This topic is being prompted by the thought prompted by the CoN Facebook Page:

"Have you ever met someone and then found out later that he or she used CoN without your prompting? Probably not as cool as when it happens to CoN staff, but we'd still be happy to hear about it, here or at the forums."

My roommate has been playing through my copy of FFT recently, and I was advising him last week on several sidequests that he should do. Tonight, I find out that he's been saving the Deep Dungeon for last, but that he found a website that has maps of all the Deep Dungeon treasures. "Oh, and there's someone there named Neal, too, spelled your way!" He had no idea.

Anybody else had CoN experiences like that?

Hey, put the cellphone down for a while
In the night there is something wild
Can you hear it breathing?
And hey, put the laptop down for a while
In the night there is something wild
I feel it, it's leaving me

While not as surreal as yours might have been, mine was fairly humorous. My Fiance and I had just started dating, and she asks to use my computer for something, so being the cool dude I am, I agree, under the condition that I monitor to make sure she isn't doing something wacky to it. I watch her start to type the address in the bar, and laugh as it pops up, complete, and she just turns to me and says, "Really?"

That is when I knew we were gonna work out, I'm still tryin to get her to join the forums and not just lurk, but she is painfully shy.

This is a webcomic and gaming blog where I rant about nonsense. Enjoy.

I was a soldier, now I just play one in video games.

Since I'm so connected to CoN - I mean, it's pretty much the only thing I'm actually somewhat known for - I don't really get as many aha! moments as some people might. People tend to either know I'm involved when they meet me, or they're not interested in the series and therefore don't care.

I've had a couple co-workers over the years who have mentioned the site to me when they find out I'm a fan, or I bring it up myself when I find out that the acquaintance is a FF fan. Either way, the stories are nowhere near as interesting as Neal's; story of my life. smile.gif

Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? Or perhaps buying a really good looking shirt?

I was once talking about FF with one of my fraternity brothers over FB chat, and he's like "You should check out this site that has lots of awesome info about FFVI (which is a favorite of both of ours)."

I was quite excited that I wasn't the only one I knew that used the CoN. I don't believe he's a member of the forum, though...

Similar case to Narratorway here. Three years ago I bought a print at a gaming convention from CoN's Hikaroo without realizing it. No awesome stories like Neal, though.

I don't think I ever heard about that, that's pretty cool too.

I think Neal has the most "aww" story here. I haven't met any CoNners IRL yet, unfortunately. Well, I have met some CoN users, but no forumgoers.

And I've only met one troper in real life either. I must be hanging out with the wrong circles.
