Some people on TV Tropes are trying to get me to play DOOM.

Heh. Well, at the very least, my advantage for waiting over a decade is that all the dust has settled and all the good stuff precipitates out.

I finished Cave Story for the first time yesterday. Beyond that, I'm still playing FFT PSP, a used copy of FIFA 09 that I got Friday night, and every once in a while I pop in Bioshock.

Finally just finished that playthrough of FFT PSP. I was blocked for so long because I was playing a game with no leveling battles, and the battle against Balich towards the end of the game was really brutal. Also, it didn't help that I tend to only play my PSP when I'm on an airplane, which is only about four times a year. Either way, got it done now!

I finally got around to getting the Scott Pilgrim demo this weekend and I immediately fell in love. Unlocked the full game last night, and I've played through two of the Exes. It really is the spiritual successor to River City Ransom with a healthy dose of TMNT: The Arcade Game thrown in. After about three hours' play, it would probably be my frontrunner for Game of the Year, even as a downloadable game, if only it had online multi. If only. sad.gif

Old-school, paper and pencil, tabletop Dungeons and Dragons. My first time playing the real thing. We're playing 4th edition. It's pretty entertaining so far. We have a good group for it.

I guess you could call it "Secret of Mana 2". Secret of Mana is Seiken Densetsu 2.

Out of jealousy for not being able to play Donkey Kong Country Returns, I'm replaying DKC 1-3 on emulator. I had rented all of them, but never beat any of them (!?). I *did* however beat all the first two Donkey Kong Land games on the Game Boy.

On top of that, i just recently finished God of War: Ghost of Sparta (weakest game in the series, but still pretty good), and I'm trying to beat Torchlight a third time for the Hat Trick achievement (beat the game with all three characters).

Sorry, didn't notice people had responded to me...yes, Seiken Densetsu 3 is Secret of Mana 2, and FF Adventure is Seiken Densetsu 1. Lots of fun if you've never played it.

Playing a few games at the moment:

Mass Effect 2 (On my second playthrough, got some of the DLC now)
F1 2010 (Good game, but hard even with some driving aids)
Final Fantasy XIII (Up to chapter 10 I believe. Big boss battle just before was bloody hard)

Ys books 1&2. I finally broke down and bought the LAN for the Wii, hooked it up last night, spent my $10 for 1000 points, bought the Turbo Grafx CD version of Ys on Virtual console and proceeded to disconnect my LAN. Been playing the game ever since! It brings back the memories of high school when the game was first released and I drove around listening to the actual game in my CD player.

The first four games in the Secret of Mana / Seiken Densetsu series:

Final Fantasy Adventure (SD1)
Secret of Mana (SD2)
Seiken Densetsu 3 (never came out officially in the US, sometimes called Secret of Mana 2)
Legend of Mana

SoM and SD3 are great - play them if you haven't. SD3 is Japan-only, but has had a complete patch out for at least ten years. FFA is okay, but very dated; it had a GBA remake several years ago called Sword of Mana. Legend of Mana... isn't bad, but it's very weird. Some people love it, some people really don't like it. I'm undecided on it; haven't gotten very far.

Do you understand now?

Fifa 11 far too much. It's just a habit if there's more than two people in the living room at once. Not played anything else in a while but I'm firing up WoW again for the first time in ages.

I've grown to really love 11. The best way of scoring in 10 was to walk or pass through the middle, crosses were generally worthless unless you were likely to win in the air, and Peter Crouch is in your team. In 11 however crosses and especially corners are just as likely to produce goals. The balancing is generally better. Also sliding tackles are a bit more homing so they're used more. Also in 11 you're a lot less likely to be able to do three direct passes from GK to ST like in 10, so the transition can be jarring at first. There's also more contact in 11 off the ball where players with strength can prevent a speedy runner from whipping past them. It's more realistic, but don't let that put you off, it does make for a more interesting attacking game. 11 is a bit slower in passing and running and that can almost seem frustrating to begin with is you're moving from 10. However overall it's worth it because the game is a lot more varied and playing to the strengths of different teams and players is crucial. Also the 11 v 11 online games are hilarious, especially in goals. Normally I'd be against buying the next year's game for the sake of updated players, however I'd have bought this if my housemate didn't already.

Also just finished Strike Gunner. Well, with cheating of course, but what don't I cheat at when it comes to these games... Oh, btw, the Photon Cannon sucks. And the level 7 boss takes FOR. EV. ER. to beat.

I also just got Super Street Fighter IV, and I'm kind of regretting it... I'm SO terrible at this type of fighter, I can't pull off half the special moves or ultras/supers. I fear even going online because I'd be losing so often I doubt I'd get any better. Whatever, I'll just wait for the upcoming MK game and get my fighting chops there.

Just a suggestion to anybody who loves the classic platformers: please play Donkey Kong Country Returns. It has perhaps the best level design I've ever seen in a platforming game. It's really a fantastic game.

Recently beat Henry Hatsworth: The Puzzling Adventure, and I gotta say, the creators were aiming at putting the "Nintendo Hard" into their game with quite some enthusiasm.
Also, summonning a huge steampunk robot suit by drinking tea is awesome!

The on-going CoNtest got me to do another play-through of FFIX not too long ago; good times. Now, after probably eight years, I'm playing FFVI again. Maybe XII's next? Ah, it's been a long while since I've wanted to do this much console gaming...
