I voted for Cecil(the Dark Knight Cecil).I hate his depressed,self-pitying attitude."Boohoohoo,I'm just a dark knight, nobody loves me!"."I'm just a dark knight,I'm just a dark knight,I'm just a dark knight...",geez!You'd think we all got it the first time!

Call me crazy, but I LIKE Edward. Sure he's useless in a fight, but I do like the whole Harp-as-weapon thing for the little while that you have it, and he's just so cuuuuute...smile.gif Plus I like his little one-on-one fight sequence in the desert.

Whee! Someone who doesn't hate Edward! :-D

As annoying as he is in battle, I think he's a great addition as far as the characters go. His personality is a good foil for Cecil's--they both have crappy lives, but Edward wants to sit around and whine about his. Kinda like Hamlet.

gee, hard choose here.
I don't really like most of the characters. (but I do like Rydia tho, not the rest)
my most hated character had to be Edward, I just didn't beleve that harps can charm a monster to death.

Edward. The battle with the Dark Elf excepted, he was useless, plain and simple. Just useless.

I voted for Tellah. His complete lack of MP and the rate at which he used all my nice ethers was baaaad. FuSoYa was kinda annoying too, but pretty good in battle... Cid was almost as bad as Tellah *shudders at the thought of that hair*

I actually liked Edward too - he was just so sweet and I loved his harp, kinda like Eiko using a flute for a weapon in IX.

I don't think it seems right to dismiss a character based on their growth potential, that was just to save extra programming. Anyway...

Kain, no doubt about it. He's definitely the weak spot of the party towards the end, he never gets any interesting weapons or armor (excpet for White, but that's because everyone gets something awesome on the moon) - he's pretty cookie in the story, even in J he's not very dynamic. "Oh, look at me, I love her but can't get her, I'll never amount to anything... I was evil, oh no, how could I do that?" If it weren't for his being scripted into a lot of the parts of the game that were cool and memorable, I think he'd have been just another Cid. His only redeming quality was that he looked cool (but not in battle).

I HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE EDWARD!! That crappy Bard! He had only one use.. Medicine! And that wasn't too good either. But Tellah had barely any MP otherwise he would be good Edge had a pathetic personality and seemed dumb in my opinion ( he ruined the name of the Ninja! He completely screwed it up! Ninjas are cool, like Shadow from FF6, but this dumb fool right here isn't.) Rosa was an annoying character i have one complaint about this poll.......Get Kain of this list cuz he's too cool to be hated thumbup.gif !

I voted for Edward, but I do have a few things to say (keep in mind that I played FF2us):
Cecil: Good attack, but no special techniques as a Dark Knight. What I really like is his transformation into a Paladin, who gets to use the Crystal Sword (4000+ damage to regular enemies!!!) and weak white magic (I get him to do things like Heal, rather than Cure or Cure2), and who has a TON of HP.
Kain: Very interesting character plotwise. However, doesn't change anything (except his levels and his alignment), and only has a 1500+ damage attack in the end with the white lance (I think it was?). Jump does come in handy occasionally, but I wish he had magic (then I would have an all-magic-using team at the end!).
Rydia: Can't hit anything as a child. Bad attack as an adult. Low defense and little HP both times. Good things: Awesome black magic and summoning, AND has enough MP to cast Meteo, Nuke, and Bahamut twice in a row.
Tellah: "The old geezer who knows all his spells but can't cast them." Too little MP, and later, HP as well (comparative to the rest of your party). Can't hit anything either. His usefulness lies in his spell repertoire, but that is unfortunately hindered by his only having 90 MP (which, unfortunately, is necessary for him to die from casting Meteo). But do I so wish he didn't die...
Edward: (1) How does he attack with a harp? (2) OK attack, OK defense, OK HP, but HIDES (coward!) when his HP is low. Gets very annoying in the Fabul siege. But you need his twinharp...
Rosa: Great character--aims with bows and arrows and learns all white magic (and uses it effectively too!). The only things I don't like about her are the fact that arrows get used up and that she acts like a "damsel in distress". She actually gets more HP than FuSoYa!
Yang: Kick wasn't really useful, but he had lots of HP (more than DkKnight Cecil) and had a strong attack, which could be made elemental depending on the claws you equipped. A good to great character.
Palom&Porom: Not too useful if they don't have MP, since they can't really hit anything. But Twin tends to be rather useful. Plus, if you bother to raise their levels enough, they learn all the white and black spells.
Cid: Peeps at enemies with binoculars. Attacks with wrenches that looks like hammers when swung. He seemed to have OK performance, but was not a character I wanted to keep.
Edge: Yes, he does make the ninja look bad (with his bad attitude and foolishness). But he makes quite a useful character. He does have ninja magic (which I usually don't use), dart (which I use against Zeromus, Behemoths, Wyvern, Ogopogo, and the last eye monster that casts count on your party), and sneak (which I used to get 70 ethers and 120 Artemis arrows).
FuSoYa: "The old geezer who knows all his spells and CAN cast them, but says he's you're uncle." Interesting character; he could actually hit more often than other bad-attack magic users could (but still missed significantly), but didn't have as much HP (starts lv50 at 1900) or MP (190 until lv71, when it starts rising) as he should have. If not, I would really like to keep him.
Golbez: It's just something to see that that brother you've been fighting all along is now fighting the evil force that controlled his mind. He'd make an excellent black wizard, and I'd actually rather give up Kain (whom I didn't find that useful) to have Golbez on my party. But his rump does get seared by Zeromus's Meteo...

Sorry if this is a long post, but these are my opinions on the various characters. While I don't really hate any of them that much, I'd have to say the most ineffective one in battle would be Edward.

Tellah just drove me up the wall, that miserable old fart had the crappiest max MP.

If you're gonna give me magic in a game, I need the equivalent to "Obviously Compensating For Something Man"'s special power "More Ammunition Than God" (Jail House Blues, a Bob and George sub-comic, reference). I need to be able to let fly with everything all the time, cause oh so often magic users are complete garbage if they can't.

Trying to kill things with Edward in your party is kind of like trying to climb a mountain with a 200 pound tumor growing out of your head. What a worthless little pansy. Notice, too, that HE was the one who did the "Damsel in Distress trip-and-fall" when you were trying to escape the oncoming attack at Fabul. Sometimes I think he was created as some sort of joke by Squaresoft. He reminds me of the Prince in Braveheart, but not quite as rugged and manly.

I despise Edward more than any other final fantasy. He drives me crazy by always crying about stuff. HE DRIVES ME NUTS!!!!!! I mean, come on!!!! His secondary ability is to hide. Spoony Barb.

Well I voted for Edward, in the end he just didn't have much to offer at all. He was neccecary tot he storyline and such but I just feel as if he wasn't important as a main character. I think that he should've come back rather than Edge. But hey, that's just me. tongue.gif

Good god, Edward is the biggest Pussy in any Squaresoft game I know. Even after his little dream sequence where Anna's ghost shows up and he has to beat a measly WaterHag? In my dream FF4, Edge and Yang sit in the background during adventures and joke the crap out of him until he turns around and says "I must say, what is the fuss?".. That's when Edge slaps him upside the head and says "Hey shutup you crybaby!".. which is proceeded by Edge and Yang laughing it up..

I notice a lot of people saying that they hate Edward and Tellah. Gameplay wise I'd have to agree with everyone because they flat out are well below just about any other character in terms of tiers. However, I think storyline wise they both played their parts rather well. For instance, Edward is supposed to be a pansy prince. Heck, he got chewed out by a child the first time we ever see him. So, it really wouldn't make sense if he's suddenly dropping mobs left and right with his harp. And Tellah is a powerful mage who is well past his prime, so I find his lessened stats and lack of MP justifiable. Gameplay-wise, I'd have to say one of these two are my least favorite.

Storyline-wise, I'd have to go with Dark Knight Cecil. I kind of agree with Cell that Cecil's self-pitying became a bit nerve racking as time went on, but I do acknowledge that it's all in the name of development. After all, if Cecil was a tough as nails Dark Knight who killed without remorse, then he would have no need to take up the sword of the Paladin. Still, from the getgo Cecil didn't seem to fit the role of the Dark Knight at all. I wish Square put his change of heart somewhere in the middle of the game rather than right at the beginning.

Thank you, Xerlic. All of this Edward-bashing was starting to make me cry. Edward is my favorite character in that game. So much so that I'm playing him on a Final Fantasy MUX. May his spooniness reign supreme for all time. smile.gif

...I swear, we should start a support group for the teeny little minority of people who don't hate him. "Hello, my name's Syndarr, and I love Edward." "Hi, Syndarr!" And we could have cocoa and donuts, and lo, it would be good. tongue.gif

For me, Tellah was just another can't-fight usually-not-too-useful magic user, like young Rydia. I only thought higher of him when he gained all those spells on Mt. Ordeals, and I was fascinated by meteo. Amazingly, even though he is so dissimilar to General Leo of FFVI,

I have a similar feeling about both of them dying. After Tellah's death, I so wished I could still have him as a character, just wanting higher max MP. I also decided to put in a parallel character in the RPG I'm making.

I think the main idea behind Edward was for him to be a mostly non-controllable character within the main plot. When you do control him it's only very temporary, and is just to give you an idea of how he's not much of a fighter.

Every character in final fantasy IV is not fit to live, I guess thats why i find killing them with each other more fun than killing the enemy which brings me to my last point I think my Edward has killed my allies more times than the enemy has killed him.

This has been published by a very strange ??? extreme caution is wise.

[Edward is dumb and ugly if you didnt notice so please kill him a few times for me].

The topic is Least Fav Character, so I remarked in a funny way that Edward was my Least Fav 'cause he's a pussy. When it comes to playing his role in the game, he's got it to perfection.

But when it comes to being a "Crybaby, Weak, Wimpy, Good for Nothing but Telling Tales Whilst Playing a Fruity Harp" Type, he fits the role better than any other character trying to fit their respectable role in the game by a long shot.

Wonder why Edward has damn many votes eh? rolleyes.gif hehe, anyway, im one with the majority here.. Edward (though he DID have his occasional handiness) was rather, eh, not needed? ofcourse you needed him to progress through the story that little bit more, but aside from that, he didnt overly help the party in any regard.. heh.. lets summarize shall we?

He can Heal, YAY! (too bad it eats away your potions)
He can Hide, YAY! (it'll be even more funny when he is the last person alive)
He can Sing, YAY! (how about that success rate eh? sleep.gif)

So, basically.. he is USELESS!! biggrin.gif laugh.gif (all IMO ofcourse)
