Just wondering. If Final Fantasy XV. 15. Is just as mediocre as Final Fantasy XIII ? Would you give up on the Final Fantasy series and move on to enjoy something else ? Maybe try and enjoy a newer or different RPG series. Or you will you keep on being loyal to the company, no matter what happens ?

To be honest. I already feel like giving up on the future of the Final Fantasy series. XII was boring, and XIII felt like a rushed and lazy job, concerted souly on graphics and appearance. Not to mention all the money, that SE wants to take from us. They are starting to sound like a greedy, megalomaniac company. With all the FF VII sequels, prequels and Kingdom Hearts spin-offs, and now FF 13-2 and FF XIV being another online game, it's starting to get really ridiculous.

But what do you think ? If Final Fantasy XV is horrible, will it be the final, last straw for you ?

I don't know, I'll probably stick around but just be more hesitant to buy the games.

I'm like that now, actually. I bought XI and XII without a second thought, and after NOT playing XII (I just couldn't get into it), waited until reviews came out and only bought XIII after a friend mentioned liking it.
I even bought X-2, and umm, never want to do a mini-game that requires you to pair up monkeys so they can mate again, but it was more casual fun, and I didn't mind that.

Also, "Souly" haha.

If XV sucks, it'll be the last one I'll actually BUY unless I hear great things about one of the future games, then I'll give it a shot. So basically, I'll be reading up on some reviews for future games before buying.

I won't say it would end, but it would need to have a retooling if that does happen. I myself am of the camp that loved XII, and thought it was a great game, so I don't think the series would go down the tube with just two bad titles.

(I hate to do this, sorry cousin) Look at Sonic. When was the last good Sonic game released? The answer might be the one that's about to be released. And Sonic's still around.

Yeah, I liked XII too. It had a weak story and main villain, but the gameplay, graphics and everything else more than made up for it.

Yeah, so that's why I don't think it will end, even though the JRPG itself is going through a difficult period.

To be honest, I've pretty much given up after XIII. Unless I hear absolutely 90-100% glowing reviews for XV, it'll probably be the first Final Fantasy game since III that I don't buy. With Megami Tensei picking up the slack in JRPGs, I really don't feel the need to pander to Squeenix if they're not going to pander to me.

Honestly I dont think I will buy another FF game unless I hear it's amazing either. My brother bought FFXIII and told me it wasn't that great so he gave it to me knowing he would never play it. I started playing it and from the beginning knew it was utter crap. Lately I've found myself plugging my PS2 in and playing either Shin Megami Tensei games or any other RPG made by Atlus. Final Fantasy is getting too stale.

First, isn't that how it always is? Secondly, I don't think just one bad title makes something stale.

Yeah, but I didn't like XII like you did, Blitz, and I thought that X was merely 'passable'. To be honest, there hasn't been a Final Fantasy that's really lit me up since IX, which says something about either the way the company's evolved or the way that I've grown up, probably a little of both. But since the merger SquareEnix has not developed a title that I really care about. They've published a few solid ones by other developers (Valkyrie Profile and Drakengard come to mind) but the company hasn't done much themselves that I can get excited about. I don't want to go into a big rant about how Squareenix sucks or anything, since clearly there are those that still enjoy their product, and like I said I'm glad that right around the time I realized that Squeenix wasn't doing it for me anymore, Atlus came down like a messenger from above to give me product nearly equal to Square's golden years in the 90s. But yeah, I'll have to hear some amazing reviews before I'll bother with XV, is the sad truth.

Yeah, but my point is that both of those games were critically acclaimed. And really, that was four games ago. My comparison to Sonic still stands.

Heh heh, yeah but I haven't bought a Sonic game since "& Knuckles" so I'm just as merciless to platformers. And it may have only been 4 games, but it's also been 10 years, remember. And, for better or for worse, 10 years is an eternity in the gaming industry. Like I said this is all just my opinion, and I did think both X and XII had fine ideas that were just presented in a substandard way. From 1990 to 2000 Square did almost no wrong, releasing nearly nothing but good games. They may still be releasing nothing but good games, but they're not games I'm interested in, and every writer/composer/director I idolized, sans Kitase, has flown the coop. Squaresoft was a silicon god to me as a child. SquaneEnix is not for me.

More thoughts: And for what it's worth, if the new Sonic really looks good I'll give it a spin. Likewise, if somehow XV turns out to be amazing, I'll eat my words. You heard it here, folks!

I am playing FFXIII grinding.

The grinding at grand pulse is kinda monotonous and well there are a bunch of missions to get to 5 stars, other than that, its a disappointment.

If FFXV is like that, well then i think its the end.

In fact,i've already given up on final fantasy before FFXIII came out because i lost hope.

I guess I'm not nearly so doom and gloom as you guys are, but I'm generally someone who is relatively easily satisfied. I liked both FFXII and FFXIII: not to the degree or scale, of course, as I liked FFVI-FFX, but I liked certain elements of each game quite a bit. I most likely will not play FFXIV because of its online-ness, but I will certainly play FFVersusXIII, and it's a strong bet that I'll give FFXV a go as well. To be honest, I can't see myself not playing the new FF games as they come out: I may not get to them immediately and it's most likely I will not find them as thrilling as FFX, but I'm a bit too much of a sentimentalist to not play them.

I rather loved XII. I do not understand the hate it gets.

That aside, I have not yet played XIII due to my lack of appropriate hardware. Thus, I cannot judge it. However, I'm going to say that all non-MMO main-series entries are an auto-buy for me. Side games are probably not going to make it into my collection unless they've gotten great reviews and appeal to me. I've been burned by spinoffs too many times...Dirge of Cerberus, Tactics A2, Revenant Wings...

I'm with you and Blitz Sage. I enjoyed XII with what I played of it. I never finished it because I was at a time in my life when I was doing something different. I plan on picking it up soon.

With that being said, am I enjoying XIII? No not really. But out of all the mainline FF games that they've made I've only not enjoyed VIII and XIII. Sometimes they're just gonna miss a few and I've come to accept that as a gamer. Will I buy XIII Versus, probably. Will I buy XV probably. Each time for me that an FF game has kind of sucked, the next one was always so awesome. VIII sucked. IX amazing. XIII sucks. Maybe XV will be amazing.

I haven't played FFXIII yet (and likely won't play XIV), XIII due to not having a PS3 or XBox 360, and in XIV's case it being online.

I imagine the series going for sometime, but I feel some spin-offs from the main series might be possible I think in the forseeable future.

It is the 5th best selling game series, after all.
