for me. For what it's worth, though, I know of one lactose-intolerant person who enjoys her pizza without cheese.

I go for the dough, with sauce as a close second. I've had some delicious cheeseless pizzas (carmelised onions in place of the cheese...amazing!) but you always need dough.

The best part is "all of it." I suppose if I had to pick a single aspect though, I'd go with the sauce. Mmmm....There's nothing better than savory pizza sauce.
