I am not sure if anyone reads these boards but I may as well ask. I have a few questions.
1) Can you change the default ability for a job? A thief for example starts with steal but later gets mug ... can you swap them out somehow (without some sort of hack)? 2) The "Bare" job mentions in the job section of this board that is has the mastered abilities of the job. So if I pick "Blue" magic from a fully mastered blue mage and I get hit with an unknown blue magic, would he still learn it as if he was indeed a blue mage or would I have to have learning as an ability as well? |

Quote 1) Can you change the default ability for a job? A thief for example starts with steal but later gets mug ... can you swap them out somehow (without some sort of hack)? No, you cannot change a job's primary ability. You could set the secondary ability as !MUG once you get it, but you will always have !STEAL while playing a thief. Quote 2) The "Bare" job mentions in the job section of this board that is has the mastered abilities of the job. So if I pick "Blue" magic from a fully mastered blue mage and I get hit with an unknown blue magic, would he still learn it as if he was indeed a blue mage or would I have to have learning as an ability as well? I dunno about that one. A Bare with mastered Thief can still see secret passages without the Find Passages ability, so maybe... -------------------- "My name is Atma...I am a power both ancient and unrivaled... I do not bleed, for I am but strength given form...Feeble creatures of flesh...Your time is nigh!" |

Yeah, Bare inherits any passive skills that the character masters. I've never actually looked to see if they gain Learning, but I don't see why that should be the exception.

I was afraid of the first answer. And the second answer is what I wanted. Thanks much!

I think the only exception is auto-berserk from the Berserker class.

Quote (Glenn Magus Harvey @ 15th August 2010 07:51) I think the only exception is auto-berserk from the Berserker class. That, and undead status from Necromancer in the GBA version. Quote (Aeris-Logan) The "Bare" job mentions in the job section of this board that is has the mastered abilities of the job. So if I pick "Blue" magic from a fully mastered blue mage and I get hit with an unknown blue magic, would he still learn it as if he was indeed a blue mage or would I have to have learning as an ability as well? Yep! Any passive ability (save the aforementioned berserk and undead statuses) is already transferred to Mime and Freelancer/Bare upon mastery of the job, as well as the stat bonuses without any of the penalties. So if you master, say, Black Mage, you'll have the magical strength of a Black Mage without any of the reduced physical strength. This can get rather insane (in the good way) if you master numerous jobs, since a single Freelancer could dual-wield (Ninja), cover for critical allies (Knight), counterattack automatically (Monk), automatically cast Shell when critically wounded (Mystic Knight), block attacks (Samurai), double the effect of potions and ethers (Chemist)... It's never a bad idea to take turns having a member of your party as a Blue Mage. Ideally, all four characters would eventually master the job, so in the endgame, when your party is likely completely Mimes and Freelancers, your entire party has the Learning ability. -------------------- |
